People's jobs are on the line for the SE Rep?

What lol
Square and the higher ranks' protectiveness of their brand is second only to (fittingly enough) Disney. They're ultra-draconian about their properties. Cloud actually did leak before his reveal, but no one came out and said it publicly, likely because they were too scared to be caught doing so and compromising sources.

Wait did that actually happen?

I wish it were Sora & Banjo with Steve AT and Minecraft stage. It would be spectacular.

Sora & Steve would be great as well, hell Sora alone would be immense.

I still stand by Kingdom Hearts collection switch announcement followed by Sora in Smash to end a direct.

So SE has ninjas as well. Pretty cool.

Even for small characters like Geno.

eh, I could honestly buy a Wii Safety Guy AT. yeah, he's kind of a dumb meme, but Sakurai's put in a number of stupid but fun ATs this go-round, with shit like the guy who drives you off the stage in a bus and Alolan Exeggutor, and folks like Arcade Rabbit and Nicki show that they're willing to make well-known picks beyond character-centric franchises. he'd fit perfectly imo
Black Shadow is one of those villainous characters from F-Zero
why does he have cloven hooves

There's a rumor on Smashboards that's getting the whole community in a tizzy.

https://smashboards.com/threads/heres-everything.458565/

Here's the list of new stuff.

Vergeben elaborated on his Minecraft info after this rumor came to light and continues to suggest he's been told there is Minecraft content, but doesn't definitively say what it is exactly.
I'll be back with proof later on. Bye for now.

Why would this send anyone in a tizzy? It's just another baseless text wishlist.

I think sora over geno now, it was gamexplain being so sure. That made me think him butveven though geno after Ridley and k rool seems obvious and in fact I think he will be dlc eventually

But I could see sakurai going to square for a second rep, them suggesting sora, and him grabbing it

I think Disney would be easily ok with it

Sakurai probs thought "sora is lit as fuck"

don't give me that, you know exactly what i mean.

zelda's design was terrible but at least it had a face, steve just has a 40p canvas

don't tell me steve would like anything close to reasonable next to the chipper new zelda and zany k. rool
Isn't that sort of the point? He's drastically different from anyone else in Smash. He'd probably stick out real well and visually would look different from the rest like G&W did when he debuted in Melee. Regardless of all this, I have no care if Steve gets in or doesn't. I was satisfied with the roster when it was confirmed everyone was coming. I have zero care for Ridley, Rool, Daisy, or Chrom but cool for their fans. Inkling, the Belmonts, DS, and Izzy are nice cherries on top.

WOKE

Why do you think that?
I imagine she was considered for Smash 4 DLC for the spot Corrin got. Being added in to advertise a new or upcoming game as it had all the ingredients to be considered.

Her game came out at the same time Sakurai was drafting the project plan for Smash (in the West) after a huge marketing campaign for the game. (December 2015)

Sakurai got that robot with the toy rifle and so far none of the characters we've gotten would've needed a rifle like that so maybe it was for Elma and her Skell.

While her game didn't sell that well I don't think it would matter that much as Xenoblade is already on the roster (Shulk) and it should be easier to make a case to add in a new character if they're from a franchise that's already in Smash and has enough significance in their game which Elma definitely has. This is further evidenced by Ike being in Brawl despite his game also bombing on release. Monolith seems to have an attachment to Elma so they probably would've recommended her if Sakurai asked for a Xenoblade character.

I imagine the reason why she wasn't announced yet is because she has a stage and she'll be announced in the Smash Direct along side a Xenoblade X stage and the final stage blowout.

The assist trophy is hilarious

Klaptrap
Rabbids
Solaire of Astora
Shantae
Travis Touchdown
Wii Remote Safety Instructor
Captain Rainbow

yeah not happening
Captain Rainbow was basically made for a Smash AT position, I wouldn't mind his addition.

Rabbids would suck... because Rabbid Peach must be playable DLC.

I still can't get over the "printed in October" part.

Ike's Black Knight color is still in the game. Historically that means he's deconfirmed.

Not quite. Even with those colors he barely looks anything like the Black Knight. We've had Mario with Wario colors even after Wario made it in and Fox still has his Wolf colors from the last game. It's not really an issue when the characters look barely anything like each other even with the color changes.

The Mario one is gone and the Fox one is gone (he's purple now). Ike also lost his Chrom look and no one was in danger of mistaking them for each other.

I don't think it's a matter of looking like each other, I think they're just getting rid of all colors who reference characters already in the game.

Disney would be totally fine with it as long as Square is. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/234547-super-smash-bros-ultimate/76889336

Mario had it until last game though, two games after Wario debuted. Isn't Fox's purple just the screen tint due to being an off-screen shot?

Either way, if we're nitpicking like that, Ike doesn't have the Black Knight's colors due to those brown patches on his outfit. His cape also is brown and red, rather than black and red (Radiant Dawn), or just red (Path of Radiance). Chrom also lost his Sigurd colors. 4 colors had to go in his case due to bringing back the Path of Radiance model without increasing the number of colors.

