Star Ocean 2

51OIzeydjFL._SX342_.jpg

An absolute classic of a game and one many, many people remember fondly from the PSX era. Star Ocean 2 benefits from:

-A robust crafting system that has a wholly different feel to it from modern day crafting, which includes non-combat items such as cooking and writing books

star-ocean-second-evolution-private-actions.jpg

-A unique mechanic of "private actions" where you isolate the protagonist to develop relationships with your party members, resulting in dozens of different endings based on those ratings at the end of the game

-An AMAZING SOUNDTRACK

latest

-A sci-fi setting that, unlike the other four games, actually spends half of the game in a scientifically advanced world

-A colorful cast that makes you think before recruiting a party member; one member may block out another. This encourages multiple playthroughs (as each optional member has a rather significant amount of private actions)

star-ocean-the-second-story-image522982.jpg
gfs_50493_1_2_mid.jpg

-Two campaigns with differing scenes between both characters, especially in private actions

-A very nice art style

-Not on PSN outside of Japan!

I love this game, unabashedly so, and I will be very sad if it isn't on the system. When I think Playstation, this is the first game to come to mind after Final Fantasy VII.

What about you? What game do you think people deserve to get the chance to play?

Silent Bomber
- more people should play this game and it's not available as a PS Classic outside of Japan/Asia
- just imagine Metal Gear Solid + Bomberman

BREAK OUT

....because it was the only game I played on the PS1.

... I only played the PS1 whenever I went to my grandfather's house because I didn't have one.

Everyone should see the true potential of Muppet Race Mania.

It's better than the past few Mario Karts combined!

Ape Escape was the game to introduce dual sticks to platform fans and to this day still holds up as a fantastic platformer in its own right. It's a glaring omission from the PSClassic and the decision to leave it out is a boggling one.

Less RPGs. More games popularized in the western market. That console better be packed full of SingleTrac titles... my favorite childhood game developer. That means I need to see Twisted Metal 1 and 2, Warhawk, and Jet Moto. Those games, along with Wipeout XL, are the ones that had a big role in defining early Sony. They all require a spot on the list.

I'll also toss out my darkhorse contender that I really hope appears... Insomniac's "Disruptor". The finest FPS on the PS1. Incredible graphics and design for the time.

Overblood 2, the PAL version. It has a really high chance to bug when switching to disc 2, making you unable to progress. It'll remind anyone who bitches and moans about day one patches about the horrible caveats of their nostalgic pasts.

The game is fun, has a great soundtrack and still looks great! Plus would be great awareness for remaster!

Die Hard trilogy.

The cab driving game was stressfully fun and spectacular and the tps not that bad, while the "Time Crisis" fps rail shooter didn't let me great memories.

Destruction Derby because... because.

Metal Gear Solid, because it's THE game from the PSX and this whole thing would be a joke if it wasn't on there.

But for something less obvious, Micro Machines V3, just because I loved it so much as a kid. I haven't played it in 20 years so I have no idea if it holds up, but I had so much fun racing around those tracks for hours.

Town adjacent to Silent Hill
Tomba is a adventure-platformer by Whoopee Camp. It features a connected world, and is structured around quests. This can range from something as simple as finding a particular area, to collecting certain items, to doing secret hidden objectives. Your main method of attacking is mounting your enemies, and throwing them off screen. This mountain mechanic is also used for traversal and puzzle solving throughout pretty much the entire game. I think the thing that Tomba accomplished the most, was create a unique feeling, cohesive world.

It can get fairly difficult, but most of its challenge is front-loaded.

Shawn Layden made people applaud for it on stage a few PSXs ago, that's gotta count for something.

There is quite a few games I'd love to see on the PS1 Classic.

Legend of Dragoon - It was one of my favorite RPGs growing up, however I never got to finish it because some jerk stole disc 4 from me :(

Also, it may sound very silly, but my gamertag (Hardvlade) came from Rose's Hard Blade move, I just changed it a bit, loved the way she said it when I was a teenager. I wish Sony would do a sequel or reboot the franchise in some way. I'd be there day 1!

SaGa Frontier - another excellent RPG! I grinded this game so much and replayed it non-stop

saga_frontier_wallpaper_by_paperemonga-dbuslc5.png

Azure Dreams - This one was unique and even though a bit difficult, I loved it. I don't think this will ever come back in any shape or form haha

Dealing with this d-bag was never fun lol

There were so many straight-up fire racing games on PS1, but ToCA 2 really set a new benchmark for licensed games. As much as I'd love this appearing on the Classic, there is no way it would because of the licensing. :(

ISS Pro was a game-changer for football games and it would be wonderful to go back to its simplistic nature -- a flawed but outstanding football game. Perfect for that extra controller.

Einhander.

Such a unique title for Square, with some incredible visuals and music. And it's never really seen any re-releases as far as I know.

Game of the Generation

Both Croc games are severely underrated, the second one was a better game than the Spyro games for example

I really hope they include...

16146411-1.1024.jpg

Which they are Liquidtmd I hear you cry!

However just as important for me...I really, really think they should include the Hi-Spec Demo from the original.

1) Ridge Racer was one of the big core titles from the very start of the system
2) The Hi Spec Demo was a nice bookend towards the mid-end of the era showing a good bump in framerate

I liked RR4 but honestly, RR was one of the blue sky classics for me (despite going into the era wanting Daytona but the home port of RR looked nicer IMO)

Edits: Props to this thread, I'd forgot Die Hard Trilogy. That would be nice

If it wasn't for the lack of a dual shock I'd go for rc stunt copter. That game is criminally underrated...

So I'm gonna say xenogears. Never came out in Europe so it would be a good addition for that market (plus it's better than the ff ps1 games imo).

Dino Crisis.

While RE was THE survival horror game, Dino Crisis was certainly unique. Large, tough dinosaurs that you had to decide to empty magazines into or use a tranq to buy a second or two to run past.

The danger and choice systems that lead to multiple ending boss battles.

Speaking of boss battles, don't forget perhaps the most iconic scene from that gen:

There's a healthy amount of unlocks to help keep the game replayable in addition to the aforementioned features.

Boy they better add Digimon World.

It's a stratospheric masterpiece, I'm telling you.
latest

- Lots of player freedom to explore and train your digimon as you see fit
- Non-linear story that rewards you for daring to explore farther than you can afford to based on your current digimon
- Teaches you life is hard by handling you shit evolutions for not knowing how the game works... Making it all the more rewarding when it finally clicks!
- Blue MetalGreymon
- SkullGreymon

Trust me on this one.

Unfortunately i don't think we'll see a tony hawks game because of music licencing.

For me, i'd like to see MGS, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Klonoa, Pacman World and Tombi

If it was on PS Classic I could see a bunch of streamers trying to figure it out, and it becoming a mini phenomenon.

RR type 4 is already confirmed on PS Classic.
