Hell yeah! I'm so in on this.Bit late on this post, but we just announced it'll be out September 29th.
Do you guys have an official Discord?

Risk of Rain is a fairly easy purchase at $10 US, enjoyed the fifteen minutes or so I played already. Had to swap the A and B buttons though, it felt really off jumping with A.
The atmosphere in that game is so great, the sound design is really nice and the level up sound effect in particular is incredible.... really elicits some sort of weird emotional or nostalgic response for me, idk why really
Wait...how did I not know this was coming to Switch? I love Roguelikes and always hear great things....might have to get this, especially at this price.
I live and breathe roguelikes/lites but I wasn't impressed with RoR on Vita due to needing a magnifying glass. It was a decent game mechanically but I don't think that the sense of scale with gigantic enemies was worth making most everything ant-sized. Maybe it'll look a lot better on Switch though, I dunno.

I tried to play Gradius with the joy-con yesterday and it was pure hell. Diagonals are a nightmare. I need a new controller that's precise enough for 2D games. I'm considering grabbing the Pokken controller too, so if any of you guys have something to say about it, I would greatly appreciate it!
And no, I don't really care about rumble, motion controls and wireless. I'm mostly concerned about the ergonomics and the d-pad accuracy for 2D games.
Amazon . jp isn't terribad, but I am not sure about other placesWhere do you guys go when you want to import stuff (hardware) from Japan ? I only know Play-Asia but from the few times I've browsed there they didn't seem cheap.
Tempted to go hori for my retro needs.

I just paid about $4.50 a piece for them...So Sega Ages titles are $8, only $2 more than the 3D Classics. I'm fine with that, considering it's meant to be the "console" version of some of these titles. Though if anything, this means they'll be like $4 or $5 eventually down the road considering how many times the 3D Classics have gone on sale.
Thanks for hyping me up for a game that isn't even out yet in Europe apparently. Damn you. ^^
Has anyone tried out Hover yet on Switch? I don't know whether to buy on PS4 or Switch, just worried about potential performance issues on Switch.
NWR review of Hover is well...the port not only seem unpolished, but the game feels very rough, I had too high expectations I must admit.
Anyone got THE SWINDLE? I'm super thrilled by the game but if the port doesn't stand I'm not biting.
The game is ropey as fuuuuuck, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. My biggest issue is that the characters lack weight.
I had no idea that the city was an online hub. I got through the tutorial and was met with like 50 people already running around the city.
That's some WiiWare-tier shovelware right there
I'm thinking of picking up Capcom Beat 'Em Up. As a relative newbie to the genre and having only played Final Fight, what would be the recommended progression through the collection to maximize my enjoyment?
Does anyone know if Risk of rain co op has local networking between two switches, and if you can separate from each other with the online co op?
Have been watching some reviews on the Pokken controller and people seem to like it, nice d-pad. I also don't care about rumble etc missing as I usually turn it off these days lol, but have to admit I wear the shit out of my screenshot button taking pictures so not having that is a bummer! :P (also the no home button thing might get annoying sometimes too).
2 of the shoulder buttons are just plonked on the front as sorta afterthoughts too so might not be very good for certain games, but for basic retro stuff I think it could be good!
My major advice if you're looking for a good DPAD is, don't buy the Pro Controller. While it has amazing sticks and it's very confortable, it has one of the worst DPADs in a modern controller. With games including simple directional inputs, you will not have problems. But it's very easy to register up and down directions when you swap between the right and the left directions. This will make games such as 'Puyo Puyo Tetris' or fighting games unplayable.
I was one of those saying "it's not as bad", until I tried to play 'Puyo Puyo Tetris'. And I confirmed that all the terror stories regarding this controller, were truth.
Also, it seems that the 8bitdo controllers have the exact same problem with the DPAD, as has been cited multiple times by Dash Kappei , and he really knows the "retro" stuff. So I will rely in his opinion to stay far away from these DPADs.
I have read a lot of good stories about the Hori DPAD included in the right Joycon, I'm waiting for an European release to bite the bullet.
The negative thing of this DPAD is that you can only play in portable mode.
The thing that I still want is a DPAD as good as the Hori Joycon one, but in a bluetooth controller, and officially licensed by Nintendo, so I will not see the controller support broken every time that Nintendo decides to release an OS update, waiting for a new firmware.
Go ahead and grab yourself a Magic NS Adapter and get those PS4/XBO controllers rockin. DS4 is very comfortable for Switch games. Loving mine.
Velocity 2X is out today. Was brilliant on PS4 and Vita, needs to sell on Switch for the sequel to be funded.
OK thanks. I didn't know if the later games would be more refined in terms of mechanics.I don't really think there is a natural progression. They're all similar games with small differences in structure. King of Dragons/Knights of the Round have a bit of RPG element to them with weapon upgrades. Battle Circuit (which is amazing and I'm so glad I finally get to play) has a totally different level-based setup with some short levels, some long levels, some walking, some shooting, etc. Captain Commando is more like Final Fight. They're all good. Pick one you like and go with it.
Thanks for your comments, guys!
And I didn't know about the Magic NS Adapter... I own a Wii U Pro Controller and really like it, so I guess I'll buy the adapter instead of a new controller.

