It'd be hilarious if they had a new series represented and there was a new logo alongside it. People wouldn't know what to do.
They use the previously unused Rhythm Heaven logo.... and then leave it at that. It's never seen again.

sorry but you gotta cut one more to make room for the objectively best DQ Hero

I have no idea who this is but she rules. Let's put in her. Forget the others.

Look at all those Gokus!

But seriously, is there any DQ protag that goes beyond being another sword user? Any particularly interesting magical abilities? I'm not familiar with the series, so I'm curious what DQ can add to Smash in terms of playstyle.

I mean atleast there's 1 trunks in the whole bunch

If it's anything other than Animal Crossing, it means the Validated Music Rule doesn't apply to semi-clones, which is good news because we could get Skull Kid as a Zelda semi-clone or Waddle Dee as a Kirby semi-clone.
You're moving the goalposts far enough away that I need a telescope to see them. The Music Theory remains a perpetual L that I only believe in to support Wonder Red.

The 'Hero' class is generally an all rounder with access to various weapons, good physical attacks, and plenty of magic options with damage spells, buffs, healing etc.

Some games have monster taming too so you could easily have them throw out Slimes or other monster with specials.

The music is definitely gonna be the song from Isabelle's trailer right
That was a smash 4 remix iirc, in both her CG & normal trailers

Villager did have a new remix of the WW main theme, but trailer themes don't necessarily lead to being shown on the site. ie we had a delfino plaza remix in bowser jr's trailer & a luigi mansion remix in luigi's trailer, but we got a SMB3 remix on the site.

What the heck is up with non-functional trousers replacements in character designs I see recently?

Brock, don't get ahead of yourself. If it's not Animal Crossing, this invalidates the validation of the musikrool (though doesn't invalidate it itself). Don't think anyone else didn't notice.

9 is great, I've not really seen people trash on it.

6, regardless of quality (i hated it!), probably goes unremarked since it was releaesd fairly late and felt harder to find that the DS remakes of 4 & 5.

6 is pretty much just more of the same after 4 and 5 so it's really forgettable.

9 is a create an avatar handheld game and a bit of a black sheep.

Ahh, create a character explains a lot

That's interesting. At least the smaller monsters are feasible, unlike the FF7 summons, so Sakurai and co could work in something neat with them

Sakurai. Gimme Guile's theme.

I know you've had that one remixed.
You know, I do wonder how they decide which songs to post on the blog. It's not random. They've thought about it. The Vega remix is beautiful, but Guile's theme would've turned more heads. Some of the choices follow that logic of choosing popular songs: Snake Eater, Bloody Tears, BotW's main theme. Others are totally random but do show the game's depth. Then there's a remix of Yoshi's New Island's theme. Sure, it's kinda amusing that a (former) Game Freak composer is working on a new Yoshi song, but...

Are DQ6 and 9 super bad? Nobody ever talks about them.

I remember in Japan there was an interview, before IX came out, with an old woman who started playing Dragon Quest when it first came out in her 30s. She loved the series and in the interview she basically said "I want to play Dragon Quest IX before I die!". Last I heard, she seemed to love it at least, but when she played Dragon Quest X, she didn't like that fact that it wasn't made for single player.

For Yoshi, based on the song totals, that's probably Yoshi's only remix

What I'm saying is that neither Crono or K Rool are comparable to Geno. They are not cult characters. They are main characters. Crono is a main protagonist. K Rool is a main antagonist. Geno is a supporting character, which puts him on a different tier, so to speak.

I agree that Sakurai expressing interest in Geno gives him a chance, in fact, I'd argue it's the only reason he has a chance at all. Generally, I don't believe the clamor in Smash communities effects a character's chances at all. This changed slightly with the ballot, but I still believe that only has had a moderate effect. It's much more important that a character is more generally popular and/or iconic within the larger gaming community. The Smash community may have clamored for someone like K Rool, but that's not the only reason he got in. He also has just generally been a popular character despite being absent from more recent entries of DKC. The original trilogy were million selling huge hits worldwide.

Chrono is the main character, but I'm really not sure that means a whole lot since I don't think his reception would be as big as Geno's. Technically, Rosalina and Meta Knight are supporting characters, but I don't think that was really a major detractor for them. Plus, even if DKC sold lots more than SMRPG, I think Geno seems to have closely tailed K. Rool in popularity, and I'm unsure if the whole Kremling crew was significantly more popular outside of Smash than Geno. It's not an exact science, but I think the scenarios are kinda similar.

Sakurai thinking a character makes sense goes a long way - Corrin's reactions where subpar for sure, but they made it since the moveset was interesting and Fates was big news. I definitely think fan clamor and personal bias could get Geno in during a Smash Direct.

I like this fan moveset that has the idea of a spell system and, similar to Mega Man, all his normals are various Job/Vocation abilities

Very cool, I like the prospect of a DQ character a lot more now! Feels super right to have a menu-based attack system somewhere in Smash, among the other stuff DQ can do. Strongly competitive with Taranto's Slime idea.

So I got a theory/conspiracy of my own (oh god, right?).

What if the SE Rep that Verg keeps hinting at was approved late, like Sonic because Negotiations with SE were complaicafed. But Sakurai doesn't delayed the game so he put them in back burner for later as DLC. That's why he isn't too sure who it is.

Just a little fun thing to think about.

I don't mean to offend you, but this is delusion. Especially the bolded. Here on ERA, and other smash enthusiast pockets of the Internet, you might be right. For the gaming community at large, and Smash fans at large, you are way off base.

Geno's reception would be big from Smash fans. But so would Crono's, and while Crono is not Cloud level or anything, his would absolutely also be bigger to a far larger group of people than Geno.

His popularity has never even been close to someone like K Rool. Ever. Even in insular smash communities on forums like this.

Rosalina and Meta Knight aren't comparable because they're first party recurring characters who got in multiple games after the main character of their games.

This one starts off a sword user, but eventually stops using a sword as the story goes on

That's totally plausible. That and/or maybe Sakurai wants to include him as DLC to help recoup possible licensing costs.

I wonder if the delay in the Direct will just have them skip Animal Crossing entirely

We still haven't got any new Xenoblade music :)
