Mod Edit:
There are a few additional details here: https://kotaku.com/dead-rising-studio-capcom-vancouver-shuts-down-1829143863

In a statement to Kotaku, a company rep noted that "as a result of reviewing titles in development at Capcom Vancouver, Capcom has decided to cancel the development projects at this studio and will concentrate development of major titles in Japan."
According to Capcom, 158 people will lose their jobs due to the shutdown.
The number of developers losing their jobs with this shutdown is high, though the studio has been losing people for some time. One source tells Kotaku that many Capcom Vancouver employees had been heading to EA Vancouver in recent months.

Their official PR statement

"Capcom is currently reviewing the allocation of its development resources that support the production of world-class content. Capcom has been focused on increasing the efficiency and growth of its game development operations. To support this objective, new R&D facilities and annual hiring have been underway at the Osaka headquarters. In consideration of this process, as a result of reviewing titles in development at Capcom Vancouver, Capcom has decided to cancel the development projects at this studio and will concentrate development of major titles in Japan.

"As part of this overall direction, the CV studio will suspend operations, effective today, so the current staff will be laid off and the office will be closed."

"We appreciate the hard work and contributions of all the studio team members in creating unforgettable gameplay experiences for the Dead Rising series and Puzzle Fighter"

Awful news. High-end game development in Vancouver has been decimated over the last decade. Best wishes to them all :/

The way companies can just shut down departments at a moment's notice is criminal. This is not an unforeseen event for Capcom – they should have planned better but in reality, the bean counters don't give a fuck.

Best of luck to those that lost their jobs as a result of this.

Can't say i'll personally miss their games but it's always shitty when people lose their jobs. Hope everyone lands on their feet and find new jobs quickly.

Isn't Vancouver on the rise regarding game development?

That really sucks. Frankly I was surprised a Dead Rising 5 was even being considered let alone made but I hope everyone there finds a new place.

Makes sense from a business perspective but it's horrible, as always, when people are made redundant. Hopefully they are able to work thier notice and find something else very soon.

Oof, what the hell.

Their HQ isn't too far from my parents' place. I didn't even know it was there until a few years ago.

That's really sad news :(

RIP hope my old friends find gigs soon

CV was destined to go this way the way their last 4 projects were developed.

I'll just say they got far from "a moments notice," CJ was prepped to make CV their premiere western developer

So, they're trying to revert back to Japanese development? I wonder if Monster Hunter: World's success had anything to do with it.

Vancouver is apparently not the place to be if you want to make games. This sucks. I wish Capcom would have given them a different IP to work on.

158 people will probably find places in EA, Ubisoft, BioWare, Eidos, MS or other developers in Canada.

RIP Capcom Vancouver.

That's sad. Seems like Capcom Vancouver has made 2 good Dead Rising games with 2 and 3 and then upset the fanbase with their portrayal of Frank West. They also made that mobile Puzzle Fighter game, but people really hated the art direction on that. Looked like they were following certain orders from Capcom HQ and those decisions hurt their sales and marketing. Shame, they seemed like a very talented studio.

Hope all those people land on their feet soon. Best wishes to the devs.

It sucks that they lost their way with Dead Rising, if only because DR2 and the Case spinoffs showed that they had the chops to continue along that path. They weren't hurting for raw talent, so I hope that the staff are able to find work elsewhere.

Sad to see, hope everyone lands on their feet. They were clearly a talented developer as shown with DR2.

It sucks for them, but actually, after DR4, they probably could see that coming =(

Does Microsoft have any development teams in Vancouver?

This nonsensical thinking that Microsoft can just appear like a genie out a lamp and rescue a development team needs to stop.

If i am not mistaken, the Coalition is based there

This is a bummer to hear, and I hope everyone affected is able to land on their feet without any trouble.

I am not surprised this happened at all.

That being said shutting them down with no warning is still a scum move.

Several ex-Capcom members have joined our team over the last few months, but it's never good to see large studios close in one's area. Hope everyone lands on their feet and soon.

I assumed this was happening once the projects were pulled.

Sucks for everyone that was there and I hope they are able to find new places to work.

Logical and a bit later than I expected.

Don't know if there's lots of studio in the Vancouver area.
