Era movie news threads have recently have become non-stop circles of posters reacting to The Sun and Daily Mail articles - which sprinkle in obvious truths (like Bond producers obviously going with the other Wade/Purvis angle since that was the other script in contention with Boyle's vision) before adding juicy click bait bullshit out of their ass like Socialist Bond and Boyle wanting Bond dead etc with no source whatsoever.

I feel like this train wreck is going to be dragged out for so long that Craig will eventually bail and they'll just have to reboot anyway.

I sort of liked the idea of killing Bond in 25. It'd finally confirm the theory that 007 was a number and not a person.

Wait what? Where is the socialist bond stuff coming from?

Why is Jonathan Pryce talking about this? He's already been a past bond villain, what's he got to do with the new one?

God what is happening with this movie. Just make. Or don't... I don't even care. It's been nothing but weird-bad news lately.

Wonder how Craig feels about Boyle leaving. I know he's getting paid hand over fist but you'd think he was looking forward to potentially ending his Bond tenure on a high note.

Why has the entire Craig run been plagued by horrible behind the scenes delays and problems? They still can't get their shit together after a decade.

Why would Johnathan Pryce know anything about this?
Is it like how they share the President's Daily Brief with ex-presidents? Ex-Bond villains are kept in the loop?

the rehiring of experienced Bond writers Purvis and Wade – who have worked on every Bond film since 1999's The World Is Not Enough – was almost inevitable.

How the fuck have these 2 co wrote the Bonds films since World? And are these the guys who fucked up Spectre and Quantum?

Bond hasn't been worth a shit for 10 years. Casino Royale was a neat tonal shift, Quantum was garbage, Skyfall was very pretty garbage, and Spectre was LOL

And frankly there's not a lot of the older movies I would look back on and think "yeah this still has value and isn't grossly misogynistic."

Yup. The Craig era started in the stratosphere and crashed back to Earth with Quantum, and the following two were subpar at best.

I'm a Bond fan from childhood but part of being a Bond fan is acknowledging that about 85% of the series is awful, and best enjoyed as dated schlock much of the time. See also: Godzilla fandom.

The Daily Mails "unnamed source" huh?

Gonna go ahead and assume it's complete bullshit. Especially with the anti-authoritarian slant throughout Craigs previous couple of bond films.

Unless by socialist they actually mean anti-Russian but don't wanna actually say it.

There's really going to be 7+ years between movies with the same actor? Lmao. That's almost as long as Connery's entire run.

Broccoli was invented???

that's a great story thanks for sharing.

LOL I know. I always noticed the name in the credits of Bond film intros. Like "that's a wild name, bet people teased him about it!" Never realizing that it's a family invention and one less than 100 years old at that! Amazing.

Reminds me of when I found out that corn as we know it today is a relatively recent man-made selective product, resulting from a religious rite where they would select for a certain flowering or whatever, that eventually made edible corn lol. Or how potatoes were thought of as garbage and not even eaten by French peasants until some rich dude scientist fanboy of potatoes waged a PR campaign that made them one of the most widely consumed foods in Europe from peasants to palaces. Or how Lobster was once literally trash food forced on prisoners and thought too horrible to sell. Food stories fascinate me.

Cool. So more boring, meandering Bond. Can't stand anything after Casino Royale.

Yep. Casino Royale was so fucking good. Everything since has been trash. Even if I don't like a movie, I can usually see why others do. Skyfall is the rare exception where I am just like "what the fuck do people see here that I am missing!?"

I got that same feeling with both Skyfall and Spectre. I think it's also Sam Mendes' directing that puts me thoroughly to sleep as well.

What happened to their idea to kill Bond off? Because if getting that crap axed means getting Purvis and Wade back, that's a compromise I'm more than willing to accept.

It's not. I'd say they're on the same level. Both of them are incredibly good!
Skyfall = Quantum >= Casino > Spectre

Casino > > > Skyfall > Quantum > Specter

Skyfall though made the cancerous decision to reintroduce Q, moneypeeny, and general 'cheese' back into the series and was overly long and kind of boring.

Purvis and Wade are not hacks. Do not forget those blokes wrote GOLDENEYE, CASINO ROYALE and SKYFALL too.

So quick to throw the writers under the bus. There are so many other things that could account for their lack of consistency.

They didn't write Goldeneye. Says right in the OP... they started with The World is Not Enough

Let me join the "why does anyone like Skyfall" club

I don't even have the home alone meme-y problem with it. I just found it incredibly lacking and such a waste of a decent concept. Bond "dies" and all you do with it is that he just shows back up as soon as plot happens? What was the point of even having that story element then?
