Street Fighter II series was great.

Street Fighter Alpha series was great.

Street Fighter III series was great.

Street Fighter IV series was great.

Street Fighter V is great.

27 years and counting. Street Fighter 1 is the only dated game with no update to make it better and even that was great for its time. So 31 years and counting really.

Lots of duds in there, without even stating my personal opinions about IV being crap as a whole.

Rest assure. I love every titles I have played (from Radiant Dawn to the 3 GBA titles and the 3 3DS games).

Agreed.
I have a hard time understanding the divide and anger, but well...

I don't really like Fates, not only because of the character design, but the "voice acting" and story are worse than ever. I was super hyped due to the setup.

GTA3
GTA:VC
GTA:SA
GTA4
GTA5

That's about the best run I can think of. And that's probably owed to a great deal of restraint with the release schedule. Rockstar has been careful not to burn the series out.

Super Mario series:

Super Mario Bros 1-2jp-2-3
Super Mario Land 1-2
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
New Super Mario Bros 1-Wii-2-U.
Super Mario Galaxy 1-2
Super Mario 3D Land-World
Super Mario Odyssey.

Incredible games with just a few games that I would classify as "Just great" in that list (SMB2, SML and NSMB2 to be precise). 33 straight years of quality.

Regarding Fates, the story is bad, but the gameplay... damn, it's surreal. So it's still a great game for me.

By voice acting, are you referring to the EN dub? I have both the localized and JP version, and I agree the EN dub is so inferior compared with the original.

Its Final Fantasy, going by critic review consensus or metacritic. Only 13 is a misstep and even that scored well, and 14 was fixed with Realm Reborn. Could be said the streak is still running. 30 years...not too shabby.

Excuse me, the fifteenth and sixteenth Touhou games have been out for quite a while, and predictably, they're both great. Yeah, Touhou probably wins this contest here.

I'd give second place to Etrian Odyssey -- six mainline games plus two remakes, all of which have been very good.
Woops, my bad! For some reason I keep thinking HSIFS is 14.
Also yep EO is mad consistent!! Good pick!!!

Dragon Quest, haven't played X or XI, but everything from the 1st one to the 8th entry was gold. It also has some great spin-offs like Monsters, Rocket-Slime and Torneko's Dungeon

<- Halo

Halo CE, 2,3,ODST and Reach had both memorable Campaigns AND Multiplayer offerings.
Then Halo 4 had probably the best Campaign of the entire franchise (but the lesser Multiplayer) while Halo 5 had the best Multiplayer (but with the lesser Campaign)

The most solid modern franchise overall for me.

Yes, the English dub is absolutely horrendous. It's mostly voices iirc. I finished Hoshido path, stopped Nohr after 75% and didn't touch Revelations...

XI is absolutely phenomenal. I am currently playing it (close to 65h so far). It's high up in my GOTY list.

Smash Bros. has only had 4 games so far (5 if you count 3DS and Wii U separately), and there hasn't been a single bad game in the series. They're all excellent multi-player games.

There's never been a bad Kirby game either. Maybe some that are average at worst, but mostly good or great overall.

It's low-key Tony Hawk

Metacritic Scores:
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 [1999] = 92
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 [2000] = 98 (Highest rated PSX game of all time)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 [2001] = 97 (Tied with GTA3 as highest rated PS2 game of all time)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 [2002] = 94
Tony Hawk's Underground [2003] = 90

It dropped off with Underground 2 (82 MC), but Neversoft had half a decade of back to back 90+ releases, some of which were the highest rated games on their respective consoles.

EDIT: Not really "mainline", but worth noting that Pro Skater 2 is also the highest rated GBA game of all time with 95 on MC.

Nice pick, but in fairness back in those days every half-decent game scored a 90+

You'd only know a game was really good if it scored like a 9.9 on the likes of IGN and Gamespot, if it 'just' managed a 9.0 then it was only alright, not great.

To me, even the "bad" Mario and Zelda games like Phantom Hourglass or New Super Mario Bros. 2 are only bad relative to their own series, and are still great games in their own right.

Really depends on how you look at it. Sure, there have been installments in each SF sub-series that are rendered obsolete. There's no reason to play SSF2 when you got Hyper Fighting and Super Turbo, for example. But SFII was a GAAS series long before GAAS was a thing. Without SSF2 introducing the four new challengers, we don't get ST. Without the vanilla versions of Alpha, III, IV, and V, we don't get the updates. The games were meant to evolve, so I don't think an underwhelming installment is a knock on the overall consistency.

If any of the SF subseries ended without a lasting classic, I would agree with your argument. But each time out SF has eventually found that magic, and sometimes multiple versions of magic (HF and ST, A2 and A3). They shouldn't be penalized for not giving up on games and continuing to develop them over years. They earned their greatness streak through iteration.

Ratchet & Clank
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Ratchet: Deadlocked
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus
Ratchet & Clank
This was what I thought of as well. I would say it ends after a Crack in Time, though, as the spinoffs after it, All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault, are at best good games. There's also the two PSP spinoffs bt another developer around the time of Tools of Destruction. I think they maintained the quality level though, so it doesn't end the streak in my opinion.
