You know what else plays all your favorite PS1 games and is just about as small as a psOne? PS2 Slim

1478.jpg
Except that would mean dealing with physical games in 2018, hunting down discs and controllers and memory cards in decent conditions, messing with ancient cables instead of standard HDMI, losing useful features like suspend, dealing with those old terrible loading times...

I really don't see how this kind of post is constructive dude. It's like somebody being excited about a new desk and going "ugh why didn't you just chop up a tree and made yourself a better, sturdier desk with real wood".

I love the original PS but a lot of the games have aged horribly. So I don't see me getting this.

I'm excited for this. I think the classic system would have been even more expensive with not one but two dual shock controllers with rumble. Sony is trying to test the retro classic market and I'm sure they had to cut some things in order to keep the price right at $100. And hopefully the system will have an option to smooth out those graphics.

I was sure, that it is some kind of a joke when I clicked on this thread. Wow, Sony! Really? You too want to cash in on this nostalgia epidemic. I'm not mad, I'm disappointed

Is this a potential sign Sony won't offer BC for ps5? Seems these companies are constantly thinking up ways to resell us our old games instead of letting us play them.

I mean I love the idea of the classic but I'd like BC too more.

Yeah we are in the nostalgia era because we realized how much the world sucks now and we want to "come back". Picked up the NES Classic, skipped SNES , will wait for more info before pre ordering this one. Thankfully in Italy is easier to buy these products.
Yep. Generally speaking nostalgia and retroism thrives in times of recession so that's true. Not that we're in any kind of gaming recession now. It's just interesting the link between nostalgia and escapism.

Seems a bit strange that they wouldn't use the Dualshock controller for it. That limits the games that they can use. No Ape Escape, for example.

The cynic in me wonders if they're deliberately holding back on a lot of classics for a V2 reissue late next year. "Back by popular demand" type thing, but this time with a dual analogue controller and a bunch of games thar make better use of it like Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Ape Escape, etc. Plus having Tekken 1 but not Tekken 3 makes me immediately suspicious.

Anyway, the thing looks nice but it's probably not for me unless I come into a lot of money and want it for nostalgic/collection purposes.

Initial reaction was positive, but after thinking about the specs and the kind of games from that era, I'll just stick with my PS3 and PS2. They really could have one upped Nintendo by having an actual CD tray and legit original controllers.

Still a good device for those gamers who never experienced PSX gaming.

Please have FFVIII, it's the only PlayStation FF game I haven't played yet.

Also please have Metal Gear Solid. Still haven't played the original.

LMAO they just couldn't help themselves.

Most PS1 games did not age well gameplay wise so I don't think this is going to be as big as the other "classic" consoles they're copying.

It's not about games needing it, it's more a case of it being a better controller. Movement may be restricted to 8 directions, but I still prefer to use an analogue stick. Plus rumble.
I wouldn't debate that just seems like based on the reactions that some think the DualShock was the standard. The compatibility list is not very long and the list of games that required it was even shorter.

I remember as a 12 year old being bummed at how little use I got out of it because it was something I bought myself.

LOLOLOOOLOLOL Wow.

The NIntendo fans might have a point to call copycat here.

Anyway, 3D has little nostalgia factor for me, so it's a maybe.

What does it say about the hobby when soon the top 2 selling unit consoles might be retro $99 gimmicks?? Assuming SNES/NES mini and this might be 1-2 in units in NPD...

You mean like how Nintendo copies Sony all the time too :)

Every company "copies" everyone. Stop with this console warring shit. It's just smart business.

This.

Yes, the Nintendo classics absolutely inspired this. But honestly, why be mad about that? Nintendo wasn't the first to do this and it's great to see some appreciation from Sony towards their own legacy.

Enough corporate tribalism. Either laugh at the situation or calm down.

They're not going to release a revision of this next year with Dualshocks. Come on guys. They're going to move on to PS2 Classic.

Great for collectors, it definitely looks very cute. Not my cup of tea though, trying to reduce clutter around the house.
No matter which 20 games they choose they'll be lambasted lol, that's for sure.

Guessing Sony will wait until Nintendo release the N64 Mini with an analogue controller before they bring out their own. ;)

Anyway, I'll still be buying. Really hope a couple of the Resident Evil titles will be on here with MGS as well.

Yep. I definitely think the lack of PS1 games on PS4 is because they wanted to juice sales of a collector's item 5 years in the future. Totally.
No, it isn't. It's because they literally didn't believe people would want to buy them on PS4: https://www.vg247.com/2017/06/05/wh...sonys-jim-ryan-about-backwards-compatibility/

Now, they have seemingly found what they believe to be a more profitable avenue for the games, so I don't expect we'll ever see PS1 games on an actual PlayStation Console ever again. This is why people like me are upset. They said for years they wouldn't being old games to PS4 because we wouldn't buy them, and now they're bringing old games because suddenly they believe people will buy them... Just not on PS4. The whole thing is an outrage.

Why didn't they just do a classic bundle with the ps TV when it launched? Same thing but you get access tons more games after.

Still cool idea.

Why aren't people making a bigger deal about an AC adapter not being included? Is that not widely known yet or do people just not care?

I feel like it's just as bad as the 3DS not including one, maybe even worse.

EDIT: Stop quoting, I didn't know you could use any typical USB adapter. It may not be worse than a 3DS since that's proprietary, but it's equally as lame.

Sure, none of the mini consoles will surpass running these games on original hardware through a Framemeister but I'll still buy them if the emulation is solid. Also, it's still a much cheaper alternative and a lot easier to setup and use.
