So I wanted to see if there were any updates to this game after the reveal. However there hasn't been much talk after the initial reception. Thankfully I found this video from a C&C fan that sums up the current state of affairs of the game (A game I was fully willing to give a chance). The general gist (Probably to no one's surprise) is

Cons
  • Filled with Loot Boxes & Microtransactions
  • Units, Heroes, other abilities tied to Microtransactions
  • Pay to win model
  • Uneven matchmaking with whales
  • Odd Level/Ranking/Medal system (Gates what you can unlock)
Pros
  • The base gameplay itself is actually pretty fun
  • Decent Fan Service
If you have the time i'd recommend watching the video from Charlatan Wonder. Who gives the game a fair shake as best he can. The biggest disappointment seems to be that if EA Redwood would be given a chance to make a game like this without the monetization (Or just a regular C&C title). It seems like they'd do a damn good job. Sadly if Dungeon Keeper was any indication, this seems like it'll be the only use of the IP we see for the foreseeable future.

So, does everyone just do the Jim Sterling thing of having a vague outline of an idea and just acting mad about it for 16 minutes?

Like, I need a point.

I'd watch the video if possible. It's a pretty fair critique on the current state of the game.
I had to make the title myself since this is a smaller channel and the video itself doesn't have a name that'd work well as a thread title.
The guy is a pretty big C&C fan and tried to be optimistic. As stated in the OP there is good there, but its bogged down by the model that surrounds it.

So it went as expected, sadly.
Being a fan of the regular games make it hurts more, just like what happened to Dungeon Keepers.

This is actually a really fun mobile strategy game but the lootbox based gating did ruin it somewhat for me.

This isn't a post defending EA or this game, but just out of curiosity is there even a template for a f2p strategy game that's going to have balanced PVP?

He couldn't believe he had to "unironically" use the word problematic.

Sounds like a great guy. A "real" gamer.

I actually personally know the people who worked on this project. It wasn't evil EA directing loving developers.. the developers did this themselves.

We'll have to escape to the one place that has not been corrupted by microtransactions.

I think I have to believe that this is the worst managed franchise in gaming currently.

I think not getting any releases is better than becoming mobile game trash.

Huge fan of C&C and fuck if they know anything about what to do with it, god dammit.

Thank fuck for OpenRA and the originals being so good in a way it least it doesn't matter as much. But oh the potential, the potential!
