Shame, but unsurprising. The last few years have been pretty rough for the Vancouver dev scene.

Hate to see this. When I see studios close Inhave to think the majority of it is due to poor leadership/management.

Shame, but seemed the writing was on the wall after them getting a bunch stuff canned. They were given a poison chalice with the Dead Rising I.P, don't think many studios can save that franchise, especially so at this point.
Wish them all well.

After the story about Capcom shutting down all of their games in development I had a feeling this was about to happen. This sucks to hear. I hope everyone at the team rebounds quickly

I wonder where Capcom would be today if we didn't have mobile games
I thought about this at one point since Capcom is having a hard time cracking the mobile game scene. I think capcom would be in a similar spot they are in now, and right now it seems Capcom for the most part is going in a good direction. Hopefully everyone finds jobs I hate seeing people in a bad spot due to a closing.

I hate situations like this where some Dev house has been turned into some crappy franchise factory and don't even get a chance to do anything of their own before they're shuttered. I would have liked to see something original from them.

This might be a stupid question, but with the shutdown of Capcom Vancouver, will it effect the online servers for Dead Rising 2/OTR and Dead Rising 4?

It always makes me sad to see a BC studio close down, no matter who. Miss you, United Front Games and Rockstar Vancouver.

Poor Jawmuncher, looks like another Capcom studio will have to tackle the Dino Crisis reboot.

Hope Dead Rising continues under a new Japanese developer, this could actually be good for the franchise.

Damn Dead Rising was my favorite series last gen, it really sucks they weren't able to keep delivering and I feel for everyone on the team, hopefully they all land new jobs soon as there's clearly talent there

Fuck. Very sorry to read this.

People can say what they want about the series, and I know they do, but it has been one of my favorite series since its inception. I once a few years back found myself describing the series as a guilty pleasure of mine and now I feel guilty for even saying that. There was no reason at all I should have had to say that, yet I felt like I did. Now I just feel like it was a criminally underrated series that got shit on way too easily for no good reason. I get it might not have been certain peoples cups of teas, that is what makes the world go round, but I feel like they took shit when there was no real reason to take shit. People were way to critical of games that were clearly created for the purpose of having fun.

Perhaps that was always the problem though. Dead Rising provided straight up fun, which I feel too many people, myself included at times, have lost sight of the fact that sometimes it is in fact okay for games to be only that. Fun. Over the top. Hell, even goofy. With or without the countdown clock, with or without the sometimes wonky/clunky controls, I found something to enjoy in every release. Primarily killing hordes of zombies in the silliest ways possible. Again, they were just fucking fun to play to me.

So thank you Capcom Vancouver for creating one of my personal favorites series of the XBox era. And yes, I know it was eventually released on other consoles but I have always considered it an XBox game. I still remember playing 1 on my 360 in 2006 and just being blown away. There was nothing quite like it at the time.

Real shame.

Dead Rising 3 was a legitimately fun launch game. My favourite Dead Rising game.

Many of the team are ex-MS, I'd love for this team to be scooped up together if possible. If not, as long as everyone lands somewhere.

Dead Rising 5.
Knights of Aegis was shelved at the first reduction.
Dino Crisis was offered but they never took it as their next game.
I never heard anything about Lost Planet being a thing outside that pitch.

Always sad to see these kind of things happening. It's the risk that comes with working at overseas branch I guess, you're always at the mercy of the parent studio.
I come to work everyday wary of this happening to our studio too lol :/

Hope the people can bounce back and get another opportunities.

Dead Rising 1 was the best one and made in house. After that Capcom and many other studios became obsessed with western design, during the height of the 360 popularity. I always thought it was a dumb move, stick to what you're good at. Capcom is doing that right now, and you can't say they made bad choices lately. MH and RE7 were fantastic, DMCV, REmake 2 and MM11 look excellent.

It makes sense from a business perspective but its sad for the employees. Hope it all ends up well.

Seems like the idea that they were going to become a Dead Rising studio after we just heard of cancelled projects wasn't in the cards.

Dead Rising 4 must have been a huge bomba for them to consider the elimination of the entire studio.

Got it. Crazy that they didn't take a stab at Dino Crisis but hopefully that means RE2 team/tech can. I really hope Lost Planet 4 wasn't just a pitch and is something on the docket for Capcom. Either that or even just a remaster at this point of the first two. Three I guess.

Capcom IS Japanese and their best work is Japanese. Sucks those affected, but them dropping their Western initiative is a great move.
Before Capcom started working with non-Japanese developers, they and Japanese studios they outsourced to were responsible for some of the worst PC ports ever released. Resident Evil 4 is outstandingly terrible. Being excessively Japan-focused will burn Capcom in the long run. Look how they botched the Monster Hunter World PC release. It's not an encouraging sign of things to come.

What are the chances Capcom does something stupid like port Devil May Cry V to PC themselves? One can only imagine.

What? RE7 was in-house and it's really good, MHW was the first Capcom Division 3 port on PC from the MH team, they will learn eventually.
RE2 and DMC V are going to be in-house ports most likely.

Dead Rising 3 was a good game and was more enjoyable than a lot of their Japanese titles.

Are you talking about the entire Capcom portfolio lol.
Seriously dude, I mean nobody wants studio closure, but one studio cannot survive on a single franchise the doesn't sell. It's purely business.

If Capcom has to choose between expanding their japanese resource or keep Vancouver studio, I'm sure everyone will choose the former.

In case you don't know, they build their game on PC then port to console ( That's how MT Framework works, not sure about RE but I guess it would be something similar ). They have a very good engine that works fine on multiple platforms. RE4 was a bad example because it wasn't really made to be on multiple platform, they even have to re-do lots of stuff when porting to PS2, it's pre PC era.

And for what's it worth, Capcom has been cool for long time until they decide to purchase western studio and outsource lots of stuff to the west. That's Inafune era. That's when they produce lots of shits. Only when they decide to focus on in house development again then we get some cool stuff. I think they have tried, and it didn't work, and they know what's best for them. They are amking a good decision. Not bad.

Who do they close if the internal teams fuck up like apparently Capcom Vancouver did?

No, Resident Evil 4 was a SOURCENEXT job. Japanese company. Responsible for a number of older RE ports. They were also responsible for the abysmal Devil May Cry 3 PC port.

The truly great Capcom ports in recent years with sanely designed mouse and keyboard controls, FOV sliders, stuff like that -- they were largely done by a Polish company, QLOC. One exception is RE7, which was done in-house. IMO, the RE team demonstrates a high level of technical competence, far beyond the other Capcom teams.

What no, rezi4 pc was published by ubisoft=outsourced.

qloc's ports needed patching for half a year. Great ones were before that and worked fine from day one.
