Japan actually loves Crash. Certainly not more than Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter, but the fandom is there. Banjo probably had a fandom but it's most likely died since.
They're at least known in Japan though.
Dragon Quest is still way too niche in the west. I can definitely see it getting it but it wouldn't be able to be used as a big "HOLY SHIT" reveal globally.
Monster Hunter is up there though after World, yeah.
Yeah, a lot of spell names in Japanese are onomatopoeia, so modern localizations have matched this.
Banjo would have been king of the world had Nintendo kept rare and banjo threeie happened on gamecube and would have almost assuredly been in Brawl. Instead he and his series washed up and became a shitty kart racer before dying of indifference.

I'm heavily skewed towards Japanese so games, so Banjo and Crash mean nothing to me. Dragon Quest would make me lose my god damn mind and I'd be pretty hype about a Monster Hunter character. There are dozens of us! I also wouldn't say Dragon Quest is quite a niche as people make it out to be in the states. Obviously not a heavy hitter, but Dragon Quest IX sold over a million copies in the west. We haven't heard back on DQXI yet, but I wouldn't be shocked if it performed similarly.

He's the most recognizable Nephalem character from the series, but Diablo would probably be a better rep, or Tyrael.
Anything from the series is an incredible longshot, but I'd like to see a Diablo character before any other Blizzard rep, tbh.

I hope 64/Melee logic kicks in rather than Brawl/4 and we get these harmless looking characters as the strongest in the game