Pit also got back the black wings for his Dark Pit color

Nope.

But we'll see. I don't think Black Knight is getting in anyway, he would be pretty dumb as an Ike clone.

I would be fine with Sora without simple and clean as long as they added a remix of one of these:

What if donald and goofy actually are in the game, not playable though perhaps part of a final smash and with trkohys

I mean Dracula is in the game

I think Disney is just super protective of their IP. If Donald and Goofy were part of a final smash or an AT then you could watch Goofy beat up Isabelle and I doubt Disney would be thrilled by that. I'd be pumped if they made it in, but I feel like Sakurai would have to fight hard for it.

I brought it up before, but what if Donald and Goofy are like pokemon trainer on the side, except they do different stuff. Give potions to sora, cast magic, etc.

I know, I've read it and that's why I believe they should stick to the japanese characters. AAA western games already get way too much love and sales, Japan is simply getting left behind. Let Smash be that Nintendo and a few JP guest stars place, we don't need the same AAA characters and franchises everywhere -- I'm getting sick of how focused in just a few titles this industry is becoming while all the smaller genres and games I like are either dead or dying.

And I don't know, I feel like this talks only about console gaming. I had a DS and PSP that gen and they got LOTS of good japanese games: RPGs, rhythm games, wacky stuff, etc. I don't feel like the modern japanese hits ressonate with me nearly as much as they feel made to appeal to these AAA demographics: I don't personally care about modern Persona (SMT is cool tho), wasn't a fan of BOTW, don't care about MHW, etc. Feels like they're just giving up in japanese game design.

And Nintendo... I'll be honest. I've been feeling disappointed with the Switch. I really don't feel like it's taking up the mantle from the DS and 3DS, we get few brand new japanese games from third parties and Nintendo's output isn't that exciting to me as I've felt for future titles during the Wii/DS gen and Wii U/3DS gen. We almost don't get smaller stuff anymore.

Smash letting franchises like unique franchises like Rhythm Heaven die while pandering to the ultra pandered Ultra AAA Games is just a sign that even Nintendo may not be for me anymore and maybe it's time to accept that gaming moved on without me and I should just stop.

Sorry for rant. :(
No problem, it's actually really interesting to hear perspectives on this, and honestly I agree with a lot of this. I just can't bring myself to care about a lot of the Western gaming industry outside a few indies.

I'm sorry to hear that. I think it may be worth sticking around for this hype cycle and if things don't get better, it may be best to tap out. I did that for a year or two and it made coming back to the Switch and JP PS4 titles all the sweeter.

I also think Smash should be exclusively Nintendo and Japanese 3rd Parties (special exception for Banjo), maybe with a little bits and bobs for nice Nintendo-friendly indies like Shovel Knight. Putting Western characters in just doesn't vibe with Smash's identity and makes the game feel less cohesive, even for a game that's a mishmash by nature. This is the proving grounds for Japanese games, that's why Golden Sun, Advance Wars, Sin & Punishment, Phoenix Wright, Okami, and all that jazz are the most deserving of representation in my eyes - because it helps Nintendo strengthen it's IP, while also promoting other Japanese pals that work well with Nintendo. Whenever people ask for Lara or Master Chief it just feels so blech.

I actually never stopped to consider how focused the modern industry is on select titles, but I think you're right - that's why I think pet projects like Automata are a big deal, there's now more room for interesting one-off games, and indies are doing better than before, even if they aren't taking the industry by storm. I guess I can't make you like Persona, but I think it's one of the best examples of classic Japanese game design effectively adapted to the modern era while also preserving it's original appeal. MHW may have felt less intense than previous titles, but it still felt way more muted than the surrounding AAA games - you simply are a hunter who hunts, and everything is subservient to that one basic design principle. BOTW feels more like a stepping stone, but to me it definitely felt more classical than other open world games, with it simply giving you a goal and letting you figure out the rest, kind of like old Dragon Quest, stuff like that. I can see where our opinions diverge, but I think these titles were effective evolution of Japanese design principles without sacrificing the original identity. Especially Odyssey.

For what it's worth, the 3DS had a very poor starting lineup for the first year or so, and only became huge about 2 or so years in. I think the Switch has done much more admirably on that front and while I don't know the specifics of Nintendo's dev teams, I think that once we get all these Wii U ports out of the system, we'll probably see more small scale titles.

Thanks for sharing!

I don't know if this is the right thread for this, but hoping someone here can help me out.

I have an issue with all of my calendar apps. They all say September 20, when I really, really think they should be saying December 7...

I've been told to just wait it out and eventually the apps will correct themselves, but there has to be a faster way :/

Yeah, that's why I'm more OK with Steve getting in than any Dragon Quest representation. At this point, that asshole isn't getting money from Minecraft any more. Sugiyama would be getting money from Smash if DQ music got in.

That having been said, fuck Notch.

Yeah, that's another big concern of mine. At least Notch won't make anything off of Steve in Smash, whereas that racist trashbag Sugiyama would still be getting dividends from DQ music.
