JRPGs generally have very high decay rates post launch. Shrug.

Interested if Mat still predicts Switch leading HW for the year given massive continued success for spiderman...

Sure.

But predictions are wrong all the time too.

Have no idea what kind of pricing will be in market for BF or Xmas week, someone goes deep discount it could swing things.

Who knows.

Interesting tidbit that the Xbox One X SKU outsells Xbox One S SKUs not only by revenue but also by units.

Correction:
I misinterpreted what was said. The Xbox One X SKU is the best selling SKU among all Xbox One SKUs available. Means the Xbox One X has not outsold the total of all Xbox One S SKUs.

Everyone get their tickets for the battle Royale of PS4 vs Switch lol.

Do we know the difference between the two?

Where?

EDIT: Oh, from the video. He said Xbox One X was the best selling SKU, but that doesn't mean it selling more than XB1S (XB1S has many SKUs)

Also, with Mat still predicting Switch still as number 1 HW for the year, big contrast with Michael Pachter's expectations. A short while ago he made his "trending to 8 million" comment and most recent pach attack (may still be siftd time-locked) a couple days ago he re-affirmed he also doesnt think Nintendo is tracking well and will not make the 20 million.

He's reasoning being that is "nintendo is expecting to sell 6-8 million units based on pokemon LG and why would a pokemon go player spend $300 plus another $60 on a game when they have the mobile game for free". No mention of other games like smash or NSMBU (same fiscal year right?)

Good to see many PS4 exclusives among the top 10. Next month we can add Spidey, and later on Days Gone, TLOU2, Death Stranding and GoT.

Near future looks bright. Hopefully Sony doubles down on that same approach and philosophy next gen.

Wow @ Octopath.

How the hell do you go from #1 to not even charting the next month.

Persona was #2 in April 2017 (Only behind Mario Kart Deluxe, which octopath didn't have to deal with something of that magnitude)

Persona 5 didn't rank in the top 20 in May 2017.
It didn't even rank in the top 10 of Playstation game.

Welcome to JRPGs.
(Since we'll probably get this question like 10 more times.)

well they are starving.

This is true.

It's a JRPG. For reference the most recent and comparable example would be Persona 5 which launched at #2 (only because MK8D launched) in April 2017 and in May 2017 it was out of the top 20.

Genre has zero legs. Maybe if they added multiplayer or had a DLC path laid out the legs would be better

Backwards compatibility is the fucking best. Sony and Nintendo need to ensure PS5 and Switch 2 play their predecessor's games.

Xbox One X reportedly outsold the One S in August too, which is pretty big. Surely people aren't still upgrading?

The thing I am most impressed is that the PS4 is still posting (it seems) YoY increase even after almost 5 years in the market. And something tells me next month will be big too.

The mid gen upgrades have definitely been a success for both platform holders. I'm sure Nintendo is looking at that as well.

A lot closer than I expected. Healthy competition there all round.

I expect PS4 to take the crown in September, Spider-Man is a system seller and will move units. Things will then swing back in Switch's favour in October and Mario Party and the Fortnite bundle will be huge. PS4 will take November with BF deals and RDR2 (but it'll be close), and the pendulum swinging back to Switch for December.

does red dead have a bundle?
I could October going either way.

I'll still swing PS4 since Red Dead, Cod, and all that.
The fortnite bundle does muddie things a bit

PS4 takes October with Spider-Man train continuing and RDR2.

Switch will take November and December easily, barring a super aggressive price drop on the other two systems.

Can anybody comment on Shenmue? How did it fair? Reasonable or good for what it is considering the list is revenue?

Probably bit I'm saddened the most.

Legit was like "get outta my head".

But like people don't get single player JRPGs have 0 legs. What is the leggiest one I wonder.
outside of pokemon I'm assuming.

well recently Nier.
FFXV has been leggy despite overshipping in Japan.

Mario rpgs are supposed to be leggy.
maro rpgs are supposed to be a lot of things.....

Hmm yeah be interesting for november, a big part of the equation is how big a percent are sold for gifts for Dec 25 vs to play instantly. Clever of nintendo to sell the smash bundle in early november, ready for black friday deals. So smash bundles may sell despite software not available till December.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 returns to the monthly best-sellers list in August, driven by sales of the Xbox 360 version: The title was added to the Xbox One Backward Compatible Game Library on August 28th, propelling the title up to number 8 on the August best-sellers chart. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 finished July 2018 as the 321st best-selling game of the month.

RANKINGS
Physical and Full Game Digital for publishers in the Digital Leader Panel, ranked on dollar sales

When will the Switch craze ends, I expected it to slow down in August but no, it still fighting strong.
September and October PS4 should have absolutely no problems to be 1st though. November/December will be very interesting to watch for.

I dunno. Fortnite bundle makes it interesting. That'll move a ton of units. I could see switch taking October.

No matter who's in first, everyone wins. Everyone is doing great. Not only PS4 or Switch. Xbox is doing great too.
