It's kind of fascinating how the most likely Square reps at this point are those with the biggest logistical hurdles.

Kingdom Hearts has Disney to go through, though Sakurai likely has a foot in the door through Nomura.

Dragon Quest is just negotiating with Square, but it's also one of the most protected franchises they have, with at least three major figureheads of individual clout to go through.

It probably isn't Final Fantasy because Smash is still stuck with VII branding. But either way whichever most likely Square series they get would probably be worthy of the title "Ultimate".

Some people were talking shit, yes

They felt Eevee's inclusion was a given after Let's Go, Eevee! Became a thing

So where ya'll at, huh? I just want to talk

Eevee probably tops the list in popularity over time for Nintendo characters not yet playable in smash, but is never high on the list of what's currently popular.

That makes me think that eventually Eevee will definitely get its turn, but who knows when that'll be. I'd like to say Let's Go Eevee will help for dlc chances, but unfortunately that game looks pretty bad.

So...seems like Smash Bros has the biggest fanbase on ERA according to that other thread.

Anyone surprised? :p

I'm back from trying out Smash Ultimate at Best Buy. Two matches. I played as Inkling and Ridley. Got 2nd place both times. Played on the Great Plateau Tower and Moray Towers. Saw the Bomberman AT and knocked it back a little (but not off screen).

The Switch Pro Controller is great and all, but I'm still not used to playing Smash on something that isn't a Gamecube controller.

which is why they should just use chrono imo

Pretty much how I felt. More options are always good, but there's nothing like the GameCube controller.

Maybe Lara Croft then?

I honestly hope the new Square rep is another FF character before they put in another franchise. There's so so so so so so so so so SO much more that can be taken from that series. Cloud getting in should've been the exciting beginning of some amazing possibilities, it's heartbreaking that they've been so stingy with it.

Characters

Terra, Celes, Vivi - Mages with unique FF spells like Demi, Quake etc. tiered spells like Fire, Fira, Firaga. Final Smashes could be Meteor, Ultima Trance
Tidus - unique Water, Sword, Blitzball moveset
Yuna - dressphere based moveset, could swap a la Sheik/Zelda
Cecil - could again swap between Dark Knight and Paladin

Stages
World of Ruin, Kefka Tower, Opera House - FFVI
Balamb Garden, Lunatic Pandora, Ultimecia Castle - FFVIII
Iifa Tree, Crystal World, Alexandria - FFIX
Zanarkand, Besaid, Farplane - FFX

Music I can't even begin

Looks like this time we got overwhelmed by moderate votes.

Ends in 2 years from release - 24 votes
Ends in a year from release - 13 votes
Goes beyond 2 years, less than 7 ch/st batches within them - 5 votes
Goes beyond 2 years, more than 6 ch/st batches within them - 4 votes
None - 1 vote

Also I just realized the theory prediction strawpoll doesn't include a "none" option. If you expect something like 104-107 stages and more than 2 characters, one of which clashes with musikrool, feel free to quote this post and voice your discontent, I'll try to count these.

Ridley is a lot faster/lighter than I would have expected.

Inkling has some strong attacks as well.

I really can't wait to hear whatever Forest Maze remix could the Smash Bros composition team have made for his potential reveal trailer. I really love the few orchestra cover that are on YouTube:

I don't believe it will be anything other than DQ just because it's one of the biggest franchises in Japan that isn't represented. I don't see Sakurai having much trouble acquiring a character from Sqaure to be honest.

It's ok for me cause of Smash 3DS but I never played Smash 3DS as much as I wanted cause it felt like the game was too intense for the circle pad and I felt like I was gonna break it any second

We'll probably be on DT 9 or 10 before the game comes out. I can't say I'm surprised that people think Smash has the biggest fanbase here, even if these threads are mostly just a handful of us talking in circles.

Although out of DQ and KH I think KH was the easiest to work with(because Nintendo was probably already making negotiations about a Nintendo character appearing in Wreck it Ralph 2), I think the most likely one out of the 3 is still Geno because it's the easiest to get.
For the record, I do think it would be the easiest character to get. I just think we're well passed the point where Sakurai would settle for what's "easy".

Plus there's the fact that, while I'm not sure how early the specific Square rep would've leaked among insiders, given how Imran was the first to tease it and seemed very teasingly coy about it, I don't think it would be Geno - particularly when he's had a very unflattering post about the character on here.

To be honest I don't really trust Imran.

Music rule states that once a series has had music posted on the site it isn't getting any more newcomers. It's basically repeated to annoy Geno fans cos a Mario track got posted.
Mario Series got 2 songs posted to Smash For, one mainline and one RPG song. Mario series also has two separate categories on the Smash Ultimate music menu.Geno is still on the table. I was very confident he was coming after the Smash Direct but not so much anymore.
Anyway, if we get another Square rep put me down as saying it will be either Geno or Noctis

This is how I view most Square Enix reps chances

Final Fantasy VII - Zack Fair would be one of the easiest echoes, I think he's kinda inevitable if DLC happens and includes echoes. Logistically they've already cleared the same hoops for Cloud.
Sora - Disney has a working relationship with Nintendo, it'd make some sense for him not to be on the box (if you believe in that theory), and he'd also have easy echo potentiality.
Crono - Kinda forgotten except by JRPG fans.
Geno - Kinda forgotten except by very vocal Smash fans for well over a decade, which gives him something of a chance. Also appeared as a costume already.
Dragon Quest - Sugiyama is a Problem. In more ways than one. Also lacks in worldwide recognition to the extent it might not be worth negotiating for a playable rep. Slime Assist Trophy? Sure, why not.
Lara Croft - Her classic design is synonymous with realistic pistols, her modern design is basically a sadistic Predator who might be a bit too viscerally murder-y for Smash.
Bravely Default - Big on 3DS, could represent the FF series' Job system without being a FF rep, and Edea is great. On the downside, the franchise is basically dormant. For now.
Neku Sakuraba - TWEWY isn't a huge property but it is practically a Nintendo exclusive IP if you discount the mobile port. Would make for a very unique fighter. Sakurai might like the jams?
2B - NieR Automata blew up last year but no one really saw it coming. Could be DLC?
Bub and/or Bob - Taito needs some love and they're probably better suited than Space Invaders. Don't have much of a move pool, however.
Gex - A Hard Lock

Why? He's still a Mario character and he doesn't have his own spin-off like Wario and Yoshi. It doesn't really make sense to make a whole new icon just for a side character from a Mario spin-off.

Licensing. Square still holds the copyright to big chunks of Mario RPG. Legally speaking Geno is not a Mario character, he's a Mario RPG character.

That uh really doesnt make sense since Geno would likely have his own icon since he's considered a 3P rep.
Why would a rep from Super Mario RPG not have a Super Mario icon? For reference, we have another third party character developed for a Mario game in Smash, who has the Mario icon. Their only difference from Geno is that Nintendo remembered to clamp down on the rights for him; and that character is Waluigi.

They could make the Mario RPGs their own series, with a hammer as the series icon (Mario has a hammer in all of the Mario RPG sub-series)

But Nintendo has the rights to Waluigi. Geno is a Square Enix character.
