Makes sense. I heard Insomniac is probably going to switch engines so they can add deeper gameplay and varied terrain in Spider-Man 2. This would allow them to have more tombs and rivers to explore.

OP why do you say supporting the game? It sounds defeatist :/

They're just playing the game and streaming it as usual.

Playing and streaming it is a form of support. It create exposure to its followers, and tell other developers that they (Insomniac Games) are taking time out of their work to enjoy and appreciate their games.

No idea why people are so desperate to put down their effort.

? They are playing random games all the time.

Them: Talent recognizes talent.
You: But doesn't the time they streamed these really respected and well made games disprove that?

Huh?

You might not think it's particularly significant -- apart from being a game coming out in the midst of the same release window as their own game, it's not, though that clearly is a noteworthy factor -- but using two really respected games as an example of why the games they play on their streams aren't generally well made games they're excited to play seems odd.

IMO it's better than Rise, lot more focus on exploration/Tombs/puzzles vs the action of the previous ones, which to me is what makes it better.

The story is good to
Yeah I'm super impressed by it so far, they pretty much perfected this gaming formula, it's no doubt one of the best this year for me. Can't believe I critizised the visuals and Lara's design at one point at the reveal, the final game is sooo beautiful and Lara has never looked better, prettiest woman in gaming with quite a margin.

I like that they do this, they stream games every week I believe either from their NC office or the one in California. They put spotlights on games that have just released and those that have already released, I don't know many AAA developers that have a stream like this every week, very cool.

So maybe there's two positive points about this.

One, I didn't know Insomniac had these kind of streams and now I feel comfortable knowing I won't give a view to Twitch racists but actual game developers who actually know how shit gets done.

Two, hey they're playing a game that came out in their release window, so maybe players can dig in to TR after beating Spiderman, cool, right?

Nah, better grab a side and plant InfoWars conspiracy level shit with the "they're forced to play nice because Avengers" and ridiculous bollocks, I am a jaded cynic asshole because videogame tribalism.

I will get this one on a sale just because I want to beat the first one again, and I have yet to even play the second one lol.

Pretty cool of Insomniac btw.

Wholesome, I like it. :) The Sony devs do this a lot too, so I'm glad to see other devs supporting each other as well.

I wouldn't be surprised about game devs being actual cool people to their colleagues efforts compared with users of a video game forums who are fucking deep into goddamn brand wars or whatever.

This. The industry is small and I usually know at least one person involved with all the major games that ship.

We all respect the hard work it takes to get these products out the door and genuinely hope everyone does well because when you don't it means layoffs and studio shutdowns , which means less options and opportunities for everyone.

Hmmm.. seems like they are trying to help sell the game.

And boy, doesn't it need all the help it can get!

Jokes aside, it's a nice gesture. And I don't think it's absurd to think Insomniac actually wants to help fellow developers. The Tomb Raider reboot has been burdened with unrealistic expectations and constant doom and glooming over sales. The competition with Spiderman is going to end in a bloodbath and if the series underperforms it may go on a yatus.

a lot of people seem to be acting like dicks about tomb raider. Really strange. Why is it?
Link? Seems more that people are super defensive about Tomb Raider for whatever reason.

Pointing out 'okay' sales, sharing thoughts on the game, characters and series (good or negative) and discussing reviews isn't 'acting like dicks'.

Sure, it is a nice thing but some of you act like they were solving the world hunger.

Anyway, go buy and play the game, it is very good and imo, it is the best of the 3 newer Tr games. Feels a lot like a best of mix of the new and the old games with a focus on exploration and puzzles (so far).

Always great to see devs supporting each other. While we're busy platform warring, those are studios full of people that work in different places but clearly a lot of them know each other and worked together in the past, too, and in general there seems to be a great atmosphere between them, what with the Twitter shoutouts, the occasional hangouts and so on.

It's too bad even such a positive thread has to be shit up with "lolz the game bombed", "spoderman is better then tomb radier!!11" and "lol the op is a shill" posts, but it is what it is.

Are they? This thread is about to enter the Merriam Webster under "passive aggressive". At the end of page 1, after a pretty much uninterrupted stream of "this is so nice of them/cool/great" comments and a few "yeah they do this for a lot of games" you already have the OP complaining how these news have uncovered the negativity and bias against Tomb Raider etc etc.

Honestly I've seen a lot more TR fans (and devs, pun pun) bring up Spiderman in a negative way than the opposite. Of course nobody expected Spiderman to massacre TR at these levels, but it doesn't mean there's a "beef" between audiences.

This may be shocking news to console warriors but at the end of the day, the gaming industry is also a community.

Many developers will be veterans from many different studios and knows a rising tide lifts all boats. The only sad thing is that some people are so partisan as to think that somehow bashing other developers to help the ones you like is something studios do too.

A healthy gaming industry helps all participants and Insomniac know that, as well as other studios.

yeah, fair point. i have just seen a few harsh posts on here from people that don't seem interested in the game.

And the one who should normally support it first isn't. Where is the SOTR event in FFXV and vice versa? I don't expect them to run into licensing isseus for SOTR like with AC since SOTR is a S-E game so they won't have problems with it. Will they announce it during TGS and release it?

Yes streaming and tweeting about the game will indirectly support the game but its a harmless routine, developers of one game playing another like they regularly do. Insomniac are one of the most humble and down to earth devs in the industry imo so it'd be pretty out of character for them to suggest Tomb Raider needs their help and support to sell copies. OP is using wrong word when quoting these tweets from Ubi and Insomniac.

Some of the posts here, man. Is it that hard for people to be positive about things?

It's really cool to see that devs are supporting each other. I hope majority of the people do too.

There is literally a whole thread of people shitting on the new one and the whole reboot in general. Not complaining but after the great exodus from "the old site" and Era became the place for hot new/game scoops a lot of the toxic kiddies seeking said scoops came with it during the year. Not thread whining either as this thread made me happy... just saying.