A new twin stick shooter will be released this Friday in the US, 'Debris Infinity', priced at $4.99.
While it's made in Spain, the game has the distinctive flavor of British developed arcade games in the Xbox Live Arcade era.
Hopefully, it will see a release in Europe soon. I really need a pure good-old neon infused twin stick shooter in Switch.
This look great and my have potential to scratch that geometry wars itch

Fantastic write-up. I need to play Ice Climber as soon as possible.Damn, portable 'Risk of Rain' with a big screen, contrary to the Vita version in which the characters were too small. This is game changer.
I will pick up a Sega Ages release, still deciding between 'Thunder Force IV' and 'Sonic the Hedgehog'.
In one hand, 'Sonic the Hedgehog' is my second favorite classic platformer, just after the first 'Super Mario Bros'. Not only it's my favorite entry in the series, because it's much more based in tight platforming sections and less in creating "eye-popping" designs trying to impress you with the crazy ways in which Sonic can defy the gravity. I will say that is the only entry in the series that I like. And I even see this, due to the color palette, as a game set in the same "Fantasy" universe of 'Space Harrier'.
In the other hand, I'm not an enthusiast of 'Thunder Force IV'. Not a bad game, but not as perfect designed as 'Thunder Force III' that in my opinion, is the best shmup ever created for a domestic console, so good that it was ported to the arcades. But I like to support shump releases with my money, to send the correct messages to the companies: port every shmup ever released to Switch, even the bad ones.
And like Jim_Cacher I'm also absorbed into the NES vortex.
NES was my favorite classic console. And since the release of Switch in March with the unforgettable 'Breath of the Wild', the magic of 'The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+' in portable form and the great surprise of 'VOEZ', not to talk of how much fun was 'Snipperclips' played with friends... I haven't enjoyed so much of my Switch like in this last week.
All these NES games in portable form and with a CRT shader are a dream. And I'm really enjoying of 'Ice Climber' for the first time, after negating the game for a lot of years. Once you understand the things that the game is trying to do, it's like the first "jump" into the 'Super Mario Bros' territory. A game based in dominating tricky physics in the jump. With the same ambitious structure, with 32 mountains designed with a vertical scroll, in the same way as 'Super Mario Bros' had 32 horizontal levels.
The thing is that 'Ice Climber' is a game based in the same design concepts that 'Snake Pass'. It's all about dying in tricky obstacles and failing while you try to figure the tricks to ascend. Do you see these walls? You will need to learn the angle of your bounce when you jump into the wall, to reach the platforms.
Like 'Snake Pass', the first hours are based in the "frustration" of mastering and dominating each jump. Until you reach a point in which you will nail every jump, and you will know the exact second in which you need to push the button to reach the platform.
A pretty fascinating title, specially seeing how its director was in charge of programming 'Super Mario Bros'. A lot of the ambitious concepts of 'Super Mario Bros', like a complex structure based in levels to sculpt a complete universe inside a video game, with the same perfect difficulty curve, are present in 'Ice Climber'. With the difference that 'Super Mario Bros' was to 'Ice Climber' the same thing that 'Super Mario Odyssey' is to 'Snake Pass': the opposite to an easy-to-pick game.
I'm thinking of picking up Undertale. Looks really interesting and has been getting incredible reviews over the years. The Japanese also seem to love it.
The Gardens Between looks really nice. Is it a good game? Reminds me of Captain Toad slightly.
Ok, no nostalgia goggles needed, Thunder Force IV remains my favourite mega drive and shmup ever, it's soooooo fucking good!
And yeah, playing this without scanlines is impossible for me, I just don't recognise the game anymore without them, it's really weird.
