I'm a bit worried Rhythym Heaven hasn't been rumored yet. Starting to feel much less confident in its chances of getting a character.
Count me in for those who would really love a Minecraft stage and can't really get down with Steve as a character. I really do like the game a lot, but I think it's much better suited for a stage personally.

Apparently he is the Japanese game producer at Square Enix. To quote the wiki.
So technically speaking, you could argue that this is on par with Microsoft saying that they'd be totally ok if they were asked to let Banjo into Smash. Not really a confirmation, but would serve as a "Not out of the realm of possibility"

That image was from the ballot, but I just check, and yeah. Looks like the original game is still up (although I'd imagine it's unrecognizable with updates).
Cloud? Snake? Sonic? Ryu? They all come from huge franchises, so the focus would have to be on the western part rather than the enormous part. Even then though, Minecraft is huge in Japan.
Steve is the deal with the devil I would gladly make in order for Banjo-Kazooie to be in. And a bunch of kids are going to be very happy at this.

I guess most of my salt would come from if I didn't get a character I wanted or cared for. I guess I'll be less apprehensive if Elma got in cause at least then the newcomer roster wouldn't be total garbage even if Steve were to tip it to the garbage side alot.

Maybe the Square character could be Sora. I doubt Vergeben and co would have a Disney source and maybe the red tape around Sora and Disney's inclusion could cause them to be extra secretive.

He's the head of Business Division 3 of Square Enix and also the producer of the KH series since the beginning.
It could be Sora, but Square's copyright protectiveness of their own brands is extremely known and this goes especially so for a franchise like Dragon Quest which is one of their big merchandising cows and has so many individual rights holders to be concerned about. I don't think we can say for certain that it's either.
That having been said, the fact that Sora would mean Disney involvement does send a sense of there being a higher level of sensitivity, because if something like Sora leaked, well, that would look bad not just on Square and Nintendo, that'd also look bad in front of Disney. And I don't think anyone wants to look bad in front of them.
