So there's no way yet of saving Spotify songs for offline listening and transferring them to the watch?

Spotify needs to make a native watchOS app first. They probably will, given there's already an Apple Music watchOS app that's pretty robust and a selling point of the service.

Ordered one on apples website because the closest Apple store is almost 2 hours away, and it's telling me I will get it in the middle of next month.

Don't pay much attention to the shipping estimates, they tend to inflate it on purpose so you get surprised when it arrives "early". Underpromise, overdeliver is the apple store MO.

WatchOS 5 adds a *lot* of public APIs that let third-party apps nearly reach feature parity with the built-in music and podcast apps, so yeah, I think Spotify now has the tools they need to build a high-quality WatchOS app.

Yeah, I was reading about streamkit and the other API's. The watch platform is definitely in a great place these days. 2015 was a dark time.

I want my cake and to eat it too. I've owned two of these and at their cost I want to pick a style I want and to be able take advantage of its functionality. Not sure why this is difficult.

I know the form would affect the functionality, and I'm saying to Apple figure it out.
You do realize that the whole point of "wanting your cake and eating it too" is saying the statement is a contradiction right? Why should anybody take it seriously that you're saying Apple should create a contradiction?

I'm still on my now 3+ years old series 0, and I'm interested in getting this one.

Cellular seems cool, but the extra $100 makes me not feel good about it, when my series 0 isn't useless by any means.

$500 is a lot for a Watch when I still like mine.

Plus you still have to pay extra for the cellular option on your phone bill each month so it's really not just 100 bucks.

Yeah, if I do get a Series 4, it'll likely be without cellular.

If the Watch works better, than I should have no problem syncing music and apps to it.

My current Series 0 sometimes freezes up and crashes apps if I listen to music during a run.
I use my watch for less and less because of how much stuff still takes so long to load, or more often just crashes.

I still use and like it a lot, for texting, tracking workouts, and most importantly, time keeping.

How's day to day performance on the Series 3 and 4, to those who have them?

Looks like the aluminum is packaged the same way as the stainless. I'm getting really tempted to buy one of these. I only had the series 0 but didn't love it, I kind of just liked wearing a traditional watch but these things look so much more full featured now.

Over the week I've just convinced myself I want one now. Was always a little jealous of my mom's series 0. I'm hoping I can grab one when I pick up my 10 plus tomorrow

Yeah my series 2 runs like ass so I'm probably going to upgrade as well.

"OMG it only gets 18 hours of battery!?!?"

"How do that not have always-on yet!?!"

you see the problem here, right?

on top of that I think there is potential blowback to apple for having always-on when it comes to complications. right now the complications only run/execute when you wake the watch. having "always-on" would mean the complication(s) would be always running to update visually.

for an actual always on, they'd need a minimal face and disallow complications on it (which they already do on some faces). I'm not saying it's impossible.. but it would probably not be what people expect.. for it to not be disastrous PR.. I feel it would really need to be limited to a specific "always-on" face.
You would also have to potentially worry about burn in on an OLED.

Just make only the clock appear for always on and make complications/images/etc. only appear on wrist raise. That would be perfectly fine for an always on display. You don't even have to show the seconds hand. This would also work with basically every watch face.

Although I agree that battery life is the restricting factor, I don't think complications are an issue at all. If you can press a complication you can almost certainly press the crown to activate the display already. Most of the desire for an always on display I've seen comes from wanting to be able to read the time at any point, in which case you've already pointed to the solution; a minimal display that only shows the time.

MrWonderful has actually touched on a potential solution here, where to allow for an always on display you could introduce an OLED screen and when the screen isn't awake have it be all black background with a minimal amount of pixels displaying the time while still having it readable so that battery life is conserved as much as possible, but I think such a configuration is probably prohibitively expensive (EDIT: should clarify I mean in terms of the risk of burn-in and battery drain, rather than expensive in terms of price) for now at least.

I bought a Gen 2 because I figured I would find lots of uses for it. It's great at telling time and I feel the vibrations better on texts than my phone in my pocket. But other than that it just annoys me with fitness goals and telling me to breathe.

I guess this is one of those "I feel old" moments.

Contradictory to how you're putting it sure. I expect more from Apple and their designers/devs, sorry but not sorry. I expect form options I like and the functionality to react to that form. Why again is this so damn hard?

I've noticed in Watch OS 5, when I'm out walking around it will pop up a notification asking if I want to record it as a workout. I don't like this, if I want to record a workout I'll do it myself. I can't figure out how to turn this off though, it isn't in the activity section of notifications. Any ideas?

Watch app -> workout -> start workout reminder and end workout reminder

Canceling my pre-order in disgust. /s

Packaging was different with the old SS vs aluminum models right? I was just hoping the aluminum had that dope little watch sleeve.

Packaging the bands and the faces separately is pretty smart though. Wonder if they'll change them periodically?

Still tempted to buy one of these. I think I'm going to wait until after Christmas though. I just bought the Max. Gotta be a good boy for a while.

So I'm talking myself into the SS Gold, am I insane? I wear a Navy suit pretty much every day and I'm worried about it being too flashy but in every video I'm watching it looks subdued enough where it's not tacky but also not bland. I have an aluminum space grey one for the past few years and it works fine w/ my suits (I mainly wear watch at work or the gym, tend not to in street clothes) but the gold one just looks soooo fucking dope in videos but I also can't tell if I'll be able to pull it off.

What do you guys think, does the SS gold look gaudy or do you think it will fit in a professional setting?

So none of the stores around me have it in stock today (not even official Apple resellers), and the Apple Store doesn't have it in stock until the second half of October, even though the release date in The Netherlands is today. The two biggest online retailers also don't have it, and they don't have a releasedate for it on their site. I'm confused.

Ordered from Best Buy Canada last weekend (it was still in stock), but it still hasn't shipped. I can even still cancel the order, which is bizarre. I'll be blown away if this arrives tomorrow

Man, I'm astonished they let you open links on this thing. Looking like I will finally update from series0 launch model. I'm very bummed though, I've worn the brown modern buckle since it came out and they no longer offer it. I really want to get my hands on a new one. They were listing it still on their site before the new models came out.

Wonder if this being the first 64 bit apple watch means it will get iPhone 5s-level support / maintained performance compared to the older models.

The new gold color looks amazing. I'm now more concerned about how do I dress up or down an Apple watch.

I haven't seen any reviews featuring the silver aluminum. Always the black or the gold.

I'm second guessing my order, might have to cancel it and get the space grey.

a lot of these pics and videos make the 4 seem quite a bit thinner and more 'natural' looking on the wrist than the 3. But it doesn't seem like it should be that big a difference.

Anyone seen any side by side pics of the two watches' profiles anywhere?

Silver is 3, black is 4.

Series 4 44mm on small wrists is funny. Apple Watch going to replace the iPhone SE in size.
