You tried it.
Mario Sunshine would have problems of control and Baten kaitos would not make sense, the games that continue to be released are designed for the demographics of children who have 3DS because it is cheap.

Luigi's Mansion reuses the engine of Luigi's Mansion 2 and Epic Yarn is probably the same as Wolly World, so they are very easy ports to make.

In addition, Kirby Epic Yarn sold four times more than Baten Kaitos so ''everyone actually wants'' is false. It also had better reviews

If we go by sales and reviews shouldn't the 3DS get the superior Return to Dreamland? It's the 2nd best game in the series after Robobot AND has a multiplayer component.

Captain Todd got a dual release, why not this?

Honestly that whole 'get both teams to focus on one platform' thing seems like a crock of shit. Particularly when you have the mobile games bubbling along as well

I say this as someone who still uses and lives the 3ds. But it frustrates me so that they are intentionally throttling the switch for no logical reason

Don't worry, the Switch is getting its own years-old ports.

Is this the first N3DS only game? Why?
No, there is Xenoblade 3D, Fire Emblem Warriors, Biding of Isaac Rebirth, all the SNES Virtual console and many crappy indie games. The reason is because they just won't run on the regular 3ds (Hyrule Warriors ran terribly on it for example so it's natural that FEW came just to new), or to give some exclusive content for the machine in the case of the Snes games.
