Wasn't a Stranger Things game in the works? Would have been my first game from them :/

Sad to hear so many people lost their job :(

Man, I know there was Telltale fatigue, but still seems extremely out-of-the-blue.

Must've been some serious mismanagement to cause this.

Hope the staff land on their feet. Whatever the story was behind this, I'm sure It's no fault with the vast majority of them. Hopefully we get a Shreier look behind the scenes one day.

God damn, that's awful. I was never really into their games but I do hope that each and everyone who was laid off can find work elsewhere, such as at Santa Monica Studio. Good on them for being rather supportive of the whole thing

Well this is a lightning bolt. Can't wait for someone (Schreier?) doing a detailed piece on how this came about.

I think it's from expanding too fast and releasing a lot of games which didn't sell as well as they'd expected.

I remember many years ago someone from there saying their development budget tended to be around $100 thousand per game. I wonder how rapidly that has increased.

so how are 25 people going to make all those games they announced?

Most will probably be cancelled and - assuming the company stays afloat - they'll work on smaller projects one at a time.

There needs to be some naming and shaming of the top brass for this. Hopefully everyone else can land on their feet.

They've been working with some of the intellectual property, so this this is surprising.

Maybe the sheer amount of projects was about survival isn't of thriving.

WOW! Very upset with this news

I know they got a lot of flack for their engine and gameplay but I really enjoyed their games.

Yo, WHAT? This is insane. Sending positive energy to the employees affected by this move, I truly feel for them. What a crazy ride from TWD season 1's massive success to this point in time.

On another note...I can't even begin to explain how sad I am that The Wolf Among Us season 2 will not happen. This just sucks all around. Fuck.

Absurd. I had heard it was rough there for a while (and they had several waves of layoffs) but didn't know things were that bad. Crazy.

They'll get bought out.

No way they don't.

I can see anyone of Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon, Activision and Apple buying them.

Even if MS would be to pick up a good amount of the laid off developers, they wouldn't be able to start work on Wolf 2, right? They would need to take in the whole company. I wouldn't mind that at all. I am gonna miss their games for sure.

I wonder what will happen to their catalog. Licensing deals are often not transferable, and are simply canceled if the licensee goes under. We might see large parts of their catalog get pulled down from stores and disappear into licensing limbo soon.

That's unexpected. Can't say I'm surprised, though. Their games haven't sold very well for many years now and the quality dropped signifantly.

I'm devastated by this.

My thoughts are with the staff, and I hope other companies can pick them up on the double.

How can this happen... they put out success after success...

These games are so dear to me. I can't believe I won't get another Telltale game after TWD4. Wolf Among Us 2, gone. I can't believe this. Just how...

were they spread too thin? too much money spent on licensing projects? jesus christ they finally just built a new engine, which took who knows how long and with what R&D costs and now they have to shutter the whole operation
I mean, 400 people at the standard $10,000 a month cost to employ (along with benefits, office space, equipment, etc) a game developer is $4 million a month, or $48 million a year, so you need to be bringing a lot of money in the door to keep existing.

If your sales start going downhill as much as theirs did, where games seemed to be selling in the six figure range, that's a pretty spot. Even 500,000 * $25 is only $12.5 million, and you certainly don't get to keep all that given taxes and 30% platform cuts.

God. This fucking sucks.

How many times have I thought of an IP and immediately thought, that would be a great Telltale series.

Ending like this is so bizarre and upsetting. This cuts deep.

I was always wondering how the hell they are managing to be 300+ person studio. Their games were popular but not enough for studio that was that big. And i guess that i got answer now.

DAMN, Feels like not so long ago everyone was complaining about their messy engine and there were people saying that they were not going to change because they were making tons of coins.

Sad tbqh because while I skipped most of their work after TWAU I did enjoyed the Batman games for their take on Bruce and Gotham.

I can't believe Wolf 2 is gone now to be honest, that has been such a dream game for me. Damn.

But of course the layoffs are more important. I hope they all land of their feet.

If true, this is an unfortunate and ignominious end for the company that began as castoffs from LucasArts and brought Sam & Max back to gaming. I have to think there was a lot of mismanagement along the way.

How the fuck do you go from having hundreds of devs to bankruptcy? Couldn't something be done before all this?

Glad to see other developers coming in to help the ones bat got laid off.

Disappointing to see because I enjoyed their games and was looking forward to their Stranger Things title.

This is really sad. I know these games arent for everyone but I always liked them. Even the clunky engine had its charm.

I have all the games on Xbox minus TWD s4 and Batman s2. I kinda wanna buy them all on ps4 too before they get pulled. Just bc they have simple, just play the game and get the trophies.

So since they seem to have already let almost everyone go, does that rule out that another studio will buy them out? Was kinda hoping Microsoft or someone would. But that's out of the question since they already let everyone go?
