I know people aren't going to play big games on a watch but how powerful are these things?
What can it run? lol

Does anyone know of any good brand covers/protectors for the 44mm on Amazon or anywhere else with good quality?

I don't get why so many reviews are lumping the Series 0 and 1 together when discussing upgrading. Series 1 has the same internals as Series 2, just with a not-as-waterproof body and not-as-bright screen.

I know people aren't going to play big games on a watch but how powerful are these things?

They're not for games or big apps. Apple Watches work well for:
1. Notifications/quick-messaging/email/calling/walkie-talkie
2. Music/audiobook/podcast playback (Bluetooth headphones)
3. Exercise/fitness routines/tracking
4. Siri access
5. Apple Pay/Tickets/Passes/Wallet/NFC
6. Assorted utilities (time, weather, walking directions, timers, calendar, media/home control)
7. Location-based real-world services (Uber pickup, Yelp lookup)

WTH, the stainless steel S3 seems to have been taken off the Apple Give Back program.

Maybe this is really silly, but I'm kind of considering trading in / selling my S3 stainless which I paid $960 CAD for a few months ago, for a S4 sport. The S4 is the first Apple Watch that actually looks good to me in aluminum.

Man, I'm astonished they let you open links on this thing. Looking like I will finally update from series0 launch model. I'm very bummed though, I've worn the brown modern buckle since it came out and they no longer offer it. I really want to get my hands on a new one. They were listing it still on their site before the new models came out.
I'm pretty sure as long as you get the equivalent size you should be able to keep using the same straps. Unless the Series 0 uses a totally different size for its straps or something.

Also, why is it called Series 0? Why did they decide to call the first revision the Series 1 instead or Series 2?

They called the first revision Series 2, but they released a Series2 without GPS on the same day and named it Series 1.

Interesting. They could have easily come up with another name though. Like Series 2B or call the one with GPS the Series 2G or whatever. Haha

That said, I wish Virgin Mobile offered a GPS plan for Watch owners. I'd totally get a LTE version. I'll just have to get the plain GPS version. Anyone know what the range of the BlueTooth is for the Watch? Like how far apart the two devices can be before the Watch loses connection?

Also, I really need to go and check these out in person. I never really had an interest in the Watch until this year so I never really bothered to look at them when I would go to the Apple Store. I don't even know which size I'd get which is why I haven't bothered to order online yet. I need to look at them in person.

Thanks. I thought it would be too big for me but maybe not! Not planning on getting one until Christmas so I'll make sure to get to the store and try them out properly.

Shame there's no option for aluminium with the coating that the SS has - I actually prefer the matte look. :(

I have to say, the new design for the Apple Watch makes the aluminum models look a lot better. They now seem like a luxury matte option, competitive with the stainless steel for dress, rather than the plastic-y fitness option.

Got out of a store with the 40mm space grey aluminum WiFi model (upgraded from a Series 0) and this thing is *so* nice. Much bigger and better display, *far* more responsive and quick with basically everything.

But I really really want Dark Sky to add the new complications to their app. I lived and died by the Dark Sky complication on my modular face before, and I'd really love to see them offer a bigger updated version for the Infograph complications/faces. (Also, while the Infograph faces are nice, I don't actually *need* this much information - just the date, time, battery life, Activity, and basic temperature/precipitation info are all I really need)

Definitely gonna try to get myself in the habit of using Siri more often for dictation.

Bummer. My Watch arrives today from Best Buy, but my wife's slowly morphed from "arriving on September 21" to "shipping on September 21" to "we'll let you know when it ships." :(

So not sure what's going on with my T-Mobile order. Originally I ordered from Apple and they gave 10/12-10/19. T-Mobile said Spet 21 (liars). So I ordered and got the confirmation email saying 10/3-10/12. Ok. So this morning I get texts saying that my Watch has been paired with DIGITS.. and that my Watch has been added to my account. And my card was charged. I go to my order summary page and it still says 10/3-10/12. I go to the details page and it says backordered... so I genuinely have no idea when I'm getting this. It could be within the next couple of days. Could be in the next two weeks. Could be longer. ugh.

Nike and Hermes both come with faces specific to them. outside of that the rest of watchOS is identical to every other watch.

"OMG it only gets 18 hours of battery!?!?"

"How do that not have always-on yet!?!"

you see the problem here, right?

on top of that I think there is potential blowback to apple for having always-on when it comes to complications. right now the complications only run/execute when you wake the watch. having "always-on" would mean the complication(s) would be always running to update visually.

for an actual always on, they'd need a minimal face and disallow complications on it (which they already do on some faces). I'm not saying it's impossible.. but it would probably not be what people expect.. for it to not be disastrous PR.. I feel it would really need to be limited to a specific "always-on" face.

Just copy android wear. No animation, low brightness, mono, update screen eg once a minute.

I'd be fine with disabling complications or defaulting to a standard face - switching to the live face when I raise my wrist

Unavailable in almost every store and ships 10/19 from Apple.

Biggest Watch launch ever by quite a way.

Man it is quite lame the ECG is not available on launch and is "coming on a later date". Apple needs to stop hyping features they can't ship on time, this happened with portrait mode on phones and a ton of other things.

Other than that the watch is amazing due to bigger screen and it is very snappy to use, I am quite loving it coming from my series 3.

