Has an upgrade from a numbered phone to it's S counterpart the following year ever been truly worth it?

It's funny how some of these reviews just assume most people are looking to upgrade from last year's phones.

Well, it's also useful since (usually) the previous phones stay on at a lower price. So it also serves as a "would you do well by buying a previous model instead of the new thing?" For people with older phones.

Does Iphone finally have upgradable storage? I don't see why anyone would buy a phone without it.

Nope, the best smartphone is still the SE.

Fuck you, Apple. Just give me a new SE :(

Sounds like a similar-ish upgrade that the S9 was to the S8. Of course no one should be upgrading these $1200 phones every year.

No and I doubt we'll see them offer it as a feature for quite a while.
Too bad. I don't get Iphones but my wife does and because she takes so many pictures always fills it and her cloud within a couple months and then forever plays the game of deciding which pictures to delete before she can take another.

Real solution: take whatever money you would spend on an SD card and get more cloud space

Nah. They're usually just a small speed upgrade and maybe a better camera. Though this is the first time an S has came with a larger phone so it might be worth it some people.

Some people are really going to upgrade from a X to Xs? Huhh..

Edit : Or 8/8Plus

Sure. I'm on the Apple Upgrade Program, so why not? I'm probably never going to buy one of these phones outright. So if I'm always going to have a monthly phone payment anyway, I don't mind essentially resetting my contract for the newest phone. I take a shitload of pictures and videos with my phone, so the camera upgrade is worth it for me.

After next year though, I may just skip the S version and upgrade after two years.

Do you actually not want it or are you just putting up with not having it?

Its been 11 year since the first iPhone, if Apple didn't add sd card support pre-cloud era, why the fuck would they bother now?
It makes zero sense for apple to add SD card support when they are taking out 3.5mm jack for sake of "extra space"
its not a question of do I want it or not. Yes, nobody would complain about having an extra feature.I also want replaceable battery and 2 USB C ports. But at the same time I know that there is zero chance of this happening. So why waste energy asking for this year over year.

Never in the past decade have I once wished for this
I have. My first and only iphone so far is this 6. 16gb version. With the Max that's coming, I'll never worry about space again, but you better believe I felt hampered constantly with such little space.

I cheaped out y'all, I bought a 64gb xs max in silver, I wanted more storage but that price tag got me shook lol. I still feel like this gonna be a jump over my 8 plus.

Oh well just gonna up my iCloud storage.

I never ever bothered with expandable storage. I could never figure out how it was useful on Android.

I mean, if everyone asks for it wouldn't they add it?
That said based on the responses here I guess most people buying this phone don't really care which is fair I guess.

I would bet less than 5% of those who buy an iPhone even know what a SD Card slot is. Easily. I honestly would bet if they did a poll of Galaxy S/Note owners the majority of them never even stuck a sd card in the phone lol.

I want a removable battery in high end phones, but it'll never happen so its not worth complaining about.

Guilty! I never took advantage if this on my note 8. I also hardly use the S-pen but that's another story.

Emmm... I've got a launch 8+ and its still fantastic.

I'm not sold on this arbitrary commandment that all phones be bezeless. But if I must have one, I don't want a notch. Fuck a notch. It's dumb. I don't mind a slightly thicker bezel at the top... just give me that Apple because I refuse to get anything with a notch.

Dumb. Yes. Noticeable after an hour? No.

Worth it for the screen space.

Are the new camera features tied to new hardware or can/could they be activated for iPhone X too?
I mean they could if they wanted since it's just software stuff. Even the 8 plus could get it but nah fam it's a "feature" of the new phones.
I'd imagine things like better low light, better HDR and improved Portrait mode may take advantage of hardware as well as software. But there's no good reason the bokeh adjustment in Portrait mode is exclusive to the newer phones.
