GOW sold 3.3 million in Week 1. and everyone is hyping that it is selling much more than that.
It has sold more in UK and Japan. (but that is just a small sample). USA numbers and the rest of Europe is also pretty important. Scandinavian countries might have bought more into GOW.
GoW sold that in 3 days not 1 week. I highly doubt Spider-Man is going to crush that number since it's really huge. Maybe 3.5-3.8 million first 3 days or 6.5-7.5 million first month (vs 5 million for GoW)
The problem is the rest of the world sales, we don't know how it's doing, I don't think Benji have access to those.
I would have loved God of War 2018 as a 10 year old kid tbh.
But yeah, Spidey is going to be a hot Christmas tree item for sure.
While that's true, if we take Japan and UK as a trend then Spidey *should* be above God of War in pretty much every region, at least in Europe. It's probably a lot closer in the US because God of War is a big IP in that region, but in Europe and Asia not as much.
When i said 30-35m life time sales everyone mocked me. That's absolutely possible .
You are way too high. The biggest a single player game like this will likely go is maybe 20m Ltd in like 2 or 3 years before the sequel is out,
We've to wait for official figures but if SM's sales momentum keeps going like this, there will absolutely be a good chance for this game to reach 30m LTD. you've my words.

But I'd be lying if I said I didn't understand why others did.

I don't know if they will unless it's performance related bonus. Usually it's the publisher in this instance Sony thay makes the money. They just pay for the development.
Realistically speaking - Spidey will have a disproportionately weighted advantage of sales in US.
While Spidey is a globally popular hero, he's also a character that I see being tremendously beloved among my US-situated circles, not unlike how Zelda is also ridiculously bigger in US.
I expect it to open in the US very big - relative to the install base difference vs UK on a population level.

plus we are in high period of spider-man awareness with homecoming being as well recieved and his rol in infinity war which is something the other recent games didn't have (quite the opposite) and the PS2 games were in a better situation and im sure they were pretty successful but the gaming market as a whole was quite different
Hell I even bought the super nice steelbook 4K/blurays of the first 5 spiderman films cuz they were so nice looking. I haven't even seen a spiderman film yet lol. I do here 1 and 2 are good though, and I'm interested in seeing the editor's cut of the 3 film and maybe the first amazing spiderman.
Yeah this is something I have been thinking about too. Sony really is going to battle for that initial lead this time. They will have multiple sequels releasing near or at launch. It's going to be insane.
While you don't want to lose out on too many sales. It's always a good look to have products in demand and create a (theoretical at least) shortage.
If they can launch all those games within the first year, next Gen will go exactly like this one.
I mean it won't be a surprise, Playstation is just too big.
Well Spider-man is funded and published by SIE so it is technically a Sony first party title. You could call it second party but I'm pretty sure that term is made up.

Yes. It's a 1st party game made by a 3rd party developer. There's no "2nd party".
Spider-Man is a Marvel IP but the game itself is Sony funded, Sony published and Sony marketed, so it's a Sony first party game.
