I just got my first ever warning on ERA for a harmless, obvious joke in this thread. I think everyone just needs to chill lol. But I guess I earned my first battle scar.

As someone that always chose Sony over Microsoft, I think I side with Xbox on this issue.

I've already stated that that's a common trick for the propagation of misleading information, mirrored by gutter tabloids (in the UK, at least) and dubious politicians etc as well as your favourite console manufacturers and, in fact, anyone trying to sell you something. The vast majority won't click on the link in the following tweet, just as most people don't bother to read small-print, and most people don't bother to read clarifications printed in tiny corners on misleading newspaper stories. People see the headline, the idea (accurate or not) nestles in the mind, and then they scroll onto the next thing shouting 'look at me'. Marketeers are all too aware of this and use it to their advantage to shape perception.

Champion MS all you want because BC is just so damned wonderful or whatever, but don't tell me how they've formatted that tweet and it's subsequent clarification isn't painstakingly considered because it absolutely is.

If you doubt what I'm saying, ask yourself why they didn't include the link that provides clarification in the original tweet? It wasn't an oversight.

Right. It's a conspiracy. In a simple tweet. Because you say so. lol

And I never once mentioned any praise at all for MS or their BC. You are showing your hand.

Well they're not wrong.

Lord knows why Sony and Nintendo don't just flood the market with Classic Playstation and Nintendo games, Id say cos money, but theyre trickling old games so slowly and x developer may, probably maybe re-release a game when we're all ancient mummies in the year 2300

BC would be nice, but we all know there's a market for these things regardless.

I'll stick with my Pi3 for PS1 either way.

I've been really impressed at how well PSX performs on the B+. I actually did full playthroughs of Tekken 3 (earned all unlocks) and Um Jammer Lammy just this past weekend, and put a couple hours each into Wipeout XL and Doom. There's no question a little box like this (be it the PS Classic or a Pi) has tons of draw as a standalone.

Do you have access to get the PSP PS1 bios? It runs even better.

User Warned: System Wars
I don't understand why MS is so insecure when it comes to PS. Don't recall Sony issuing statements on every move MS makes.

Maybe if MS engineered better hardware at a affordable price and invested in their first party companies they bought out instead of sinking them, they wouldn't feel the need to defend themselves all the time.

In addition to this, Rare Replay is available at most places for around $10. Insane amount of value compared to the classic consoles.
And they gave it away for free to everyone who watched last years e3 on Mixer lol. But techinacally you had to own a device to watch Mixer on, so I guess it wasnt really free.

Xbox's backwards compatibility is great, but god what a stupid statement to make. It's not free if you have to buy the game first.

Was avg Joe dropped on his head when he was a baby?

Avg Joe sees "for free" and assumes it means exactly what it says, free, as in not requiring you to pay for it. Not that it means free only if you've already paid money for said game the past or have the physical disc still, which is jumping to a conclusion that they'd have no context or reason to know about if they aren't a gamer or know about the xbox and BC.

Crap, no. I made a dump from a standard PSX system for myself years back when someone in my circle ended up with the carrier cable. That's what I've been using in general when I emulate. The process was really cool to do, but I'm not familiar with how it would work from a PSP. Thanks for the heads up!

You know, since the whole used game thing, I don't Sony has "taunted" MS since then. However, ever since BC for MS, they've been doing it constantly.

The tweet says '500 games free'

So unless you already own all 500 games then please stop saying This statement is correct. It's not free if you have to buy it.

Amazing the mental gymnastics people engage in to defend their favourite brand
Common sense says you'd have to own the games to be able to play them.

The mental gymnastics in this thread are on the people saying there's anything wrong with the tweet. It's just Microsoft promoting one of their best features.

Yeah I mean that whole video with Shu and Boyes was mildly funny at the time but that was like 5 years ago, and they really haven't taken jabs since, that I can recall at least.

Oh it wasn't the best, I don't disagree with that, but you weren't forced to pay to transfer them and it was a better solution than what Sony or Microsoft, at the time, were offering, which was nothing

Well, they emulated the Wii. So in a way you weren't paying cause it was an official emulator.
The problem is that Nintendo keeps making new account systems, and they probably put a pay wall in place to try and get something back out of developing a transfer system.

Should have just gone with 1 static Nintendo account by now (like the Nintendo ID on their website).

Lol

This thread will be funny when ps classic will sell bigly.

I don't think anyone expects otherwise? Most of the thread is about the wording MS used and the importance of BC to particular users. I like BC but don't own an XB1. I own a PS4 and wish it had BC. Neither of those statements have anything to do with how I think the PS Classic will sell. Spoiler alert: It's going to sell out several times and go on to top the NPD chart.

It's blatant false advertising. Conflating a miniature retro collectable pre loaded with 20 classic games for 100 dollars to simple backwards compatibility is.....disingenuous at best. Promote your feature but don't pretend to offer 'free' games lol

My hand? Oh right, because I'm a top secret console warrior. Sure thing.

But seeing as we're talking about things never mentioned, I never used the word 'conspiracy' nor intimated as such but, you know, enjoy your snark.

Promoting a feature your product already has when a competitor comes up with their own implementation isnt console wars, its basic marketing. Come on.

Different threads attract different fanboys though, isn't that how it always goes?
To be honest though i've never seen any fanboys that are more toxic than the likes of crapgamer and tim dog etc.

Yeah that's the way it goes but how bad it gets is hardly consistent. You will see the red mod edit in the OP more often in threads focused on Xbox or Nintendo topics. Look at this thread and the PS classic announcement thread as examples. There is not a single troll comment in the first page of the PS classic announcement but the first page of this thread, a thread over an innocent silly tweet, is fucking embarrassing. I would prefer every thread to go like the classic thread, but we see Xbox and Nintendo threads go to shit like we see here. So yeah, every camp has a number of fanboys, but the amount of members and how destructive they tend to be is not the same at all.

I do agree that crapgamer is a cancer to gaming too. Can't stand him but there are plenty that are as bad as him on all sides. I wouldn't call Tim Dog toxic though. Biased? Hell yeah, but he's no worse than some of the other characters I don't agree with.

User Banned (3 Days): Continued pattern of system warring; previous infractions
MS just salty that Sony refuses to allow them to siphon off their online userbase by allowing crossplay with them. Had nothing to say to Nintendo about BC when they were promoting NES classic but as soon as Sony does their own classic console they got shit to say...pathetic.

To quote The Joker: Very poor choice of words. Could have wrote: "Play Hundreds of classic titles on your Xbox One for only $10." Wouldn't be "Totally for Free" but that's literally the next best thing if you wanted to showcase the value of the game pass.

I love BC. That's great. But I am being completely honest in saying that that is NOT what I thought this was about when I read the headline.

I get what they're doing, but it's a kind of misleading thing to say. I can't play 500 Xbox games for free. Heck, I only have like three or four Xbox games still, and I don't even know if they're compatible with XB1.

I got excited when I read the tweet. They should have said "Play 500+ of your Xbox and Xbox 360 games on the XB1 at no extra cost!"
