If we're recommending extremely popular high school movies that everybody has probably already seen, then I'm gonna throw Election out there.

American Pie is the gold standard for me.

From the day my dad found a VHS of it in a dumpster, watched it and wouldn't let me see it it was my Moby Dick, my guiding light, trying find out what was in that film that my young eyes couldn't be allowed bear witness to.

Turns out it was a dude fucking a pie and Shannon Elizabeth's boobs.

Back in my day we filmed a horse galloping to see if all its feet were off the ground at the same time. You hipsters with your sound, stories, editing, acting, colors, avocado toast, kuleshov effect, and all that.

I enjoyed Next Gen on Netflix over the weekend. Similar to Big Hero 6.

Some of Austin's short fiction reads for FatT is good stuff

I've mentioned this before I'm sure, but... see this is very true and it's part of why I like his Waypoint article reads, except the first article read (or a form of it) was after the election and so it was very weird for like half a minute when my brain heard Samol talking about Trump

similarly it was a bit weird when "Seattle" was suddenly dropped

I'm listening to FatT for the first time right now, and I'm finding it hard to get into because of how monotone everyone (including Austin) sounds. They all talk like they're playing in the middle of a library or something. TaZ is so good because of how animated everyone's voices are.

Ehh that's just because TaZ has their entire deal about We Must Be Doing Character Voices (for better or worse, when it comes to some of the women PC voices...) and that's... mostly not a thing for FatT. Which makes sense- the Brothers are used to doing podcast bits, Clint's job was being a radio host, and all 4 of them have done lots of acting their entire lives as well; that's not necessarily the case for the Table Friends and I don't think there's much to be gained by making people not used to that force it, especially when like half of them never even did roleplaying before. Obviously that's reasonably not gonna be as appealing for different folks, but I feel like they tend to at least have a speaking style for their characters even if they don't lean into a full voice, so that's enough for me. Austin does voices for the NPCs too (maybe not as much at first? I forget) and I personally wouldn't call any of them "monotone", in any case.

alternatively: when you hear the voice of Flanger Johannes, you will feel ashamed of your words and deeds

Speaking of Netflix and high school stories, American Vandal season 2 was very good. Kind of a darker thing rather than satirical take of the first season, but the new main cast members are very good.

We watched the first 2 episodes last night. I feel like it's nowhere near as funny as the first season, but that might just be because I think drawing dicks on cars is a funnier crime than the whole explosive diarrhea thing.

I should actually start vaguely organizing what I'm doing when again and get started on that

I expect to agree with Jubbe on that point just because something grossing me out is gonna stand in the way of being amused by it

Yeah it almost gives up being a comedy for large parts of the season. Nobody in S2 carries it quite like Jimmy Tatro did in the first but they're sort of taking a different, less personal angle overall, which is great because it's hard to think of how they could keep the idea fresh. Turns out they just take a left turn.

Breakfast Club deals with a potential school shooting

14 years before Columbine happened

maaan

i mean

i don't think the arc of 'everyone in this country loves their guns' to 'what if someone in a school had a gun and shot a bunch of people' is that crazy a path to navigate

did that page used to have a header that was "This page is incomplete: you can help by expanding it. Please do not expanding it by shooting people"?
