But I need something that protects it from drops. Bumpers don't do that all that well (to my experience), and I don't know of any clear cases that offer the same protection.

Check ebay for cases, i got a 99 cent clear plastic one that I used on my X for a year. But I use it for grip and not drop protection. But you could probably find something similar to an otterbox for less than 50. I had better luck searching iPhone x 6.5 instead of max.

iPhone 7 Plus is 5,5", iPhone X is 5,8" (minus notch). Anyway, for me it so no question, which I prefer

The iPhone SE 2 obviously
Right, that is what I said -- the diagonal length is longer on the X but that is meaningless because they're not the same aspect ratio. The + screen is larger overall. I have an X and a 7+ and to me, the X screen feels noticeably smaller

Slightly more per month because it's over 20 months, but still interest free. Have to do it in store.

They hide the option pretty well

I think I'm going caseless this year, to make the Max fit my hand as much as possible. I've got Applecare+ though, I hope that means I can live my life without worrying too much about dropping the phone?

AppleCare+ covers theft loss and damage?

How many times though?

I went caseless with my X no issues, but I tend to drop bigger phones more often so grabbed a Spigen case. I don't like the clear ones though, they're impossible to keep clean.

Any info on when reviews will drop? I want to hear about camera performance in real world tests.

I mean... it's not. as to if the added Apple cost is worth it to you or not is certainly arguable. but apple's silicon, screen, and camera have always equalled or beaten (especially in the case of the CPU and GPU) flagship android. add in App Store support by developers.. and apple has always been ahead. Now of course... are they $300-600 ahead? That's the question. Note 9's geekbench isn't even as fast as the X, let alone the XS.
Yeah. You haven't owned a Galaxy 9 product, have you? Acting like there's no question that iPhones are a better product is, of course, nonsense, and most definitely all of the points you bring up are highly questionable. For example, the iPhone camera was beaten by Pixel's last gen in CNET reviews and is a jump ball this gen. The Apple app store is consistently beat by Google Play every year in gross app releases and there are more migrations from iOS -> Android every year, too. The iPhone's screen is not Super AMOLED like the S9's nor does it match the resolution or the DPI. The question is not "is Apple $300-$600 ahead" whatsoever. Sorry.

For an individual user it essentially comes down to their feature preferences, budget, and ecosystem buy-in. The sooner people stop acting like their platform of choice is a slam dunk the sooner we can have less-annoying threads about smartphones.

I don't see why more space would be meaningless, the total screen real estate is slightly larger on iPhone X:

iPhone X sceen: 84.4 cm^2
iPhone 7 Plus sceen: 83.4 cm^2

Also more content is created for thinner (wider) aspect ratios and it gives you more list items or browsing space vertically. It is a tradeoff, but anyway, I would never carry a 7 Plus, the X's size is somewhat acceptable.

Agreed here, this is why I'm making an upgrade after 2 years, I just can't stand the 7 plus size at all, it actually hurts my hands sometimes.

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss protection includes up to 2 incidents of accidental damage, theft, or loss, each subject to the following deductibles:

  1. Screen damage: $29
  2. Any other accidental damage: $99
  3. Theft or loss: $199 for iPhone 8, iPhone 7, iPhone 6S, and iPhone 6; $229 for iPhone XR, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone 6 Plus; $269 for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone X

I heavily debated getting Theft and Loss protection but I've never had a phone even get damaged and need repair, let alone get lost, so I just stuck with regular AppleCare+.

I woke up trying to do the track by reference trick, which wasn't working, but I went into UPS My Choice and lo and behold, she's left China today.

For those that pre-ordered a Watch through Best Buy (cc Patrick Klepek), it says "We'll ship it by Fri, September 21.". Does this mean there's a chance it won't be release day delivery? Seems vague, but still a huge upgrade from my original order straight through Apple.

Well, it's weird. My 44mm pre-order says "get by Friday." My 40mm pre-order says "ship by Friday." Maybe the two will square sometime this week, but at the very least, it seems like I'd be getting the 40mm early next week, which was way earlier than Apple's estimate.

Can anyone suggest a good wallet case for the XS? I've been using the Griffin Survivor Clear for my 8 Plus and I quite like it since it supports wireless charging. Looking for something similar but wasn't necessarily looking to just opt for another Griffin.

"You haven't used a Samsung Galaxy 9, have you? Let me tell you why it's better than iPhone. The Pixel has a better camera than iPhone, so that's a point for the Galaxy..."

Also, who gives a shit how many apps are released? Who gets the best versions of apps? Who gets the best apps first? Which App Store generates the most revenue for developers?

And as for which side gets the most switchers, Forbes says you're wrong.

Edit: Unless the migrations you're talking about is from the article you linked talking about how Android gets more iOS apps than iOS gets Android apps. Which again, who cares?

Did someone in this thread say the ultra hybrid scratched their phone?

I was all set to get the XS since it's smaller, but looking at the dimensions of the XS Max, it seems to be roughly the size of my 6s Plus. Kind of tempted to go for the Max now

These phones aren't going to get scratched by cases. Maybe the bare stainless steal border of the silver model, but that will be promptly scratched by literally anything. Do not worry about that.

I like the Spigen Slim Armor Crystal the best in the past. It's like the regular hybrid crystal I think, but it has a little extra protection on the corners. Not enough to bulk it too much, but enough that I feel a little better if/when I drop it.

Unfortunately I don't think Spigen has that model available yet for the Max, at least on Amazon.

I can't speak to that, but I think any case will scratch your phone if you get a fleck of sand in it or don't clean it out regularly.

That's why I plan to get a dbrand skin (or another high quality skin) like I got for S9+. Was hesitant about it at first, but the installation process was straight forward and it looked and felt REALLY nice.
Plus I don't think any of the XS colors are particularly good enough that they wouldn't be improved with a good skin (especially the safe/boring space grey I'm getting).

$199 for the Xs... not sure about MAX or Xr, but I assume it's the same.
It was only $99 when I got my 7+.

It seems the new iPhones do have super AMOLED displays.

They get their screens from Samsung, I don't think they'll be a problem.

How much for regular apple care
free.

From imore:
Every iPhone you purchase, whether it's sold by Apple or another retailer, comes with a 1-year limited warranty called AppleCare . This coverage costs you nothing and is automatically activated the day you purchase your iPhone. Here's what it offers:
  • 1-year limited warranty against defects
  • 90 days complimentary phone support
The basic version of AppleCare, however, does not protect against any kind of accidental damage. That's where AppleCare+ comes into play.

Finally sorted out my bank stuff. An iPhone so expensive, it triggers fraud preventions and locks you out of your account. Lol.

Apple has definitely charged my card and the delivery is still Friday. Here's hoping for the best. I haven't seen anything on that UPS reference page yet.

Maaaan, so many people last year had their preorders bumped up to release date after the fact. I was hoping that would happen with mine (9-28-10/5)

Bounce, payments! BOUNCE!

Honestly, if you don't get yours Friday, you can probably reserve on at the Apple Store Saturday or Sunday if you wake up and try for in store pickup. That's what I did the last two years when I missed out on release day delivery.

I love going bare back. I got the Sena ultra slim sleeve for my XS Max.

That's not bare back. You have to go 100% case-less like me. Just risk it :) Luckily I replace every year so even with the scratches I do get by the end of the year, it gives me another appeal of a new phone.

To be fair this was the first year I got a major scratch across my screen since owning iPhones but it was only noticeable with the screen off or the brightness incredibly low (I run full brightness always except when at a low-light situation like a club or restaurant where it would distract others).
