I think the Cloud Save system is working as intended for the most part. It's just really slow when it coms to backing up old saves that haven't been in use or that could be bugged. They're waiting to be uploaded but I think the system has no reason to force them through quickly for some reason.

However...

Any game you currently running though gets uploaded automatically. No questions asked as they should. If you clear out the "waiting" message you can manually upload the older saves right away. The issue is waiting for the system to upload older and non-in use saves.

If you're on wifi, make sure you're connected to the 5GHz network. It gives a lot of trouble on standard 2.4GHz.
This. It also seems like the Switch wifi parts aren't givne as much power as they should be. At least that's what I recall reading around launch. Yeah using the 5ghz network is best since many things don't use it by default. That and have your Switch closer rather then farther away from the router.

I also think too that making sure one's router is a recent one is a good bet as well. I remember around launch when we were talking about this a LOT of people had very old routers. They were still working fine but they should have been updated a while ago. I remember updating mine at the time overall just got better coverage then what I had before.

I... like it? I'm not unhappy at all. It's cheap, my Zelda save is safe and the NES games are fun. Could it be better? Sure. Would I expect better at 20/year or even as low as 5/year if in a family plan? Nope. No way. Not in 2018. People are complaining now but there's a timeline where Nintendo actually charged a Nintendo price for it and everyone would say it would be worth it if it was as low as 20 per year.
Is a standard voice chat solution too much to ask?

Fyi, I'm sure someone picked up on it. My save back up didn't get all games. Not the unsupported games but the supported games. I have automatic back up on but a few games are sitting, 'waiting to back up...'

I'm connected to the internet. I have to manually turn off automatic back up, force a back up and restart automatic back up.

Maybe it started and I moved my switch from wifi. But I initiated switch online at home, played some Zelda 1 and went to sleep at 12am. Went to work the next day at 7am. I assume it does back up while in sleep mode.

Either way, just check on your back ups.

I'm having a similar issue. I can force a backup if I turn off auto, but with auto on it just says "waiting" for everything. It seems like if I play one of the "waiting" games it proceeds to then back it up, and I did a full power-cycle of the system and then it backed up the first game in the list then resumed the "waiting" for the rest, so I feel like there's some weird shit goin on here. I'm gonna leave a few that I don't care a ton about in the waiting state I think just to see if they ever start.

A load of mine say "Backup pending" and it only actually does it if I force it to.

Have they changed the way P2P online games works to some other communication method? I played Rocket League now, and I don't remember it ever felt so smooth online as it did today.

Question: Is the credit card on the family account accessible to all accounts in the family group for eShop purchases? Or is it only for the subscription renewal?

Sorry if this has been brought up, but is there a way to get rid of the "Press + for Start" etc reminders at the bottom of the screen on NES games?

I think the news and shop could have been merged and redone a bit to make it like a feeling of something substantial like your console now is apart of something.

It just seems so lackluster...really launched with a whimper.

At the moment, it only backs-up the recent games you're playing. Everything you're not playing will stay pending, unless you cancel or manually upload.

So you either have to start each game or upload each one.

Had a really fun lobby tonight on Party Mode in ARMS. There were like 8 people in the chat. We all decided at one point to be Helix.
It was my first ever voice chat experience (no Xbox or PS4), and it was surprisingly fun. I'm pleasantly surprised with NSO so far.

The 'free' NES titles are a bad joke. At the VERY least, it ought to contain every title on NES Mini at minimum, and really SNES Mini, and the hypothetical N64 Mini to be somewhat proper of an offering — 20 games per console, 60 games.

Nintendo's stinginess with their back catalog here is absurd.

Im quite liking the virtual nes app. Great pick up and play games in there like mario and double dragon.

I think eventually we should see apps for snes, N64, GC, Wii, GB, GBA. DS not sure because of the double screen touch setup.

Whats more interesting if we will see other consoles from Sega and Neo Geo. I think eventually they will charge an extra fee per console. I could probably just subscribe to all the virtual consoles and only play those and buy an occasional new release. I mean you could have thousands of Retro games at your disposal and just keep it to a subscription for a very long time.

I think much of the vitriol has evaporated once people actually started using it. Yes, it's still not great, but it's functional at the very least.
(also wrote on Twitter to him directly, the guy replied competitors use AWS and Azure, which I'm not sure it makes 100% sense)

His article seems to suggest Sony and MS use dedicated servers while Nintendo relies on P2P (and hence it's cheaper).

As far as I know very few (if any) stuff in the console space have dedicated servers... am I utterly wrong?!

I don't think we'll see other non Nintendo consoles. Or if we do they'll be like the Mega Drive Collection.

And I think that's fine! Just wish Nintendo would release SNES, N64, GBA Etc. Games more quickly.

China
Seems China's Switch owners are sort of screwed with Nintendo's Online Service.

Reports have come back about people living in mainland China not being able to access the online service after purchasing it due to the google backend.

So, unless you have a VPN router with blazing fast net speeds, you might be screwed.

We don't know how this will affect games that worked with no problem while in China, like Mario Kart, Tennis, and Splatoon 2, but we know google backended games like Rocket League and Doom don't work period here.

Anyone think all of Nintendo's games will be backended by google, such as Smash?

Has there a first party game that has had Google backend?

Where's Metroid? I thought it was one of the Launch NES titles for the service? Also it's criminal that Mario 2 isn't available at launch. Oh, another thing, how do they not have touchscreen support when in the NES app?

I haven't kept up on this thread since I've been super busy, but I just tried out the Zelda 1 and am I crazy or are the colors all wrong? The game looks completely washed out compared to playing the game on my Famicom or my Analogue NT. This isn't really at all what the game is supposed to look like...

Metroid is coming in November.

It will be cool to have access to the superior Famicom Disk System version, through the JP version of the NES app. :)

And when they release Mario 2, I hope that they also release Doki Doki Panic in Japan.

The general press is starting to call out Nintendo in their shitty online offering. It's a very good news, and I hope that disappointing results and online backlash will serve as a wake-up call for Nintendo.

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2...-widely-derided-online-offering/#.W6T4m-2xU0O

And again, much of these articles are based on pre-launch backlash. From what people have used it imply, it isn't as bad as what was initially feared, but it still needs a lot of work.

I have the service. It absolutely sucks. It did before, except it was free. Now, if I want to continue playing games I purchased, I have to pay, but it didn't get any better.
Well, people don't seem to hate the current voice chat setup anymore since, especially since for games like MK8 DX its easy to set up and you can talk to randoms, and NES app has gotten good reception. Basically, it's still not great, but it's more adequate than what was initially speculated.

Most people hate the current voice setup. the app is and always has been unacceptable. The best thing about NSO is the nes games but unless someone is playing online already or wants to, I wouldn't recommend it.

Let me boot my original up and take a look. Just from the Switch though, it didn't appear bad or off color at all for me. Did you use the crt filter?

The app is... fine. On-console chat should be an option but as it is I don't mind it. I'd say there's even some benefits; managing chat volume without a specialized headset and muting people without messing with the game by bringing up a UI is nice.

Mixing audio into a headset is a problem if you want that, of course. I personally use a USB headset for the Switch with earbuds underneath (with an in-line mic) plugged into my phone. I don't mind it but most would find it incredibly cumbersome.

I have no problem with the app existing because as you said it's fine but until it's optional and built into the console, I will continue to have issues with how voice chat is handled on the switch.

No, people who have used it said its actually better than they thought, but still needs an option to do it through the console like you said. You don't have to hate something to think it should be better.

Hate is the wrong word and I shouldn't have used it, my apologies but I don't think it's well received, It's just what we are forced to use.
