So yea, earlier today the Nintendo Versus twitter account posted a snippet from some podcast where a player verified that Squad Strike is indeed one continuous match with either 3 or 5 characters on each side. Up until today, I thought it was separate battles. Thank Sakurai that's not the case.
Each character can have multiple stocks. So, the first character can have 2 lives, while the next character can have 3, etc. I'm assuming it works that way. I don't know if the stock for each character has to be equal on both parties however.
I also don't know if Squad Strike is limited to 2 players. 4 player SS sounds crazy.

Everyone from Smash 4 sans Mii Fighters (though I'd imagine, like Smash 4, they are unlocked via making a Mii so...) + Daisy, Isabelle, Inkling. Then I have Wolf and Ridley preordered...Here's a little something. Based on the following assumptions:
What would your new starting roster look like?
- The original eight are the only starter characters (the original unlockable four are unlockable in here as well)
- amiibo can be used to unlock characters
- Upon launching the game, you immediately use whatever amiibo you own (or have preordered) to unlock the corresponding characters
Mine would look like this:
So basically ones I will have to unlock by myself: Ice Climbers, Pichu, Young Link, Snake, Simon, Richter, Chrom and King K. Rool.
Then Ken/Incineroar and whoever the SE rep is if Vergeben's right. But we're not counting the unconfirmed characters yet. I should get the Chrom amiibo (since he has one for FE:W). Charizard probably counts for Pokemon Trainer.

You don't be able to make Mii fighters until you unlock them like a regular character.
Ah got ya. It would be interesting if they're unlocked by creating a new Mii on the Switch.
