The Dragon Quest enemies are pretty iconic (very recognizable even for me who hardly played the games). While I can't really see just Slime making it in as a fighter alone, a character that incorporates summoning/sending out monsters to fight as their moveset would be really cool.
Having a spinoff character from Dragon Quest Monster Joker or something would be.... weird. But apparently the Dragon Quest V protagonist can tame monsters as well? I can see that kinda working.

As anyone who saw reactions to K. Rool's reveal on Twitter knows, for every person that calls K. Rool ugly, there's 10 people who think he's hot. Which is very impressive for a pre-rendered character booted out of his own series.

Slippy shouldn't be an Echo. I'd make him a unique fighter based on Star Fox Guard. I mean, why put in content for that game's pack-in bonus unless you're going to have something for the core experience, too?

He is a lot of scalies' type. He's a less formal, younger Bowser as a personality. More likely to go on drinking sprees with you.

Peppy can be a clone with less mobility (both slower and his specials travel less) but more strenght so you need to think more while doing

But yeah slippy is an enginer that sucks at flying so he needs a more star fox guard like moves

Has anybody brought up the idea of Akuma being a potential boss if the story mode rumors pan out? I still would like him to be in the game if they decide to pick Ken as Ryu's clone instead.

Slippy could honestly borrow a few of Snake's moves and it wouldn't even be that weird, especially the up-B drone. I don't even care about Starfox but I feel like Peppy and Slippy should be in just 'cus at this point

Kuwait.
One. For DLC.

3DS had one blank spot that was filled up by the DLC button.

Stage_Select_SSB4-3DS_Normal.jpg

Wii U had no obvious blank spots but still ended up having a DLC button anyway.

Compare those to Ultimate having more than half of an entire row blank.

Have you seen the character select screen

It's perfectly possible to make Isabelle/Wolf/Lucas-style characters out of Peppy and Slippy. They'd have thematically derivative special moves and mostly unique standard attacks.

Peppy
General vibe: Old West gunslinger, kung fu master
Example: he shoots his Blaster from his hip like a cowboy

Slippy
General vibe: goofy joke character (low traction and untrained animations), engineer
Example: his Reflector is a trap he places down that automatically deflects a projectile or shocks anyone who gets too close; his Blaster is a chargeable cannon that can overheat and backfire; his recovery is a jetpack similar to K. Rool or Diddy

I think they'd make for a great DLC set, personally.

The Street Fighter boss will be M. Bison; but if you defeat him without taking damage or using a continue, THEN you fight Akuma.

As far as looks are concerned I do not like the old rare K Rool. I really hate the first DKC Donkey Kong with them skinny arms. The Mario Sluggers one was cool to me but this new iteration is really nice. He looks modernized for the present and beyond.

I assume people here talked about the vergeben latest news

I've been at work the last 5 hours what's new?

And not to go all Siete on things here, but if this is our final lineup, it's a shame that after all that "woah, look at the females we added!" posturing of smash 4, they missed out on some timely/relevant picks like Elma and Dixie and alternative echo options like Medusa, Celica and Brittany.

I actually kinda like Chrom but come on, three main characters from a single FE title? Celica would've made for a much more novel choice for the FE echo but Awakening gonna Awakening.

Don't get me wrong, the roster is still killer but, yeah that point about the female reps is looking to be a valid complaint in the end.
PS: Rhythm Heaven gets done dirty once more, perhaps it at least gets a stage.

Not to complains but I'm surprised that they went with Chrom over Dixie Kong if they want to bump more female numbers but again I remember that Chrom already had his model ready to go with.

I could see it happening in the same way the Knuckles AT was made - basically an unplayable Echo with a few extra attacks that might mess up the balance and so he's just left as an npc to avoid balancing him. If every boss has to be giant again though, it won't happen.

So will echoes even get balanced against any other character?

I don't think the rabbit would be the slow but strong type. He's the old and experienced type, which would make him more of a zoner in fighting game terms. That means stronger specials for weaker hand-to-hand and recovery.

Returning to that box for a moment, can someone come up with a reasonable motivation behind laying the characters out in the way they are laid out, with the teeth rows? It's really suspicious to me. Why would they not swap sides on every row instead? If they did, the box theory would hold regardless, I guess... unless it's not Ryu getting an echo and it would end up on the same side... but then they could just show the other one and not bother with blacking the final to out...

Aaargh! Why? Just why? Did they naively think the teeth would stop people from theorizing? Whyyyyyyyyy?

It keeps the original 8 (plus bonus Dark Samus) together, I guess?

This is where we realise the OGs are on the back of the box, and not the hidden side XD

I suspect that, development-wise, the difference between semiclones and echoes is that they don't balance echoes individually.

Chrom is just Roy with a different Up-B. Whatever balance patches they make to Roy can be copy-pasted to Chrom. Dr. Mario, however, has just enough different properties to his moves that they can't quite do that.

Verg affirmed his belief of Incineroar, as well as addressed the box rumor by saying that he couldn't verify if it was real or not, but at the very least there are more characters at some stage of development

It sounds like Vergeben is positive there are more than two unrevealed characters (Incineroar and Ken), but is a bit nervous about confronting Box Theory™. His sources won't tell him one way or the other, other than one person asserting that there absolutely is some surprise Square Enix character. So he floats the idea of DLC.

I don't think it's physically possible to make echoes from Fox or Falco for either Peppy or Slippy. They're both fairly stout and less anthropomorphic. The specials aren't the problem, the rest of the moves which feature long kicks, etc. are.

Ah. What about an echo's individual traits? I wonder how they are handled. Daisy's in a weird spot. The thing that would make the most sense for her is changing the float properties around and balancing that so it isn't OP compared to Peach. Maybe that's why the side B for her is so fast now? I don't know...
