It was the most edgy one so it is most's favorite game.
it has the most boring world design, and a small number at that, and each world takes like 30 minutes to finish, some shorter, I kinda hope they released it on PS2 instead as was originally planned. Terra and Ventus were unbearable too. Game becomes just press Triangle later in the game or R1 to focus.
The thing it has going for it is the music, the story, and Aqua(Which I hope becomes an assist trophy if Sora made it in)
Is it verg's new stuff that makes us all think Steve will be playable? Or just the trend of the moment?
Blows my mind that someone still thinks Sakurai wouldn't be able to make any character fit in Smash after all these years.

I don't care for Sora's inclusion, but if that's what it takes to get this music in, so be it.
Not like having additional, optional characters is going to kill anyone.
I'm not exactly jumping at the chance for him but I don't get the sheer revulsion some people have at the idea of Steve. He's the main character of one of the most popular games in the recent memory. It's done well on Nintendo consoles. I'd say it's had more then enough impact to call it more then a flavor of the month.
I don't know I'm not crazy about the idea but I wasn't crazy about Ridley either. I'll just move on and hope Sora is in the game.

I mean, sure, Sakurai could make him "fit", but no matter what, Steve would by far be the biggest eyesore in the roster. If Sakurai wants to be accurate to his original appearance, which is one of his modus operandi, Steve's gonna be the same six block golem that looks ugly as is in Minecraft, let alone put into a game with character models as nice as Smash. Even worse would be if they tried to go for a Telltale Minecraft Story Mode look. Eugh.
And that's not even touching the horrifically simple animations of Minecraft characters in the base game. It's like placeholder animations that they never bothered to replace. Steve would either have to be completely overhauled to not look out of place amongst the rest of the cast, at which point he'd basically not represent Minecraft, or he'd have to stay pretty close to the original portrayal, at which point he's six blocks with permanent placeholder animations.
It's not that I don't trust Sakurai to make him fit, it's that I don't think a way to make the character fit visually amongst the Smash roster AND stay true to Minecraft exists. At all.
Squeenix tax tho... You'll get these two and love it.
Also throw me in Team False Prophet, AKA Quashed Box Theory.
Vergeben said that some of his Smash related sources claimed Minecraft is in as a stage/AT, but that his non-Smash related ones claimed there might be a playable character, which lines up with what the Samurai Spirits leaker claimed - the both of whom have conversed privately and deduced that they both have somewhat similar sources. Vergeben's comments about the truth possibly being somewhere in between the lines sounds kinda like a thinly veiled attempt to cover all bases.
Said leaker also said they only have theories on who the Square Enix rep might be, no one wants to give a hard name on who it is because jobs would be in danger if it was found out. That kind of comment makes it sound like it's way bigger than Geno, so people are back to discussing Sora again, especially after a deleted Hashimoto tweet responding to a fan asking for support - although it could also be a DQ rep.

I can see Steve in Smash, I've kinda grown to like the weird/basicness of his model and can see him having some Xbox-centric skins (Master Chief etc.). A character that can place blocks around the stage could be real cool too, maybe of varying strength depending on how many items/projectiles you've "mined" beforehand..

4 months? the game comes out at the beginning of december and we're going to know everyone before launch.
We'll most likely know in less than two months if they don't want early copy leaks.

Vergeben's non-Smash info has almost always been consistently wrong. He makes an important distinction on where he heard what Minecraft details from, but all the times he's attempted to leak info from non-Smash games it's always been heavily misinformed to some degree. Raditz and Zarbon in FighterZ DLC? Wrong. Switch version of SCVI with Fire Emblem characters? Wrong. SFV Season 3? Absolutely 110% super wrong infinity turbo + 1. The one time he can claim he was correct on anything was Injustice 2.
The only reason we've trusted him this time is because his Smash-related info has actually been on point. Even the mention of a Square Enix rep came from someone he claims to has a habit of "never being wrong". Any information about Minecraft that comes to him from non-Smash related sources isn't really worth entertaining, at least imo.

I believe Minecraft is in Smash but not in the form of a character. The stage count of 103 has been finalised (whatever corocoro may lead you to believe - I believe it is a typo) and it would make no sense to have Steve in without a home stage. Instead, think Monster Hunter representation. Ancestral steppe is an area we know of in the game that is not a selectable stage. As we all know - the reason is that it's part of Spirits mode. My conjecture is that minecraft will he represented as a world or at least a boss area in the new Spirits mode - and mobs will feature as enemies. At best, Steve is in the game as an assist trophy. It will probably be a big reveal in the same potential smash direct where I assume Spitits mode will be the main focus.
About the square enix rep? I believe it is DLC. I would not be surprised if Sakurai has already started considering DLC content - and it would be a good idea, in any case, to reach out to 3rd parties and start negotiations early with regard to their characters.

I've already accepted Incineroar being included over Decidueye, but Steve getting in before Banjo & Kazooie would be heartbreaking for me. I don't want to be selfish considering I already got Ridley and K. Rool this game, but if two of my other most-wanted characters get shafted like that right in a row i'll be pretty salty.
On an unrelated note, I just had the weirdest fcking dream. I dreamt that I was in some sort of stadium where they were streaming the final smash direct, and the new characters were Mr Game and Watch 2 who used attacks from different game and watch titles, and Andy from Advance Wars riding a tank. Could this be a platonic leak???

I look at as if it may make Banjo more likely as DLC if Sakurai wants it. If they'll work with MS to use Minecraft, then whats the problem for negotiating their other IP's? I have no problem for Steve, but for those who want B&K, just see it as a compromise to raise their chances.
I like this way of thinking, but I'm afraid the backlash will be grand regardless if Steve makes it in the base game and there is some time between that and a possible Banjo DLC release. Because fans are quick to jump the gun.

Sign me up in "just two" team. This is gonna be the most satisfying crow serving in ERA's history so far.
The thing about Steve is that he is one of the few characters that I actively don't want to see in Smash. Minecraft definitely deserves recognition in Smash (even before BK, as much as I want them) but I really don't think a playable character is necessary. At most, I think we should get:
- A stage
- Creeper as an Assist Trophy
- An area in Spirits Mode (if it's an Adventure Mode or something similar)
- A bunch of trophies (mostly of enemies from that potential Spirits Mode area)
Even if you're right, what's satisfying about it? Do you want less characters?

The only problem with Suzuho is that she's too good. You would need separate movesets for all of her big costumesWow. Reading the previous pages of the thread and there was a lot of negativity and hostility because of Steve from Minecraft.
Perhaps we should go back to discussing a character that the whole thread likes.

I can't really think of any out there characters not covered by rumors. Incineroar, Ken, a Square character (Sora), a Namco character (Goku). Who else is there?
