Into the spider-verse is gonna be such a good movie man. Hope venom is too.

Edit: Sony planned out Spider-Man launch perfectly...Infinity War Pre-Hype, Launch Hype, Venom Reminder, Then Multi-Verse Hype

So what sort of bump is possible for PS4 next month? Could we be looking at something crazy like 500K? Still looking forward to Augusts numbers but I kinda just want to skip straight to September lol.

I think it'll have the 2nd best September it has had. Don't know if it can beat its performance in September 2014.

Well I mean it's probably going to ship at least 8-10 million this year alone

I agree with that.

But you are talking about a huge game releasing on the tail end of an already successful system. I would have to think the majority of people who will end up buying Spider-Man will already own a ps4 in 2018.

Expecting it to sell another 5-7 million in 2019/2020 is a tall order.

This isn't Mario Kart 8 or Mario Odyssey here... :P

September 2015. It sold somewhere around 355K. In the same month the year before, the PS4 sold around 538K or so.

My guess this September will be around 400K-430K. Thanks to Spider-Man Bundle and Casuals buying PS4 slims for the game.

Edit: Unless Benji tells me it's selling better than Destiny, then fuck all if that's the case.

Considering how well Spider is doing, I think PS4 will break the 400k mark.
The record of september 2014 must remain intact. Different circumstances, at the time much less people already owned a PS4.

I remember reading the same argument for Uncharted 4, GoW and now Spiderman
The same argument is made for every big game released and it always is an incorrect argument.

The best way to illustrate would be with Pokemon releases... you would think the second set of Pokemon games on a system wouldn't push hardware, I mean, everyone that would buy a system for Pokemon already bought it for the first set of games! Yet the results continually prove otherwise.

The fact is that enticing, big-name software increases brand awareness and store traffic, especially when bundled, where it picks up the enthusiasts who buy multiple systems and newcomers.

I mentioned in the UK PAL thread we seem to be seeing more people jumping on PS4 over and above regular growth at this time in a generation. You see it all over social media from casuals to owners of other machines.

I'd also caution against thinking it's only casual's picking up Spider-Man two plus weeks after launch. I myself won't be picking it up until Oct/Nov. This far into the gen my backlog is too large to justify buying everything I fancy day one.

Well, the same argument applies to Uncharted 4 and GoW.

Both games sold 8-10 million in their first 8 months or so. But getting to 15-20 million in sales on the ps4 is still a tall order at this point.

Has Uncharted 4 even passed 10 million yet? Maybe, maybe not. Will we ever know? Or has Naughty Dog moved to just talking about the franchise sales as a whole now?

As long PS2 install base remains undefeated there will always be people to sell consoles to.
Not going to happen, the circumstances required for a PS2 like scenario are out of Sony's Control (tons of IP no longer exclusive, virtually Zero competition) or Sony will not want to repeat em (the Successor being a total shit show)

wherever
Spidey suffers from repetitive and dull side content but the core mechanics are so good that I'm not surprised the WOM is amazing

It just feels great to play on a fundamental level

It's kind of Nintendo-like in a way

Exactly, plus the new Bungie game came out which was supposed to be Halo on Steroids lol

That's what has made the rather mundane side-content a non-issue for me. Plus, things like the backpacks help fill in the lore, and you can snap pictures of landmarks mid-air. It's all designed to keep you in constant motion and engaged with the game's superb core mechanics.

This is ludicrous. Spider-Man could easily be bigger than both of those games especially with a pack-in. You vastly underestimate the appeal of SM when it goes on sale for 30 bucks. It's going to sell huge numbers this holiday and next year will be insane as well no doubt.

No it doesn't. The argument that people to wanted U4 or GoW already had a PS4 is false. The boost on HW sales says that it ain't truth. In the case of GoW, the boost was so high, Sony actually revised/increased their forecast.

The same can be say now for Spiderman. It seems that lots of people who didn't have a PS4, will pick one for Niche-man.

Well in your defense there were people 6 months ago saying it was going to bomb. LOL.

Nobody actually thought Spiderman was gonna bomb, right?

I did this for another reason, but I think the general logic applies to - as to why Spidey could be a major HW boost this late into a generation.

DnWRrtIU8AAjz_w.jpg

For many, many people - Spider-Man will be their first "Others" - the factor that gets them to pick up a console. It has that appeal - there are many, many, many people of whom the audience for Spidey, GoW, Uncharted, etc don't overlap in the least.

IDK probably just console wars shit but yes when I predicted 10m plus on this game easy over its lifetime I was told by multiple posters, or others insinuated in the thread, that this would never happen and there was a chance the game could bomb.

Multiple people were saying 5m max lifetime LOL.

It'll probably do 5 million in its first month. Or even faster than that :O

I knew it'd sell a lot but I didn't think it'd do as well it seems to be doing.

I wonder I wonder if th hardware spike from Spidey will have positive effect on other PS4 exclusives such as GOW, UC, HZD etc.....

My brother bought it yesterday just on word of mouth alone, he is a casual.

So safe to say Spidey will keep selling in its third week in too.

Well it's Spiderman.. it selling to the casuals is no surprise. But at this rate though? That's bloody amazing. I was thinking 10M lifetime would be a massive success :O

It's probably going to drive sales all year long for the PS4.

To be honest it's doing a little better than I thought but not much. I could see the hype a mile away for this game. It's just been too long since anyone had a quality Spidey game. Plus Insomniac.

I asked him the same. He doesn't know. He knows that Spidey moved consoles, but for what amount, better than Destiny or not, he can't tell. Btw. September 2014 for PS4 was ~550k because Destiny.
