If there's a CRT filter and save states, I'm in.

If not, I'm out.

Would be great if you could add ISOs as well. Might as well copy the Nintendo Classics all the way. :-)

FFVII won't be the only Square game on this list. Let's be realistic here. PS1's library is practically made up of Squaresoft. I expect the other FFs and FF Tactics among other games.

VIII's remaster might be having a problem but they have no problem putting the original to PSN via PSP/PSN/PS3. Would explain why they were holding it back. To make it exclusive to this console for the time being so I could easily see the original PS1 FFVIII on this just like FFVII is the original PS1 version.

Yes and no.

I think, on the whole, more PS1 games hold up better than the N64 library as there is a greater focus on both 2D games and high frame-rate 3D games.

The games that try to deliver full 3D environments on PS1? Yeah, those are often hideous, but those that use 3D in other ways can hold up really well.

iS Internal Section, Einhander, Tobal 2, Klonoa and the like all keep the camera away from the polygons while running at 60fps. They look really great in motion still today. That's not even getting into the 2D games. I think there are ~110-120 3D 60fps games on PS1 and that goes up to 250+ if you bring in 2D games.

On N64, the number of 60fps games in total is below 10. I think that makes a huge difference.

For big open 3D environments, though, N64 has a HUGE advantage over PS1.

I wonder if there is a way for an Nintendo 64 classic to run the 3D games at 60fps, I mean, emulators can do this unless I'm mistaken, so that could go a long way towards getting over that hurdle

To the person who's not played OoT since the late 90s, they probably won't even realise the framerate was so bad before

Yeah they are certainly riding the wave of retro console revivals that Nintendo started, I just took issue with people getting upset that they copied Nintendo by adding 'classic' to the end of a classic product, as if they were somehow obligated to call it something else to appease grown men who are emotionally invested in a rival corporation
It's not just the "Classic" branding though:

Was PSOne GT ever on the PSN store or anything? On the licensing front, I do wonder what will be excluded because of music licensing restrictions...
The lack of GT would be very very problematic, it's PS1 best selling game (and overall the second best selling game that generation behind Super Mario 64).
It would be the equivalent of GoldenEye missing on an eventual N64 mini.

I did specify 3D instead of 2D or 2.5D there but, yeah, if you look at that way then the overall libraries have aged better in some areas and worse in others. I'd never argue that Goldeneye has aged well at all but stuff like Super Mario 64, Star Fox 64 and F-Zero X have all aged brilliantly. In terms of what we can expect on this console though I don't really think there are going to be too many of those 2D/2.5D games you talk about, but that's purely a prediction based on what kinds of games would be most wanted for a release like this.

That is way too expensive.

The PS1 and 2 are my favorite systems of all time, but 20 games and 100 bucks for an iffy lineup (so far) isn't that appetizing.

It so really bothers me that they are doing this without having them available on the PS4

Surprise surprise :P
Nostalgia sells. I personally rather like to have my games accessible on one console though.

I'm curious as to how much this will sell I mean it's the OG which setup the ps2

From what I understand, it's not a good version of the game. Though I feel load times could be reduced, DS version is still the best way to play it, with SNES being the "classic" way to play it. I do want this game on my Switch, but I wouldn't mind if they ported it to something like PS1 classic.
You can forget about it. They're not wasting one of the 20 game slots on a mediocre PS1 port of a SNES game.

Would be so sick if Nintendo announced the N64 Classic tonight as well. Harken back to the 5th gen console battle.

They would probably have to do extra work on the games to do that, which kinda defeats the purpose of these devices. If you bump up the frame rate on OoT for example the game movement and a bunch of other things go wonky.

I'm confused, why do people want this over BC on PS4? If I wanted another console under the TV to play PSX games I'd....put a PSX there? Buying this just strengthens Nintendo and now Sony's decision to do this instead of BC on their consoles. That's not cool
:( it's true but it's inevitable now. Ideally we could have both options, but I guess that won't be happening anytime soon

Honestly, music licensing is the least of the issues of re-releasing the game. Consider having to get licenses for all the vehicles and brands in game and it's easy to see why the game will most likely never be re-released.

I don't have anything against things like this existing, but I hate that I can't just play all these from the PS4/Switch online store.
