Will need to see the games list before getting excited. You could totally do all this with a PSP or PSTV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn straight! I got a PSP off eBay for 40 bucks, complete with box. Installed CFW, Ripped my games (Twisted metal games, WWF, both Doom games, plus much more) i love it!

I'm half tempted to eventually get a PSP, the Vita was great but feels like so much was cut off and good god the memory card situation of that thing

Nintendo sure did open a can of worms with those classic systems. Seeing them get progressively more expensive definitely makes them less appealing.

My wishlist/expectations (Ape Escape removed due to reliance on Dualshock, if any others require that let me know)

Metal Gear Solid (best game of that generation full stop)
Castlevania: Symphony of the NIght (maybe one of the most influential games to indie devs, and a gorgeous hyper-polished work)
Vagrant Story (Best JRPG of that gen. No question)
Final Fantasy IX (This can be the runner up)
Final Fantasy VIII (I want it here for the soundtrack and nothing else)
Klonoa: Door to Phantomville (This holds up)
Suikoden 2 (This really holds up. Hell, it might be one of the most ambitious games of that era in design)
Spyro the Dragon (Activision will want it here)
Crash Bandicoot (Activision will want it here)
Resident Evil 2 (Capcom will want it here)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (this is a clusterfuck of rights issues that DEMANDS to be here, like with Goldeneye 007 on the N64 Classic whenever that comes)
Twisted Metal III (Dan Ryckert would want it here so sure)
Oddworld: Abe's Odysee (spelling oof)
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (ahead of its era)
Vib Ribbon (The REAL best rhythm game of the PS1. Imagine if you could put music on a USB and then play it in this. That'd be really cool)

EDIT: FUCK I forgot Silent Hill. That game's still kinda scary.

You're really underestimating just how popular the PSone was (the combined sales of the NES and SNES are just barely more than it) and how much it meant to a lot of people. I'd actually think with how popular the Crash collection has been that people would realize just how nostalgic are for that period. Yeah, you had some gamers that grew up on the NES/SNES. But the PSone was mainstream to a degree that it brought in a lot of new people who grew up with that console. They don't have nostalgia for Mario, Zelda or Metroid. They instead think of games like FF7, Crash, GT, Spyro, MGS etc. That was their childhood. And it has this

Facts.

Ok now I don't even understand what this is anymore so it does have a power cord?

You power it using the USB cable connected to any USB port. That's it. If you don't want to use that, you have to get the AC adapter. But you can power the console with what comes in the box.

Hey, that's fine, but the subject has probably come up, no exaggeration, over 100 times in this very thread.

Sorry, it's just been brought up a lot.

It's ok, I mostly skipped the talk here because I'd rather not get my hopes up with list speculation when a lot of a ps1 classic relies on 3rd party support and that can be limited in a device like this. Like snes classic was perfect except for no chrono trigger and that was probably bucuse of how they decided how many 3rd part games can be on it. I rather they just said the entire list before they put it up for pre-order.

I'm not that interested until all of the games are revealed and if there will be any regional differences in the game lists.

M

My SNES didn't come with one, had to use an old phone one.
They were supposed to, mine did iirc and I don't remember having any issues with that when I still worked at gamestop like with the 3ds. Sounds like yours was missing or someone oppened it before you and removed it. One of the worst problems with nintendo is lack of a seal on thier boxes.

You can clearly see it at 1:50.

PS1 simply put, has not aged well.

I really can't go back to staring at those graphics anymore.

I love Tekken 3, but I've always had a soft spot for Tekken 2 growing up, maybe it was the atmosphere the game had set even though the 3rd game was a major improvement overall. This is the first time since the original console release that its been brought back right? I wonder if Namco got the rights to use Gon again. Still excited nonetheless.

I hope "M" rated games like Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Tenchu aren't kept off it in an effort to have it sell it easier in stores.

MGS and any Syphon Filter for me. Best Tekken is already one there which is good. FF Tactics would be great but I think that one is a no.

When this thing is hacked, which I'm sure it will be, I've got my list ready and waiting. A mix of classics, and nostalgic favorites that may raise an eyebrow or two. Kept it to the 20 title limit until we know exactly how much space there is to work with.

Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy Tactics

Resident Evil 2

Metal Gear Solid

Xenogears

Spider-Man

Tenchu

Suikoden II

Vagrant Story

Tomb Raider 2

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

Silent Hill

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

Gundam Battle Assault 2

Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout

Mega Man Legends 2

Dino Crisis 2

Chrono Cross

Smackdown 2

I honestly don't know why Sony hasn't brought this back yet. It's so iconic, and nostalgic as fuck. I mean it's not like people completely power off their consoles all the time, they're usually on standby these days. But it would be cool as hell to be treated to an updated version of that boot screen whenever you power on the PS5.

Shit, I already preordered but now I am tempted to buy a second one to keep sealed.
Me too.
Can you still mod PlayStation TVs to run PSOne games? What are the stipulations with that.
you don't need to mod anything for a pstv. You can play ps1 games on it already.

there is a ps4 theme with the ps1 boot up sounds, and it's free I think

How come when I search PlayStation classic on amazon, it doesn't return it in the results? It just shows third party listings for the original PlayStation model.

And checking the top 100 best sellers on amazon shows it's not there yet, and anything PlayStation related usually shows up there quick.

Odd.

The gold sticker from the 1 year anniversary issue, I still have the same one on my PlayStation. I remember wanting the original yellow smiley or the Resident Evil lid sticker that came with the first two issues, but I missed out on them at the time. I was so hyped when this one showed up.

I have so many questions:

Will it support the original PS1 controllers?
Will it have an alternate version with the dualshock(2 joysticks)?
Will it run games at better framerates? 30? 60?
Will it have anti aliasing or filter options?
Will it have resolution options?
What will the memory card slots do?
Is it smaller than the PS One(re-released Playstation 1 that was tiny)?

The controllers are USB and I would expect the games to run like they did on the PS3 and Vita unless stated otherwise in the future.

I won't buy this, but why would they limit it to 20 games? I think you're going to be left with a few too many exceptions because there's just a lot more significant games to miss out on the PS1 by doing that. 30 would've been a better number and allowed them to get most of the big games as well some of the niche classics.
