I'm almost at the end, and I've enjoyed my time with it. The web swinging is phenomenal, the gadgets are awesome and remind me of Ratchet and Clank and crafting new suits is fun. New York is gorgeous, and the photo mode is wild, and I also thought the gameplay was strong. I was honestly let down by the missions though.

Most of the entire first act was a slog in my opinion. Some of them were more like side missions, and the others were just boring. For example, the mission named "Wheels Within Wheels", I thought this mission was awful, It dragged on for far too long, and the tasks weren't interesting. The Mary Jane missions and Miles missions were tedious as well. They just weren't fun. Some of the missions felt a tad bit generic, like sneaking around without getting caught and getting game over when you do and other things like that

The side missions weren't good either. I hated getting research tokens because of how boring they were to get and getting base tokens got a bit repetitive.

I think Spider-Man is a strong game but there is definitely room for improvement in my opinion

I found the missions to be fun ways to use the core gameplay, but that's just my opinion

It's a great game but is no way more than an 8/10, 8.5 for the story imo. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as everyone but OT is still active for you to share your impressions with everyone else. There are already many Spider-Man threads.
Personally I think the entire main story was fantastic and very well paced. Even the MJ and Miles sections because there were great story and character moments in those parts.

Exciting traversal and boring mission structure is pretty standard for open world games.

Assassin's Creed you get your climbing, GTA you get your driving, Dying Light you get your parkour, Red Dead Redemption you get your horse, etc, but none of them are really overly concerned with pushing the bar in mission design, they're still trying to figure out how to make getting from A to B as exciting as possible.

Some of the side-missions are downright terrible for a developer of Insomniac's calibre. Most notably the Research Station missions and the one where you control the Spider-Drone following the "scents" are THPS4/T.H.U.G level of side-mission, that's no hyperbole. The fact that what felt like 50% of "Story Missions" were actually deceptive activators for more of these low-quality side-activities really tested my patience.

The traversal is satisfying and the combat is flashy and yes - "the game makes you FEEL LIKE SPIDERMAN" but god, some of the content in that game is C-tier. You have non-AAA studios that have been creating better side-content than that for years now.

Strange how he says the game is pretty good and enjoyed his time with it, yet everyone assumes he's shitting on it. Weird...
