Using an alt account to circumvent a ban

The very concept of cloud saves is to protect you against realistic worst case scenarios. So when Nintendo's may not protect you in a realistic worst case scenario (barring further Nintendo clarification) that undermines the point of the service in the first place.

Makes no sense. So in your opinion the worst case is that you don't pay anymore for the service?

This is no worst scenerio, because its a decision not to pay anymore.

If you hack your Switch and use homebrew you don't need to pay for online anyway, your Switch and your account will be banned automatically when you go only with a hacked Switch.
I think you'll only get banned if you pirate games. I've been able to use the e-shop to buy and play games while using homebrew for emulators and no bans so far. But i'll look in to it some more. Thanks for the heads up!

If Nintendo is Smart they will at least offer a grace month for one month for people who have a +3month subscription. I could see them being less supportive if you only use a 7-day coupon and use the cloud....but even then i really doubt that they would just delete all saves as soon as the sub ends....doesnt make alot of sense.

I mean, does that makes sense? If you don't pay for your services, why would Nintendo guarantee to keep that data you're not paying for?

In practice, though, there will likely be an official (or unofficial) grace period before your stuff is wiped out.

You are already paying them a boatload of money by buying all those games on the console that you bought, it's a matter of keeping customers happy buying more games.

And beside cloud saving, on all other consoles you have the possibility to backup or transfer saves for free, what happens if your switch dies? Bye bye save games.

Just be grateful your game of choice even HAS cloud saves.

Splatoon won't have them.

So I'll be paying for no cloud saves and also worse matchmaking as the online audience plummets.

For some shitty rented ROMs.

Plenty of people will pay for it. The people complaining are a very small fraction.

This. The complaints here are so minor to the average consumer yet we have multiple tthreads here echoing the same concerns. And then we have people convinced the service is going to flop because Nintendo doesn't retain cloud data after expiration or other detail most gamers do not care about. It's an online subscription first and foremost and it does that without much drama.

I'd like to meet anyone stupid enough to pay for this service. This is one of the most backwards shit I've seen this gen; and I'm referring to their online service as a whole, it's a complete joke.

But Of course Nintendo Fans aka freelance PR team is reminding me of how entitled I am. For asking for a basic set of standards for a service I am suppose to pay for.

"After an extended period".
That's pretty vague.
1 month ? 1 year ? More, less ?

Changes everything really.

Beside that. Nice topic for haters gathering.
Nintendo Online is indeed quite hideous for now but I see an awful lot of very childish attacks beside.
Good job trolls, you know when and where you can strike.

It's telling that a corporate apologist came into this thread and made a false statement with the completely reasonable assumption that it was possible to locally back up Switch saves.

If anything is clear, it's that there's confusion within the different branches of Nitnendo has to what the hell is going on within their online service. Perhaps the Japanese and EU branches do not offer a grace period, whereas NA does? Even typing this, it doesn't sound realistic to me, but ...

Imagine defending a billion dollar, capitalist company over these absolutely laughable online practices in 2018.

And I'll bet most people complaining in these Nintendo threads dont even have a Nintendo Switch.
I'm pretty sure if you go through the thread, I am the loudest person "complaining" by a fairly large margin.

Here's my Switch

But sure, pretend that the people posting the problems with this are just people who don't have an interest in Nintendo and are using it to score points.

Meanwhile, I'll be arguing that Nintendo could be improving the experience of many owners rather than taking away the few features we should already have and charging for it.

You don't have to imagine it, they will gleefully pay 20 bucks for something that will be taken from them like they never had it.
IIRC it's $20 for 12 months. Not $20 for life cloud saves. They're not robbing anyone.

Maybe they could make it free like MS, but if you unsubscribe from Gold or Plus then online multiplayer and access to free games is taken from you like you never had them.

At least be consistent

If you unsubscribe from PS+ or GWG, when you go back your games and saves (for Sony) comes back as well.

It's the year 2018 and they're still this incompetent. It's incredible they're still around at all as a tech company tbh.

The only reason why I'm paying for it is because I have no choice if I want to play online.

Thank god Nintendo wasn't crazy enough to charge a full $60 for this.

Funny, because my Switch got stolen and a proper Cloud Save system could have easily saved the save files in the cloud...

But hey. That doesnt really happen often, so its okay.

If that system would be in place I should have the whole subscription running before I buy a new one just to access my cloud saves.

-Nintendo being vague about the topic we're discussing, the uncertainty of cloud saves, changes everything
-This thread serves no purpose other than to gather haters and trolls
-You think Nintendo's online service is "quite hideous"

Do I have this right?

Someone actually posted here that if you wanted to keep your saves you can just pay the sub until you get your new one.

Yeah. Pay the sub. For online services on a device you don't fucking own because your previous one was stolen. When literally every other platform either has effectively endless cloud saves without payment, or a guaranteed grace period so you don't really need to worry about doing that.

As someone else who had a device without cloud saves stolen, I feel for you man.

I'm really just buying this for the cloud backup. Most multi-player games that I play on the switch are just played locally.
I just want my saves backed up and I really don't trust this cloud service to not have any problems..

Am I crazy or did Sony said similar thing when they first had Cloud Saves? Pretty sure they said they are unsure if they would keep your saves or PS Plus games once your membership expired.

You better pay up sonny, it would be horrible if those beautiful saves would have an accident, don't you think?

You're cray cray. Sony have always said they'll keep them for six months but there's posters in this thread who've re-subscribed over a year later and their saves were still all there.

Pointing to Sony and saying "what about them" is ridiculous anyway because, unlike Nintendo, they let you back your saves up locally.

No.

I didn't say that.
It's part of it.
Not ALL the people conplaining are trolls. I conplain about it too : /.
Thought it was clear.

"Changes everything also doesn't mean "terrible or perfect".
But the degree of bad is completely different if saves remain kept for months/years compare to days.

That's all. Why going that far negatively about my message ?

Gathering =/= everyone.
A group can still exist in a crowd.
Doesn't mean the whole crowd is part of the group.

Just to clarify, your main complaint is that the cloud services are inside a paywall, correct? Your post does not directly go against my unless you're saying that nothing shouldn't happen to your account if you stop paying them after a certain period of time.

You only have Oydssey? I'm sorry, but you need at least 5 retail Switch games to be allowed to complain.
