Poor Petey, why do people not like him? Poor guy was a boss in Brawl and in 3DS/Wii U wasn't even a trophy.
64: Fox - StarFox was my favourite franchise and the recently release Lylat Wars was my favourite N64 game. And he could shoot quick lasers with a gun! He was the one I immediately went for and in our group of players, Fox was my character.
Melee: Ice Climber - I had good memories of playing their old game. More than that, the two-for-one schtick sounded really awesome. I watched that trailer just for the part where they'd spin around as a duo.
Brawl: King Dedede - Actually sorta split between Dedede, Diddy and Wario, the three characters I thought should've been in Melee and made their glorious entrance in Brawl. A new heavyweight with a big mallet seemed like a real fun addition.
3DS/WiiU: Mega Man - Was my most hyped possibility since Brawl made it possible. His trailers showing off his mega buster and Robot Master attacks with the same NES sound-effects was great.
Switch: Simon Belmont - The remaining big 3rd party want. His looks/animations and attacks are just like how I imagined them. I almost just wanna strut instead of run with that character.

Petey is okay when they make him (?) an early boss. Petey as a playable character in a typical Mario spin-off breaks my suspension of disbelief and doesn't provide a reasonable replacement.

Piranha plants are just as iconic as the koopas. Petey was a great way to have one be playable in the spin-offs.

I would have every from SSB4, Ridley, Inkling, and Wolf.
Uhhh, what they did with Meta Knight's Galacta Knight costume is lazy and half-assed. Doesn't mean the devs are lazy overall or that their approach with this game is half-assed, just talking about this particular instance. No need to take it out of context.

It's just weird how everywhere he is. It feels kind of forced I guess, because other bosses aren't anywhere near as recurring. King Boo comes close and even then he's not as omnipresent as Petey can get. Even Toasdworth has mostly been phased out by this point
To sort of drive this home, look at modern Paper Mario. Won't even try to use Toadette or Toadsworth but by god we will make sure you fight Petey.
It's funny going back to GC/Wii era games and seeing him everywhere. He was a total flavour of the month
You know what Mario mainstay is also iconic? The question mark block. By this logic, we should come up with a contrived question mark block that moves and make it playable and it would be an improvement, while to me it clearly is not.
Petey is awesome! I'd honestly support him as playable tbh

Me too, I think he's a better choice than King Boo. At the very least I hope he returns as a boss in Spirits.

Looked the guy up. Where is he playable? Besides, that would still make more sense than Petey. His anatomy has been augmented accordingly.

I honestly like Petey. I'd play as him even, but there are a lot of other roster choices who'd work better. Would be nice to see him return as a boss, though maybe redone to act more like he does in Mario games instead of shaking cages around.
