Awesome, nice to see Sony jumping on this too. Personally, I don't think I'd go for a PlayStation Classic but I'd be all in on a PlayStation 2 Classic. I'd imagine they're bound to make one because this should be a huge hit

This is cool, but only as a novelty item. I already own a PSTV and have purchased most of these games via PSN. This is locked to 20 games and has wired controllers. So I probably won't run out to buy this.

The PlayStation was the console for an entire generation

It was the first console that really blew up in Europe

It took gaming from a kids toy to something for adults as well

It was the best selling console of all time before the ps2

Claiming it's not a classic is like when people said no one cared about Crash Bandicoot which sales have proven to be complete bollocks.

Did the NES and SNES classic open pre-orders before we knew the full game lineup? It feels kinda crappy knowing I might miss out on this just because I don't want to spend £90 on 15 unknown games atm. Shouldn't have opened pre-orders before we had the full lineup.

Yeah, that's kind of silly point to make. At this point, just as many kids and teens have grown up with PlayStation as Nintendo. The numbers are too damn high for that to not be the case

Not interested personally as I don't really have any nostalgia for PS1, but looks pretty good - Some nice big hitters like FF7, RR4 and Tekken 3, nice of them to include the later iterations rather than going with Tekken 1 for example.

I'm quickly learning that people hate the idea of others having fun. It's a great idea. It's flawed, for sure. They could have don a lot more with it, but it's a good package, & depending on the rest of the lineup, it can be a great package.

I'm detecting level-headedness and positivity in your post. Ain't nobody got time for that, get out of this thread man.

Yes, which makes this very strange.

I'll definitely be cancelling if the line-up sucks or if it includes a lot of games that play noticeably better with analog.

This could be an awesome Christmas gift.

Shame that it won't have a DualShock controller. It seems like Ape Escape is a no go, which makes me sad because I loved that game. Looking forward for news what games they will have. Crash Team Racing, Bloody Roar, Silent Hill, Medal of Honor, Tony Hawk, Tomb Raider, or original Spider-Man games would be a must haves for me! Will wait for a full line-up before I make my mind.

Btw. Limiting a console to only pre-loaded games seems like a waste. They should do an integrated store with new games as well. People would lose their shit if PSX Classic had an ongoing support with new re-releases.

Hahaha I was just being a dick there.

But seriously I don't hear anyone talking about any Playstation games the way people do Smash, Kart and Goldeneye.

Uhuh .... because no one talks fondly about
Metal gear solid , silent hill , crash bandicoot, tomb raider , tekken , spyro ....

Agendas make me laugh so much

Honestly? Probably not, but Nintendo will use that word anyway because it's just the branding at this point.

And nah I won't tell you because I'm not sure how you'll use it against me lmao. Let's just say I was old enough to own an NES and get an SNES at launch.
No worries, I only ask cause I was thinking that maybe that had something to do with it. I was born in 1990 and have a ridiculous amount of nostalgia for the PS1 and the N64. I played the SNES/Genisis before that but the 5th generation was when I really became a gamer.

Not in the same way, man. You have to admit that lol. You hear chicks at bars and frat dudes telling they'll beat eachother at Mario Kart 64 and shit. You see Kijiji commercials where people get an N64 and are playing 4 players.

No one is saying "yeah let's go back to my dorm and play some Tekken"

hopefully it's easy to just walk into a store and purchase one. Unlike the debacle of trying to get a NES/SNES Classic.

Sometimes I get the feeling that a lot of Nintendo fans are also classic game fans that routinely like and play old games and genres (e.g. platformers and shmups), but only a small number of PlayStation fans are the same.

Even here, there are a pretty good number of people saying how ugly PS1 games are and how they'll never want to revisit them, while an N64 Classic is often clamored for. This isn't a complaint, BTW (I mean, you like what you like), but it just makes me wonder how well a PS1 Classic is ultimately going to do.

As for me... Parappa and Um Jammer Lammy = absolute instant buy. Throw in Einhander and Omega Boost, and I'll be the happiest ever. I don't think any of those use analog (except UJL which supports it for something very small and useless).

Never cared about these classics, but good for the people who care. The amount of embarrassing posts in here is fucking pathetic tho.

Just like NO ONE REALLY ever liked or remembers Crash Bandicoot! /remake outsells every platformer on the market not named Mario

People who act like there's zero nostalgia or timeless qualities to the PS1's library are so exasperating, geez. It's fine to prefer Nintendo's output but not everyone grew up in the Nintendo bubble. And to act like games like Final Fantasy VII weren't important is ridiculous. FFVI was a blip on the radar in comparison.

Lol okay, I'm '91.

I definitely have some, but more for the N64 (even if I can admit it probably overall had a lesser output than the PS1). Like I've said to others here, people can argue quality of games all day, but it's undeniable that a wider range of people (at least where I'm from) are more nostalgic for the N64.

I probably still wouldn't call the N64 "classic" though, at least not yet, or maybe ever. But like I said to someone else, Nintendo will use that branding too because it IS their branding for these products. I think it's weird that Playstation used the same word as Nintendo and used that word at all, but I'm realizing after being refuted here that I'm probably just wrong.

S'all good.

You clearly hang around in some sheltered Nintendo only zones

The PlayStation 1 outsold the SNES and nes combined worldwide , and decimated the n64 its most people born after 1990,s first home console by a easy 70 million units

Considerably more people played and owned a PlayStation.

The ps2 went on the be a even bigger success

It's not hard reading your post history to see a agenda being pushed, not only is it ridiculous but frankly you are talking from a perspective of complete ignorance to one of if the the biggest gaming system to have existed

ps1 is my favourite console of all time, but this is kinda lame since ps4 should have had proper bc from the beginning

I feel like every 10-20 posts in this thread we've seen someone try and make the USB power into an issue.
Yeah... :/

I am holding the AC Adapter for my SNES Classic Mini right now?????
If I'm not mistaken, only the NA version of SNES Classic included a power adapter, whereas EU and JP versions didn't. Neogeo mini (both Japan and International versions) also didn't include a power adapter.

The real megaton is that Tekken 3 is on this thing, thought that game would never be re-released because of licensing issues. Stupid Gon.

Nah that one definitely is, I was mainly referring to the console in general.

I'd just never look back at my Playstation and say "damn that's a classic" lol. Maybe I just don't think it's old enough or something.
It'll be 25 years old next year.

It's definitely in classic territory by now. I think you may just don't want to feel old like the rest of us!

I don't need this but I pre-ordered anyway. Easier to change my mind and cancel versus scrambling to find one closer to the holiday season.

I can't think of any list of games they could put on this thing that would make me want to spend $100. I can play the Mega Man X games on the MMX collection, I can play FF7 and 9 via modern console ports, a Castlevania SotN re-release just got leaked, the Crash trilogy exists on modern consoles and soon Spyro will too. Sure, there are other good games they can add to this that haven't been re-released recently, but I don't think I can justify $100 for me personally when I know I'd only spend like half an hour with each.

But can you buy the controllers separately? I'd love a pair for my Pi. Unfortunately, I'm guessing you can't since the console already comes with two, meaning people who buy the console would have no need to buy more. Damn.
