I mean I don't think Dante will make it but really I'm Team Lucina Can Kill a Fucking Dragon and Doesn't Need Dante's Help.
I don't think the Dante rumor is real. What I do think is that legitimate leakers are using him as a dead ringer, because not only does the Belle post line up, that massive DMCV leak can't really be ignored. There's always a possibility he could make it, but I'd sooner expect him to be DLC if anything.
Me personally I stick by that the box is correct but that we still have at least one character beyond that.
The box theory is correct, but the final S-E character will placed elsewhere because they're a big enough deal.
But she can't that's literally her whole point for going back in time since the dragon in the trailer would most likely be Grima.
Dante feels like a weird character for the base roster. He seems more suited for DLC to be honest

Agreed. Her own trailer was wack for her getting clowned on, & that was against Captain Falcon, a character who I would expect to win in any other context. Everything about Robin's trailer felt gross, & Robin themselves was the only character I've ever been against getting in that actually got in. But so many of my friends were happy, so I felt bad hating on it... I definitely feel Lucina should've done more than get beaten in a fight & then fawn over Robin in that trailer, though. And I guess the Newcomers so far kind of make up for that, since I'm the only one of my friend groups that was pushing for all the current newcomers. Plus Ryu & Bayonetta being dream-tier...
That said, I still want Goku as repayment for Robin getting in. It's only fair.
It was Rathalos who by Fire Emblem standards is nothing.
Well none of the Fire Emblem characters have flash bombs so naturally he'll be harder for them.
Everyone knew Isabelle would be in the game, but guess she'd be the only newcomer revealed in that Direct is.... pretty good.
Getting a reveal to herself would basically necessitate that she wasn't an echo, which a LOT of people thought she was. I'd say most people who thought she was in thought she was an echo.
Asking because I'm legitimately curious: who could that possibly be after Cloud? A character that needs special placement on the box, globally.

What's the raw on the Falchion? Does it have any elemental damage? She already seems gimped because that's clearly an SnS sized sword but she doesn't have a shield.
Unironically? Sora could pose an issue because if Record Keeper is of any indication, anything KH related needs a blatant copyright signifier on any marketing material it shows up on, so omitting him on the sides seems potentially convenient as to not clash with the presentation.
I think we're definitely getting stages with no character attached to it for Minecraft and Rhythm Heave.
I don't think the leaker actually specified that it was Rathalos, it just mentioned "a dragon". I'm pretty sure the Rathalos thing was just our speculation.
The thing with that supposed leaked trailer is it would only succeed in pissing off a ton of Japaense fans. I don't think Sakurai would do that

The only "trick" in a trailer thus far was DDD as K.Rool, and they immediately revealed K.Rool right after so no hard feelings.

Incorporate some vets who didn't really get that into these CG trailers. Of course, Bayonetta should be a part of Dante's trailer. But why not Ganondorf? Dante could be hunting for the "demon king" and finally finds him in Smash or something lol

No it was Lucina's (Chrom's was there too). I looked it up it was the Wii U version of Monster Hunter Frontier G.
Oh god realization that if we get a MonHun stage then making Dante have his trailer with a MonHun monster to lead into said stage's announcement (and what with the DMC crossover it already had) makes too much sense what the fuck.

That actually brings up an interesting point. We have yet to see a CG trailer that has two third party characters from different companies (Ex: Sonic & Simon in the same trailer). Even with the rumored trailer description, Rathalos & Dante are both Capcom.
Seeing some of the talk about the Lucina and Robin trailer made me think.
Why was Captain Falcon even there in the arena? What kind of crime was he falsely accused of, and of which he must acquit himself from by combat?

- New LA/Primordia: I still think Elma has a good shot. Her game would've been prime to be considered for Smash Ultimate and Xenoblade in general was starting to get more attention with it's 3DS port and Xenoblade X itself. - I think the "retro rep" we'll get for Smash is finally giving R.O.B a damn stage and I looked it up and Gyromite does have some good stage material the one I think it will get this.

- I'm bandwagoning off of this because this was being discussed as I was writing down this thing however there is one aspect of this rumor and my stage choices that I think could hint at what we might get with the 5 stages.
Why not:
- Pokemon Gen 7. Simply put we already have alot of Pokemon stages in the game so I imagine it won't be on a higher priority and I think another thing against it is that it wouldn't be that easy to put in a Gen 7 stage because they'd still have to remake the assets and they're already doing that for the current Pokemon stages like Prism Tower, Unova Pokemon League, and Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2. I think we could get a Pokemon rep but I'm expecting them to have no stage. Hell that's probably why a Pokemon rep is the next likeliest rep to be announced because it doesn't need a new stage. I also think the Ultra Beasts will be in the game in a different form. I'm thinking they'll introduce the Beast Ball that will only put out Ultra Beasts and Goldeen which will act like the Assist Trophies in that they can be KO'd.
- Minecraft. I don't think it will get a stage. It wouldn't offer anything to the game other than "we have Minecraft in the game" which can still be served by a Creeper or Steve being an Assist Trophy. There isn't any Minecraft music they can use that or at least isn't any well known music they can add and Sakurai recently said that they're reducing the music that's not suitable for battle and Minecraft mostly has music that's like that. I also think a stage wouldn't be able to represent the spirit of the game well. Minecraft is either a survival game where you have to make good on your resources and building skills to survive or a creative tool that can allow you to make almost anything you want. That wouldn't be able to be translated in a Smash stage so overall I don't think we'll get a Minecraft stage.

I'm gonna guess 1-2 more unique newcomers & 1-2 more echo fighters. I'm kinda iffy on the box theory, but I don't think it's too far off given how close to the end we are.

The name of my stage selection is ease of development. They're already spending alot of time rebuilding alot of the returning stages with some Sakurai claimed took an entire year so I imagine the new stages will be built to be simple, and be multi purposed. The main reason why I think we could get these stages is because most of them are easy to make whether they're possible ports (Xenoblade X/Devil May Cry 4) or because they're based off of a 2D space which something I noticed is Ultimate has alot of and has brought back about every stage that was based off of it's original art style. That's why I think we'll finally get a Gyromite stage and Pac Man will get a new one. The exception to this is Dragon Quest but I imagine it's like Castlevania. They'll go all out with Dragon Quest in Smash and bring in as many things as they can and I think the stage itself will probably have something to do with Spirits like how Dracula's Castle has it's assets repurposed for Dracula's boss fight.

Bayonetta probably wouldn't be in the CG trailer because that means double the effort checking things off with third parties to make sure they're okay with what's depicted.
That's one thing I give credit for the guy who made up that trailer description, despite claiming to only really be a DMC fan and not into Smash or Nintendo they got a lot of subtle details right (Lucina fights a "dragon" - a main antagonist of her game - Bayonetta isn't involved likely due to logistical reasons, trailer premise isn't overcomplicated and is overall similar to previous Ultimate character trailers, Rathalos could lead into reveal of MonHun stage, etc).

Going to echo this entirely, and add that I believe that there will be a new Square newcomer in the base game.
The box theory feels right because there is no reason for the designers to perfectly arrange the character portraits for a mock-up.
