I'm probably an outlier because I think Sora's really lame and Terra's pretty cool. If I want any of these two throw around classic Final Fantasy spells, I'd rather it be the latter.
but best case scenario for me would be for DQ to make it in in some form instead

A terrible timeline
Besides Terra would be another great female character especially since she was a pretty great written one compared to say...

a certain pink haired female who's name is related to a weather phenomenon

I really don't want Terra in this for the simple reason that you just know Square will go with her Dissidia appearance.

As someone who hasn't really played Dragon Quest, what would there moveset need to be to standout?
Most Dragon Quest main heroes have a pretty consistent moveset: swordsmen who can heal and use lightning magic. Moves could include Flame Slash or Falcon Slash, alongside spells such as Zap (lightning blast), Kaclang (turns their body into metal), Zoom (fly through the air), Fizz and Sizzle (fire magic), Snooze (sleep magic), or Kabuff (defensive buff). Most Dragon Quest heroes carry magic swords that can be used to cast their own special spells as well. For a final smash, I would expect Gigaslash or Kazap.

The green hair has been an alt in every Dissidia, it'd definitely be an option here. NT even had a costume based entirely on the sprite - it wouldn't be out of the question to get that as a modeled alt in addition to the green haired Amano.

But that's not exactly a relevant debate given Terra's never getting in.

Gigaslash would definitely be their Final Smash. Only other thing I can think of is incorporating Ramia/Empyrea into the attack.

Now that Nintendo's getting X and X-2, I wouldn't mind playable Yuna.

Just looked it up... what's wrong with it?
Well it's very plain and uninteresting compared to her sprite but I'm not just talking about her physical appearance, I'm also talking about her general attitude. In Dissidia she was very demure and apologized after many of her attacks. She was just overall lame compared to her FFVI self.

Richter had a dash in Symphony of the Night, so they'll surely use that as a reference like they have the moveset.

I think Simon and Richter have different run animations, looking at Richter's video he starts a run for a few frames before using a dash attack and it looks like he bends down for his run. Simon stands upright while running.

I'll get shit in for it but I love this song and would be thrilled for it to be in Smash, either as a remix or in its original form.

Another issue with her Dissidia incarnation is that it ignored that Terra used heavy armor and the heavier swords. She was just as much of a physical powerhouse as she was a magical force of destruction.

They could be pretty unique, there is a lot of stuff to pull from the games.

They could be a swordsman/mage hybrid, lots of spells from the games. Kazap, Sizz, Crack, Boom etc.

They could be a summoner. Summon monsters that will attack for you.

They could use their equipment as tools, just like in the games. The tool command basically makes the character throw/use a piece of equipment as an item, which will have an effect. Some shields/swords heal you when used, some cast a spell, some buff/debuff.

They could use different types of weapons. A mace, staff, whip, boomerang. Lots of weapons to choose from.

Do DQ moves have such adorable names like that? I should start getting into the series ASAP, d'awww
Only played Sentinels of the Starry Skies for a couple of hours at most but I remember the typical gorgeous Square graphics even for the DS

No shits here, I'm down for anything Pokemon GO anyday. Maybe they'll use the battle theme too (which, unlike the map theme, isn't a Gen 1 remix) so it feels more original to the mobile game.

But I admit I'd imagine there are much more hurdles to get there than they had to get to FE Heroes because of Niantic and all of the Pokemon Company stuff.

They have some really charming character designs. I'd even argue the series is Toriyama's best character design work.

For a DQ rep, I'd like to have Bianca.

But it seems that I'm the only person in the world which liked Dragon Quest V and if the people goes for the franchise, they probably would pick an hero.
I thought it was consensus that Dragon Quest V is the best game in the series. Heck, it's certainly my favourite. One of the most narratively ambitious SNES JRPGs.