I mean yeah... but in the case of portrait mode, it was in 10.1 beta 1.

my guess is ECG will be in a 5.1 beta at some point.

as for "they shouldn't hype it".. I mean it is a MASSIVE selling point of the device. Not hyping it results in there not being a massive upgrade between 3 and 4 aside from the screen. I'd argue the ECG (and fall detection, and a-fib) are bigger selling points than the screen.

Fuck, I HATE FedEx. Verizon is absolutely stupid for using them to deliver my watch. The morons originally approved sending mine to a facility nearby for me to pick it up and last-minute denied the request after two customer service reps said it was approved. Biggest bunch of morons ever.

the new Watch feels so good on my wrist, I'm glad I opted for aluminium model instead because this thing is so light especially with the sport loop. It's the perfect combo for runners

Walked out of the Apple Store with the Series 4! Ended up going with the Gold Stainless Steel at 40mm. It's so much faster than my Series 0, it's amazing.

nice... really should have gone to an apple store to try them on first. I've had the 42mm since launch.. was wondering with the larger screen space if it was worth going down to the 40mm.

They said it will be available this year so that only leaves 2 month wait max too, not bad. If they delay it further, I'll be supremely pissed.

Yeah, I canceled my Apple order since they had a mid-October estimate and ordered one at Best Buy for in-store pickup today. I still don't have a confirmation that I can go in yet and there's no indication how long it will take.

Did you get the Milanese loop? Are you a guy? If so, how does it look? I pulled trigger on SS Gold and I'm worried it's a bit too flashy but it looked soooo fucking dope in all the videos I saw. I didn't order until yesterday so not getting it for a month probably but would like some feedback on how it looks, I'll mainly be wearing it w/ Navy suits.

I called them earlier and they think that Apple just shipped them cellular models, which is really frustrating. I may have to wait another week. Not too big a deal, but still. Ugh.

If only Fitbit products could come with an Apple watch type design :(, big into Fitbit products and fitbit's been my only fitness tracking product. Wish Fitbit worked with apple to let apple watches and the data in them sync with Fitbit's app

I've had the 38 mm, but I tried on both sizes for the Series 4. I determined that I wanted to keep the possibility of using my watch band from my Series 0 on my Series 4. I'm a guy, and my wrists are small so I thought the 40mm still looked good on my wrist.

And I got them Stone sport band. I saw the Milanese loop on display, and I thought that it looked really good, but I wasn't ready to drop that money all at once. Maybe later.

I got hyped as well but then realized I don't really use my Apple Watch S3 for much except health tracking (still the sameish weight as I was before I got it) and notifications.

3rd party apps are pretty much terrible and super damn slow most of the time. Today I tried pressing on the 1Password app to look up something and it took way too long to load up and thats when I realized "oh yeah I could've just whipped my phone out faster than this". Or when I try to use Citymapper to get home from work. These small little things should be blazing fast to open. Has it changed on the S4?

(also flicking the wrist to see the time while driving is completely annoying and unsafe)

I've only been using it for a few hours, but I already love it.

It's bigger, but not overly so. And I love how the screen reaches out to the far edges. It gives everything a more open, rounded off look.

And of course, it's a lot more responsive and faster. I hated how my S2 was slow, but this one is really quick.

I just want my damn screen protectors already. :/

The addition of serious health features like ECG and fall detection further lay the groundwork for a what the device — and category — will become, going forward.

That's a pretty important statement, that the non-fitness wellness features will be what expands the smartwatch category. I won't be shocked if it turns out to be the truth, though. I could see Apple Watch wipe out the market for purpose-built medical emergency jewelry.

Contradictory to how you're putting it sure. I expect more from Apple and their designers/devs, sorry but not sorry. I expect form options I like and the functionality to react to that form. Why again is this so damn hard?

Also, you should win things by watching.

Series 4 44mm on small wrists is funny. Apple Watch going to replace the iPhone SE in size.

I really don't get why people want some giant watch on their tiny wrist. It just looks... tacky. Where did this style choice originate from? I want someone to blame for this.

Do complications need to be updated for Infographic? I only see the stock Apple ones + Shazam, dozens are missing.

It's all about proportions really. I was concerned about the size of the 44mm after seeing some of the early comparison images that people were posting online from the Apple event where it looked giant, as some of the straps I am interested in only seem to be available for the larger watch.
I tried on a 44mm Stainless Steel with Milanese Loop today and thought I had mistakenly put on the smaller 40mm watch. Didn't look big on my wrist at all.

I previously bought a 42mm Series 2 Nike watch and thought it was far too bulky. I was constantly aware of it being on my wrist, and since I also had issues with it not properly detecting heart rate or counting standing / steps / exercise, I returned it.
The Series 4 I tried on felt like a normal watch.
Even though it's less than a millimeter thinner on paper, the larger, flatter, and rounder design makes a huge difference to how it looks and feels on the wrist. I think the Milanese Loop may be the thinnest band for the watch too, which also contributed to that.

My main concern is that the customization still seems very limited with the watch, and I think a lot of the faces are ugly - either due to the design of the faces/complications, or the amount of color used in them; like the new faces for the S4 watches.
I think the new watch faces would greatly benefit from a mode where you can set a single accent color. Unfortunately the only option for that right now is to make the entire watch (including apps) grayscale via the accessibility options.
And I wish those Hermès faces were available for the regular watches without the branding. It's just weird that there's no "dress watch" face from Apple which uses a rectangular layout that matches the watch, rather than circular.
I understand why Apple do it, but there just seem like so many possibilities for a watch like this.
