I recently went to go watch Jurassic Park in theaters last Sunday and I absolutely loved it. I had never seen it before and even though the movie has been out for a while it still looks fantastic. I really enjoyed it and I'm planning on buying it for home use.

I've been thinking of watching the sequels but I've heard mixed things about them. The only Jurassic Park movie I saw when I was younger was Jurassic Park 3 and while I liked it, I later found out that it was pretty bad lol. I was going to watch Jurassic World but I got turned off from watching it when I saw that one woman getting eaten alive technically. Haven't had a desire to watch that one sense.

So what say you Era? Should I watch the other ones?

EDIT: I probably should mention that they were showing it at my local theater as part of the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom anniversary event.

IMHO, they kind of slowly get worse the more the series goes on. At least Pete Postlethwaite gets to chew scenery as a fun villain but obvious Muldoon clone in Lost World, but by the time you've hit Jurassic World 2 they've tanked thematically and as popcorn films. It's kind of amazing how much cachet a 5 film series can generate from one almost 30 years later.

There is only one good Jurassic Park movie. That being said, if you go in with the right expectations, there's plenty enjoyment to be had with the later movies.

I personally loved Jurassic Park 2, especially the first half. The latter half, ok i can argue is bad. But it has a place in my heart.
JP2 - Ok sequel, get more dinosaurs and an amazing dinosaur scene at night
JP3 - Its really bad. Just watch it when bored, but it really is so bad.
JWorld - Its a good movie. It brings you back into the world
JW FKingdom - Great intro, more dinosaurs. Story is shit, but i think its a good sequel to JWorld

Honestly, you will enjoy every single one of these flicks besides JP3. It probably won't touch anywhere close to the original, but if you want more dinosaurs, you will love it!

You can watch the others, but keep your expectations in check. It's all downhill from here.
If you enjoyed the raptor chase stuff at the end of JP, and want a more "monster movie / slasher" approach to storytelling, then go ahead. The effects are still pretty cool at times.

Edit: I have not seen JW2

give it ten years, forget a bunch of shit about the original, then see it in theaters again when they inevitably rerelease it.

this is the optimal JP experience.

The sequels mostly suck.

The Lost World is the most phoned in film Spielberg has ever made, and arguably his worst.

JP3 is bad too, but it's mercifully short.

Jurassic World is dumb fun. The "best" sequel.

Fallen Kingdom is even dumber, and not very fun.

I would. I think the sequels are all a big step down, but they're worth a watch. Not like you have many dinosaur movies anyway. In terms of enjoyment, for me it went:

1. Jurassic Park
2. Jurassic World
3. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
4. Jurassic Park III
5. The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Timothy Dalton?

Honestly I liked 3 more than 2.

2 is bad man

It had a few great moments and genuinely iconic sound design (the cellphone, the raptor skull); but 3 was really just a badly written amateur knockoff of Jurassic Park. It had no reason to exist and added nothing to the series. The Lost World however was a great thrill ride that really expanded upon the original movie (although not as much as JW and FK), and of course has some of Spielberg's best action and John Williams' amazing music.

Stop with the first. Cherish your time with it and don't make the same mistake many of us made by giving any of the others precious time

Give them a watch for sure -- however, don't expect Jurassic Park again.

The Lost World is the best of the sequels, followed by Jurassic World simply for silly fun factor.

Fallen Kingdom has many good ideas, and some great cinematography, but it's the worst of the bunch IMO.

Each movie is worse than the one before with the exception of JW 2 being barely better than JW

They aren't bad movies but they don't quite match up the sense of wonder that the first movie had, though Jurassic World kinda capture that feeling with what a dinosaur park would look like but it quickly fades and I just can't stomach the fact that everyone in that movie are fucking idiots along with the fact that the movie does a very bad job of showing how smart the I-Rex is...but hey it has Nick from New Girl.

Personally speaking I got bored of the whole formula of people going the island, Dinosaurs are amazing, dinosaurs are uncontrollable, escape the island while going actually on second thoughts dinosaurs are amazing...end credit.

Watch The Lost World and Jurassic World understanding they a massive step down from the original but still entertaining popcorn flicks.

You watched 3, so do yourself a favor and never watch it again. Fallen Kingdom can burn in hell. Never watch that. Ever. I didn't absolutely hate it after I saw it in there theater. But over time I've come to realize it's an abomination.

JP2 is kinda overly silly towards the end, but is good. JP3 gets hated on for many reasons (some valid), but is probably a stronger movie than JP2.

Jeff Goldblum doesn't remember how to act like Ian Malcolm in 2. It's pretty lame.

Alan Grant is in 3 so thats already a head start. There's also a pretty good scene in there with Ellie and him.

AlexFlame116 What did you think of the rex attack? Had you seen the scene before, or was this your first time seeing that sequence as well?

If you haven't, I'd recommend checking out Spielberg's War of the Worlds. It's not as good character-wise as JP but Spielberg brings the same sensibilities for set-pieces and building tension to the action and suspense sequences to that movie

I wouldn't seek them out but I wouldn't say turn away if you pass them by somehow. They're mostly stupid. The next one is only more focus group tested than the last as you go down the line. The characters just get worse and the dinosaurs become more gimmicky. But they aren't totally unenjoyable.

The Lost World has too many incredible sequences to skip

It's the only film that delivers thrills, mystery, and adventure on par with Jurassic Park

I've enjoyed them all. I liked the first one the most though. I say they're all worth a watch. I personally don't listen to the popular opinion on these types of movies, because I usually enjoy them anyways. If it's a no name movie though? I usually listen.
