Hope not. I really liked her in Rise and so far love her in Shadow too, it would be terrible to see her go unless they make a complete reboot and goes for a much more cocky Lara.

She always got a lot of criticism but to be honest she seemed fine to me. The bigger issue has always been the writing and I assume direction.

She put in a great performance as Lara (although as someone from England, I never really bought into her English accent).

That said, I can see Square taking a break from the series to focus on more profitable projects (like more Marvel games). They put a lot of money into these games, but they never really took off in a way they would have wanted. As a massive Uncharted fan, there are tings I wished the series does as well as Tomb Raider, but TR never felt special to me in the way that Uncharted does.

Yeah, but how well will the next one be able to scream out "Jonah!"

That's the important question.

Wait I thought Camilla was born in England? So now her accent isn't thick enough? Weird.
I thought she did fine. Even if she's done she should truck her way over to Naughty Dog and join Chloe in the next Uncharted. Name her character Laura Knack or something. :D

The way Shadow is going she'll probably be retired anyway when the next installment comes out :P

I know but she lived in the US so her accent wasn't fully British in the game due to her american accent slipping into the voice acting.

Edit: I am also not American.

I mean... You're just talking out your ass. Watch her in interviews. She doesn't speak like an american. She has a british accent. LOL

She has a british accent. She does say a few words the american way, yes. But she isn't "faking" her accent, so there's nothing really to slip through.

Honestly, and I'm sorry to be mean now, but this is only a good thing. Luddigtons execution and acting were so incredibly poor that almost every line made my eyes roll out of my eye sockets. Perhaps Luddington's performance was mostly due to incompetent voice directors, but her presence was fundamentally detrimental to an already unbelievably bad narrative.

Especially her constant exasperation and fragile voice acting.

I agree though I still need to play Shadow. Her first two games were quiet bad.

As much as I love reboot games, I agree with everyone saying she doesn't sound British, I still love her tho and hope she gets to keep playing Lara on spin offs games or something.

Agreed. Her performance was weird, even the lines deliveries in cutscenes. As if she was constantly out of breath or stretching every word. Hard to explain but definitely not natural.

She was so bad in Tomb Raider and Rise,

But in Shadow she's blowing me away. Such a night and day difference

It seems likely. Crystal Dynamics is all hands on the Avengers, and the next Tomb Raider would likely be another 3-4-5 years away at least therefore, so may as well have a new soft reboot of sorts that shakes things up.

Step back a bit and analye how Entertainment Tonight is covering a freaking videogame and breaking news about said videogame.

Entertainment freaking Tonight, people!

I wouldn't have believed you this would happen in a mere 5 years ago when TR2013 launched.

If they would reboot again with older Lara, Gemma would have been perfect.
Too bad she probably does not cate about video game related work.

100% this.

To quote Easy Allies, we are definitely in for a Tomb Raider nap unless Shadow does gangbusters and inspires Square to outsource a sequel to another studio in the mean time.

I also have to agree that Camilla was great in cutscenes, but her side quest dialogue is horrifically delivered. The quality differential is honestly jarring when moving between main and side quests in the game, so maybe it is time for a shake up and move to someone else.

Laura Bailey perhaps? /s

I'm almost finished with Shadow and not really feeling it. I mean, take this scene for example:

Here she is regaling an old man about one of her adventures so he can live vicariously through her retelling - note how she just uses the usual flat affected Lara voice, dropping down in her throat to emphasise a word occasionally... basically how she talks the whole game. Once you pay attention to it, it becomes very repetitive and fake.

Can't really fault the writing, all the right beats seem to be there. This scene would have been an excellent moment to have Lara's genuine passion for archaeology and adventure come through, to actually mirror the young Lara we see in a flashback with her voice acting. Instead we just get same vocal tic she uses in nearly every line of dialogue.

I know Luddington has the range, so it seems to be a failure of the direction.

Haven't played Shadow, but wasn't a fan of her accent in the other games. It always felt a little off, almost like it was somewhat forced. As in if a non British person tried to emulate the accent.

The side quest dialog was much lower quality yes, but given that she has done really well in the main story cutscenes, it leads me to believe it was less her fault, and more of the director's - the side quest dialog often felt like it was recorded without knowing the context.

I have only played first 2 games but I liked her at first but then she started to annoy me more and more. Everything she says sounds too scripted. Maybe writing is part of the problem too? I don't know.

I haven't played shadow but liked her work on the two previous games, it would be a shame, but understandable, 3 games, over 5 years, fair enough.

Yeah I would agree that she's being directed to perform this way. It's almost like they don't want to give Lara too much personality for some reason. After three games, all of which I did thoroughly enjoy, I still feel like I don't really know much about Lara as a character, whereas I know quite a bit about Jonah, who's on screen substantially less. She's never really been much of a real person in any version of the games, but this was their opportunity to change that and I don't think they succeeded. Luddington tries but it really comes off like her hands are tied in terms of expanding the performance, especially in Shadow.

She sounds bored and out of context for most of the lines. I dont rate her performance but not much you can do with such bad scripts I guess.

Not sure if already posted but this might be why the ending changed to avoid leaving an open ending, here's the leaked one https://www.reddit.com/r/TombRaider...te_ending_spoilers/?utm_source=reddit-android

So maybe another reboot?

Tbh, both endings are very similiar -
only the one left in the game is a lot more subtle. It also has the butler (only his name isn't called out) and the game ends on a zoom on a drawing that is clearly a homage to TR1.

The erm... moaning really got old fast for me, had to turn the volume way down when playing the first two games.
If they do go for another reboot i hope it's more chill and about adventuring without being a mass murderer and having Lara die in incredibly gruesome ways.

Ehh, she's got a transatlantic accent now. It's nowhere near as strong an RP accent as when she played Kate Middleton and before she moved to the States.

She had really grown into the voice. She had a few "meh" in reboot and Rise but in Shadow she's rather good I would say.

If SE doesn't do any crazy shit, like putting Lara on hold for a long long ass time or worse, just abandon it like Sleeping Dogs, I hope they will find a good voice again.

I'm glad Tomb Raider's having a bit of a breather. This reboot has had a great run, but it's time to let it fallow a bit.

I do hope that Camilla finds more work in gaming - she's improved dramatically. And I also hope that the next time we see Lara, it's back to the cool and confident, Jolie-esque Croft. I want to see a Lara that's similarly self-assured and sassy to Bayonetta (albeit without the gaudy, and hyper-sexualisation)

I hope she continues as Lara Croft. She's done a great job and I love her voice!

I wonder where the series will go from here now that the trilogy is done.

It was the end of her origin story. I think the impression was that after this there would be more standalone games that didn't follow her father issues or Trinity.

Oh wow, that's super interesting! Slight changes are common, but I wonder how this was found.

Edit: ah, they patched in a new ending?
