Wasn't going to come in here until finishing the season but jesus Episode 6.

The entire episode is absolutely wonderful, and then that final reveal happens and it goes a step beyond that and becomes a masterpiece.

I've definitely had the cries and breakdowns that Diane had at the beginning. I don't think we've seen snake people before this season, it's good to see. Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter don't seem to be doing that great at actually divorcing, at separating their lives. Hanoiwoo studios, that's good. Now it makes sense, why they were so close, good framing of the story. Off to S5E03.

Watched the first two episodes of s5. I already feel anxious and uncomfortable with what might be coming...such a heavy show.

Non-spoiler take on the season:
Probably the funniest season on the surface, but still lacks the impact and character moments from previous seasons. I'd put it above 1 and around 4, even if 4 had better single episodes.
Honestly, I gotta disagree a bit. I think 6 is stronger for what it attempts (and succeeds) to do, whereas 11 is another one of what you think it is, but slightly less impactful than it has been before.
I think episode 6 does accomplish what it sets out to do, but I think the end of 11 edges it out.
While I really enjoyed the eulogy, I feel like the episode was far more a cathartic episode for Bojack than the viewer. It does help drive home the fact that he will never really change and will continue to drown like the rest of his family, even if he is well aware he's drowning.

While I agree with your episode six opinion generally, I just think the "Bojack goes on a drug trip and things go south" has been done better before, you could see where it was going to go before it happened, and it was too easy to call that he was going to get off of doing it later on, given the whole #MeToo aspect the season's chasing. Maybe I'm just more bitter towards the character at this point and that's turning me on episode 11, but if others hadn't stepped in and literally pulled him off of Gina, he would have killed someone with his own fucking hands. Rehab can't bring you back from that.

Just like he claimed this season about what happened with Penny in season 2, "nothing actually happened". He didn't go all the way. Both times people intervened to stop him from himself. He is still everything that's wrong with him. It's not that I don't know if there is an up for Bojack, it's that I don't know if he deserves it.

(Also all the heaven imagery in episode 11 amounted to a caricature of Bojack on a poorly-drawn background so even he knows he's not getting in there, at least not as Bojack Horseman.)

Wow.

Holy shit that monologue from Butterscotch Horseman
Heh. Also yeah, that bluegrass theme is so good. Man.

At this point he doesn't deserve forgiveness since he's faltered and failed so many times while pushing the blame elsewhere. I agree with you on Bojack and a lack of sympathy for him.

As for the episode as a whole, playing up the concept that his whole life is a play and that he's just a character acting out a role plays more into who Bojack is, how he tries to insulate himself from all the horrible things he does, and less about the drugs itself. He even replaced characters from his life with stand-ins.

I will say the one thing I really liked too was the similar feeling of the song to the movie All That Jazz.

Hey is this a good show? I haven't seen much of it apart from some 30 second clips here and there but I keep hearing it's the best?

I couldn't even imagine what a truly sober Bojack will be. Maybe it'll be the most broken version of him yet, when everything he's done is truly clear.

God I love this miserable show.

It's honestly the best show on TV right now. To be fair, it takes almost half of the first season to get there, but once it grabs you, it really grabs you. For my money it's the best character study on TV in a very long time.

3 to 4 has the biggest jump in quality all season. I enjoyed 3 a little more on my second viewing, but outside of a few moments Todd's stories just didn't do much for me at all :/

Todd's story didn't do it for me at all in that episode, seems to be more slapstick than anything else.

It is good to see many faces that I recognize from the GB thread, feels like home.

Will Arnett needs an Emmy nomination for Episode 6.

This might be my favorite role he's ever done AND I KNOW THAT'S SAYING A LOT.

Just finished Ep 6

Man, that was a great episode. I could listen to hours of Will Arnett riffing as BoJack. I wasn't ready for that ending though and thought it was superbly done, this stupid gag at the end of what was trying to be a heartfelt episode. It was perfect and had me feeling the same feeling as the end of the "Fish Out Of Water" episode.

Episode 6 is probably the best voice acting I've ever heard. It's a better performance than any Emmy nominated ones this year.

I had another thought about this episode. I can absolutely empathize and relate to Diane, the pain of being alone again, of losing a relationship. Thankfully it was an LDR, so I didn't have to see him being affectionate with his new boyfriend, still, that relationship was not the best, crashed and burned due to lying, lack of understanding of struggles and challenges, and him just doing what was easy.

Fries are ready, time to watch episode 4. Going to watch to at least episode 6 tonight, can tell it will be a lot, just for how much I see others posting about it.

Once again, as I said after last season, the show needs to end soon. This is the best time to do it.
Since Bojack is in rehab he can sober up and come to terms with his actions and everyone he's ever hurt. There is no clear way to end it in my mind, but it needs to happen. Wrap it up, guys.

Just make sure you pee or do whatever you need to do before getting into 6. Make sure you absorb it in one go.

Thoughts on some of the character arcs

Todd
I'm kinda getting tired of them making Todd's sexuality the sole focal point of his character, especially with this season they showed Todd's inability to compromise for a relationship, I liked it better when his story arc was about trying to be assertive, independent, and successful but they turned that into a joke with him always losing everything in the end and starting back to square one
Bojack
I wasn't a fan of where they went with him this season, after Sarah Lynn and season 4 I thought he would have been already way past the point of another drug trip, and I also didn't like how the show was basically stating that they've been normalizing bojacks asshole behavior, the show always portrayed bojack as that guy you don't want to be

It'd be a good three act structure between all the different seasons for the character arcs. I feel like they're all close to a good emotional ending point.

Much better than episode 3. Mr. Peanutbutter can't seem to catch a break with being bad, Penny stuff is coming back. I found this episode fairly topical, made some good points, a good commentary on society.

Episode 6 was the tour de force so far but 5 did actually hit me harder. I just told someone I love last night "I don't know any other way to be", and watching PC in that episode I felt seen, in a way that I'm not used to

Enjoyed this episode, good to know more about Princess Carolyn's childhood, she can definitely get focused on one thing to the exclusion of everything else. I appreciate the callbacks/continuity, learning the true origins of the necklace.

My favorite Netflix show and possibly one of the best shows of all time in my opinion.

Due note you have to enjoy its humor from the getgo, but it's a wild ride from the end of season 1 out. It brings topics to the table we as a society try to avoid, its has you as a viewer feel vulnerable and makes you re-evaluate a lot of things in your life.
Oh and in the newest season there is a sex robot, what wacky adventures will we see next?

For the last several seasons, I've raised my expectations extremely high, and every time it has exceeded them. This season is no exception.

Also, PFT (AKA Mr. Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread) remains a national treasure.

Finished Episode 6

Reminds me a lot of my relationship with my parents. We aren't on the best of terms, they do care for me, they want me to be happy, but they don't understand. I'm in an LDR, they only really see the sadness, they can't see the happiness. I know they've advocated for me lots, I don't know if they've ever really seen me either. They did fight, fairly badly while I was growing up at times, I'd always hide in my room whenever they fought, would curl up, hoping that they'd not divorce. Those fights were rare, they did leave emotional scars. I'm guarded, I don't like showing emotion. I'm fairly anxious most of the time, needing to convince parents that everything is all right.

Made me think about how I see my parents, what I'd say at their funeral. Where I want my life to go, what does happiness look like for me.
