The chair theory was predicated on the idea that the rustic looking room sakurai did the first direct from hinted at K.Rool. People thought they were using the room to hint at the next character. But Isabelle doesn't match anything from that room and had nothing hinting at her reveal.

I guess I blocked out a lot of posts from my memory of that day. Too many hot takes about Isabelle.
I don't blame you. The Isabelle hate was embarrassing

Young link's final Smash could be fierce deity link

I mean... they could always show fierce deity Link without Skull Kid... right?

Yeah, it's really sad.

Like, for example, Simon had been rumored for so long and leaked the night before. You could EASILY tell what they were going for like 5 seconds into the trailer and some people didn't catch on. Real smash fans keep up with and look out for leaks! ;)

I think the most annoyed I've ever been at reaction videos was the Metroid Prime 4 teaser. Some people did not recognize the iconic Prime 1 title theme and even worse the iconic screw attack logo, then some still didn't catch on to the 4, but then when the actual name finally showed up they pretended to go bat shit crazy. Not to mention the space background with phazon-looking blue stuff.

Like, wtf? If you're not a fan of a series it's ok but don't make it so blatantly obvious you have no idea what you're doing lol. It's embarrassing.

There is this one Youtuber who couldn't figure out what was going on in the Ridley trailer even after the tail stab. He kept calling Ridley Ripley in what seemed to be forced excitement. Maybe he does like Metroid and Ridley but it certainly didn't look that way during his reaction video.

One thing my therapist talked to me about is trying to interact with people online so I'm gonna try to talk smash more than I usually do

Best thing about this game is that it's coming out the day before my birthday. Gonna be the best birthday ever

Welcome to the Smashy Splatoon, how tough are ya?

False. Barrels were first in DK then made into real world objects.

No but for real...who just has a barrel chilling in their room like that? And a ladder...

Maybe I've lost touch with reality lmao
Real talk: My grandparents totally have barrels in their house. No reason for them either. Rope ladders are totally an aesthetic people do that I've seen as well.

Where does he film these things at anyway?

He may just be going into a random themed office layout to shoot these.

Sakurai seems to know everyone in the Japanese gaming industry, so I almost feel like he just pops into other people's offices and says "hey buddy, mind if I film a Direct real quick," Like maybe Hideo Kojima just had yellow and purple chairs for some inexplicable reason.

Sakurai just barges into people's house, ties them up, and then films the Direct while he makes them watch.

How could anyone with a functioning heart possibly hate on Isabelle? Look at her!

Many different factors, sometimes even a combination of a few
-Isabelle is a cutesy character
-smash wasn't the focus of the reveal
-"weak" reveal that didn't inspire hype reactions
-some expected different characters because of certain leaks
-she's a unique character instead of an echo
-Isabelle isn't seen as important (I think some people didn't realize how huge she actually is)
-the delayed of the Direct seemed to have raised expectations even further then usual for a direct. I swear. I mention I felt Smash would not be a big focus and have at most one reveal.

Plus a few more. Tho to be fair, there seems to be a more positive reception then the negative loud minority.

Funny you should mention that. I'm typing this with my hands tied behind my back as Sakurai is filming the October Smash Direct portions. You guys will not believe what's in store 0__0

Also, I wonder if Nintendo actually expected to have revealed Luigi's Mansion 3 before they aired the Simon trailer. Or if they really just meant it to hint at a future, new Luigi's Mansion game.

That is pretty funny right? We've known Sakurai to go ahead and be ready for future releases and what have you but that is a good question. Really makes you wonder how info gets around sometimes. Maybe Retro is too far removed to throw in Retro style barrel jet packs?

I know it sounds delusional but 100% believe the chair theory. I mean, the E3 room is extremely Donkey Kong.

The wood...the ladder...the plants...the barrel.

masahiro-sakurai_1533879703330.jpg

I do think this was a hint at Donkey Kong getting a newcomer. I also think the furnishings in the last Smash Direct was a hint at someone else as well. Just because Isabelle was the one revealed recently doesn't disprove the theory. It was only everyone's assumption that the next reveal would correlate with the last "hint".

