I cannot clarify enough how hyped I am.

I am so ready for this season and I really hope I can stay caught up on it so I can talk about it with ya'll.

That was awful. Feels like the kind of trailer NBC would cut for a TV show about policemen or firefighters.

I trust that the actual show will be different.

Haven't been interested in any Doctor Who since Tennant left 400 years ago. But this look good. CGI looks decent, too.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I like almost everything I've seen so far, but the ghost of Chibnalls past lingers like a shadow over the entire production. I'm hoping the quality is closer to the first season of Broadchurch rather than early Torchwood or the Power of three.

Is it bad to say that none of these trailers have done anything to excite me? There's just too much of a focus on characters walking or running around dull environments and, despite the "inb4" snark above, the music really doesn't feel adventurous, heroic, spooky or like anything I associate with Doctor Who. They also haven't really done a great job on developing the 14th Doctor's character, which is a shame because I can see that Whittaker is a good fit for the role.

Solid trailer.

Most excited I've been for the show since the relaunch.

I wish it was October already. I wasn't crazy about the outfit at first but it works now that I see her moving around in it. Similar to some of the stuff 12 would wear.

Can't believe I'm going to say this about Doctor who, but the CGI looks decent. I wonder if BBC finally gave it the budget they do to some of their other bigger shows

"Doctor Who would never lower itself to using pop music..."

Admittedly, that episode was so awful that many people might have tried to forget it.

Trailer looks great, and Whittaker looks like she's having an absolute blast.

Not a massive Doc Who fan but I've been getting more into it recently by watching the older episodes and I've got to say I hope they have more episodes set in the past rather than the future. Future in my experience is normally quite dull and boring compared to episodes set in the past. Also not sure how I feel about this new Doctor's personality yet, the whole unending optimism and positivity vibe I'm getting from the trailers might become grating over time but maybe I'm just too used to the first Doctor from the reboot atm who could have a bit of a bite to him at times. I liked Jodie Whittaker from Attack the Block though so I'm definitely interested to see how she is as The Doctor and I have fairly high hopes that it'll be good.

I love that she seems like the perfect mix between Tennant and Smith right down to her mannerisms.

So what I the consensus on the new Doctors personality? Do we even know yet?

Tennant was clever and sad

Smith was happy and dark

Capaldi was grim and a bit crazy (more than usual lol)

Set reports from people leaking here and there seems to suggest she'll be somewhere between Tennant and Smith. The cleverness and the happy wonder at everything... but, of course, she's going to put her own stamp on it too, no doubt.

I'm glad to hear it. While I did always like the Doctor having a more serious side at times I would like to see a happier Doctor now. It would be a nice change of pace.

Too early to tell I suppose.

And each Doctor usually had an arc like Tennant going from cheery too clever for his own good to the vindictive 'Timelord Victorious'.

I'm getting Peter Davidson vibes at the moment.

Looks good. Seems like the BBC has upped the budget a bit too.

I'm going to miss hearing Capaldi say "and don't forget to subscribe to the Doctor Who YouTube channel."

"Cuz she's in charge, bro." "Says who?" "Says us! >:("

I AM DECEASED. They love her so much and are so loyal. And she looks so fucking awesome too. That bit with blowing the kiss to something pretty much killed me too. I love this Doctor already.

Guess I'm back

Wonder what her season long storyline will be, and hope her side characters are as fun as she seems to be

This is just a guess, but Chibnall's (new showerunner) comments in interviews etc have suggested he wants to get away from a reliance on over-arching plot and move back towards being a plot-of-the-week style show. I expect there will be something, but probably something very light touch like Bad Wolf or Mr Saxon versus something that more explicitly runs through the season like we got in some of the later series'. There's no two-parters to be sure.

Short, but a lot more substantial than anything we've seen up until now. Excitement levels slowly rising.

One thing I will say though, is that I can't fathom how we keep ending up with such shitty video quality on official BBC promo releases. In addition to being soft and compressed to hell and back, there's some kind of combing artefacts visible in every cross-fade. How and why.

Really? That's a shame. I loved the three-or-so two parters we got per series back in the day.

That's good, overarching plots have been a drag last few seasons. I like how in Who I always have dropped in and out. I caught up on the whole series by understanding the basic lore when the doc meet the daleks in WWII for example.

Also, how many women are on writing staff? I never took a lot how diverse it is behind the scenes.

Jodie looks amazing, and that's the main thing.

The whole thing looks a lot more polished than we're used to. They're clearly holding their cards close to their chests, but I'm incredibly excited.

There are two women on the writing staff- Malorie Blackman and Joy Wilkinson.

Blackman's also one of Doctor Who's first POC writers, along with Vinay Patel.

I think this was at its worst in Capaldi's first couple of seasons, but I thought Season 10 was an utter delight.

Iffy trailer, but I'm still excited to see how this turns out.

This along with Chibnall's writing record has me really cautious about the season, though. The over-arching plots were great and part of the reason I really loved Moffat's Who a ton.

Looks good. I presume they don't want to give away anything which is why we're just getting shots of folks running around at this point.

Yep. Chibnall has implemented a writers room to help construct this series with some amount of consistency. Whole new directors. New composer. New start.
That ended up being not quite the case. Chibnall is working with some of the writers in shaping the overall arc of the season, but it isn't exactly the same as a writers room.

That sounds great to me. The season long arcs were genuinely pretty bad, in that they always seemed to tease something shocking and revelatory (the TARDIS exploded, the Doctor died, etc) but just ended up being undone through some kind of time-travel gobbledegook.

I am not opposed to having a big arc, but they would need to be completely different than the way they were done before.

I'm annoyed that they've turned the show into an ensemble cast (as opposed to just the Doctor and the companion). Feels like they don't believe Whittaker can carry the show.

They're selling it as going back to first principles- after all, the classic series started with the Doctor and three companions.

I don't think it's a crutch for Whittaker any more than 11, Amy, Rory and River was a crutch for Smith.
