64: Jigglypuff - Introduction to Smash was playing it at a friend's house. Didn't recognize all the characters, but I was really interested in playing Jigglypuff.
Melee: Mr. Game and Watch - Older siblings got the Gamecube when Melee released. Some of the most interesting characters in the cast were those who I had no idea about before (Marth, Roy, Ganondorf). I played a lot of cheapy tiger-electronic toys as a kid, so I was really intrigued when we unlocked Game and Watch. He would later go on to be my main in Melee and Brawl.
Brawl: Pokemon Trainer - The Smash Dojo was a magical time. So many hype reveals as I woke up religiously every weekday morning. Pokemon Trainer as a character blew my mind (3 characters in one!), so he was the first character I played upon booting the game up. Still remember my first match of Squirtle vs Yoshi at Halberd.
Smash 4: Pac-Man - Smash 4 is when 3rd parties definitely starting getting way more interesting. Megaman was a solid addition, but Pac-Man was such an icon of gaming that I was very interested in testing his moveset. Though after DLC I would probably put it at a tie with Ryu.
Ultimate: Richter - Castlevania is one of my favorite franchises growing up. I was hyped for Simon as the leaks encroached inevitability, but was all the more excited to see the inclusion of Richter, who I prefer more (but not as much as Trevor).

Melee: Pikachu, since I didn't know Smash 64 existed and really only knew about Pokémon at the time. When I saw this screenshot my mind was blown and I immediately bought a GameCube. This screenshot is why I'm right here right now, bizarrely.
Brawl: Sonic. And I remember freaking out over Olimar and Dedede for some reason. I loaded up the Smash Dojo on my Wii every day I got home from school and any new fighter was an event.
4: Cloud, none of the additions to the base cast were really that hype.
Ultimate: Richter because he looks cool, Isabelle, and honestly Chrom. I just like Chrom, he's a handsome dork.

64: Captain Falcon - I barely even knew what F-Zero was, but my friend had the game and told me about this guy who had an awesome punch so I was sold.

Smash 4: Palutena - Really wanted Palutena in smash and Sakurai delivered... except that she was awful in the actual game. Still disappointed by that.

As fun as that is, I'm pretty sure it's just a reference to Animal Crossing.
It's pretty half-assed of Nintendo to fix his mask but not add the lance/shield/wings/etc. in my opinion. Not sure why they'd bother making any changes if they weren't going to go the whole mile.
the mask isn't fixed, it just has small black points mapped over the same frame to make it look like the mask has different geometry. It's still basically a palatte swap
It's still just a color swap. His mask isn't actually cracked.

Yeah, I just took another glance at it and it's obvious that they just threw some black on there. That's pretty fucking lazy if you ask me, especially since this fan-made mod for Sm4sh was able to do a perfectly fine job of making the character into a wi-fi safe alt: https://gamebanana.com/skins/148836

Yeah it sucks Nintendo doesn't spend more time with alts like Fierce Deity (I was super disappointed in the Smash 4 skin), but the game has so much going on, I imagine spending more time on alternate costumes was pretty low on the priority list.

I could unlock everything from Smash 4, plus Inkling.
But I'll have everything else pre-ordered once available.
The OG 8 plus: Luigi, Ness, Bowser, Wario, Toon Link, Mega Man, Little Mac, Bayonetta, Inkling, Ridley*, and Isabelle. Oh and you bet I'm getting Snake as soon as I can, and maybe Ice Climbers too.
When's Professor E. Gadd gonna get some respect from Nintendo. It'd be nice to see him in some of these games like Smash in an AT role.
If only Wonderful 101 came out a couple of years later we could at least have a Wonder Red amiibo. That game's aesthetic would fit well as little plastic figures.

E Gadd can't even get into Mario Kart, they'd rather put in more OCs like Baby Daisy and Baby Rosalina. He ain't getting shit in smash.