I think that will be a phase in his boss fight.

Barrels exist outside of Donkey Kong.

You've gotta admit even the color of the barrel is suspiciously painted in iconic Donkey Kong red and yellow.

I mean the room theory and skull kid makes a ton of sense too. It's just so damn specific to have those chairs then a couch with the same color palette and style as Skull Kid. I can't imagine any room designer or worker specifically arranging that furniture.

do you happen to have a version of the article WITH the leaked characters?

Here's the best I could find: https://www.coryfaller.com/ssbm/features/secretchars.htm

This has actual screens of some of them so it wasn't the very first thing we posted, I think that's lost to the ages at this point. I remember trying to find representative images of some of them and putting a picture of Disk-Kun for Game & Watch cause I had no idea what Game & Watch even was.

The chairs were actually hinting at a newcomer from Sun (yellow chair) and Moon (purple chair). That pillow that people say shared colors with Skull Kid? It also shares them with Tapu Koko. It was so obvious. /s

Maybe it's all at Namco's offices and they just really love Skymall.

Sakurai just barges into people's house, ties them up, and then films the Direct while he makes them watch.

He's going to Bill Murray them. "If you tell anyone about this, no one will believe you."

Ridley is a duck. He sits around on space lakes and shoots fireballs at fish and insects.
Well

Technically

I mean the lakes are made of lava but most of Norfair's fauna seems to be fish and insects and Ridley has to eat something other than humans down there

And like, survive all the lava

So technically

Yeah technically Ridley is a space duck

Y'know there's a slightly bittersweet sideffect about the Box Theory. It means fake leaks won't be as interesting. Like the best we'll get is renders of Ken and Incineroar or leakers trying to explain his moveset. Like some may view that as a good thing but it kind of takes away the wind from the Smash hype cycle which is the stupid fake leaks that pop up.

you're a fool if you think fakers wont try to go with the countertheory of "these character will be revealed in november" combined with "verge is a liar, it's not ken & incineroar it's *your wildest dreams*"

What are each Smasher's rooms like?

I'll start with the newcomers that aren't echoes

Inkling - uh literally the splash screen for Splatoon. Messy, but stylish.

Ridley - it's like a birds nest. With lava. And mangled corpses.

Simon Belmont - simple. Probably something like the houses in Neuf-Brisach.

King K. Rool - Somewhere with a lot of treasure and grog and gadgets. It's closer to a lair than a bedroom.

Isabelle - a chill little house.

The worse part is going to be the speculation policing where people won't let anyone speculate on anything else other than Ken and Incineroar. It's already started some and it was a nightmare at full blast the first time.

At least the three main culprits for making it even worse than it could have been during Smash 4 are all in the game already now, so mostly people are just being emo as opposed to having anything on the line. But I'm not sure if that actually makes anything any better.

And since people think Box Theory is an inevitability it means there's like a 75% chance it's wrong and people are just getting worked up for nothing.

Like, I'm kind of subconsciously inflating my expectations for how many characters are in this game just on the assumption that Box Theory is wrong. Not because I actually have any personal investment because I'm indifferent to all the "shoo-ins" anymore to the point that I've already moved on to waiting for DLC in terms of new characters and am mostly just happy with Inkling and all my precious veterans now, but because every time people do this it's wrong.

" Also, since it's very unlikely for there to be three characters with near-identical moves, the inclusion of Dr Mario increases the likelyhood of Luigi having brand new attacks."

hahahahaha oh wow

some things never change

"Ganondorf was at the top of many people's lists when it came to secret characters in SSBM. Luckily for them, he's included and rarin' to go. I'd imagine him to have attacks very similar to those that he used at the end of Ocarina of Time, including many varieties of energy blasts. It would be especially cool if he transformed into Ganon, like Zelda turns into Sheik, but I highly doubt that that will happen. It remains to be seen if he'll have his cape, since it wasn't included on his trophy in the gallery mode."

man I can feel the disappointment seeping through the space-time continuum all the way from back in 2001
