Removing a real life symbol to follow for women for a fictional character related to religion.

Sounds like a conservative decision, how backward and shameful.

The fucks responsible for this need to be removed from power. People should be far more concerned about conservatives' war on education.

So Moses through his actions influenced the US politics? You learn something new each day.

There is something to be said that ancient near eastern legal codes provided the basis for law as we know it, and that since the Ten Commandments were in the part of the near eastern tradition that made it into Europe that it is important. But that's if you're taking a big view of the development of the Mediterranean civilization and not a "streamlined" view of US history. This is just Evangelical-wank.

Near East? You mean white Moses, along with White Jesus foretold the white greatness of the United States of America and enshrined the 2nd Amendment along with strong white Christians as the cornerstone of the world.

Imagine taking the dumbest and most backward people in the country and allowing them to decide the facts and subjects that kids in public school are going to learn. What could go wrong?

How do we let them? They're locally elected. Texas School Board. They use the fact that their state is large and heavily populated to strongarm textbook makers to conform to their decisions. How do people outside of Texas stop that?
i don't know, but usually there are ways to pressure change, if enough people want it.

i mean, i assume the Texas School Board consists of humans and not some untouchable demigods who will never compromise no matter what..

have there been any protests bringing attention to their obviously gross influence over education?

Next year Texas will just burn any existing history books, instead using printouts of Trump Tweets and old copies of The Art of The Deal.

But really, this shit is disturbing.

Maybe by Texans. It's a huge state that's about a 2 day drive from me. This is one of those things. They're locally elected so where do I protest so that it's visible? They're outside of control of state and federal government officals. I guess I could try to stage a boycott of textbook purchases, but those decisions are made all over the country. You could sue but what laws are they breaking exactly?

I added some info to my OP. It seems just because they purchase a massive amount of textbooks
Texas boycotts textbooks that do not conform to their decisions. Companies like selling textbooks. Texas has a ton of schools which would mean a LOT of lost revenue by not conforming.
Depressing. There truly is nothing in this world that people are unwilling to compromise in the name of money.

I remember in 7th grade, our Texas History textbook called the Civil War, 'the War of Northern Aggression'. Good thing our history teacher still clarified that this was an error.

I have a former colleague who left Texas because of the public education. We are sticking it out for now but this sort of thing is definitely a reason to leave. I'm expecting conflicts when my kids are a bit older on all of this garbage.

She was a woman, disabled, and probably not even rich! That's no inspiration to conservatives.
It's strange because Keller could be used to demonstrate the false narrative of the self made person. She was blind, deft and mute, yet overcame all odd!

There has been an active conservative Christian influence on the Texas school board since the early 90s. It's been reported on by the national press since the 1990s. https://www.nytimes.com/1998/10/12/...brawl-in-texas-is-for-control-of-schools.html

There were protests against the school board's changes in 2010.
https://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/21/education/21textbooks.html

They were ineffective. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-kno...-approves-controversial-textbook-changes/954/

As noted in the article from 1998 - the conservative Christian coalition is not interested in other opinions. Protests won't change their mind.

Even if you believe everything that happened in the Bible was real, how the fuck is that more relevant to American history than the first female presidential candidate or Helen Keller? Religious groups are slowly leading this country down a very dark path. (And for what it's worth, I have no problem with religion, just a large percent of institutionalized religion)

pseudo Christians are a destrutive NWO cult who will abuse protections in this country to suit their agenda or anywhere else on this planet. Sadly most of the left with real power doesn't care or is in bed with them.
