Cranky is the original DK, and the modern DK is said to be his grandson. So we haven't seen Jr. for a long time.
I like that a good 50% of us basically got caught out by the equivalent of "you didn't read the fine print", absolute shady tactics by BGBW.

I don't know about this whole business of echoes vs semi clones vs full newcomers....it doesn't matter to me anymore. Just don't be suprised if Isabelle is an exception.

Basically. I don't know what they'd do exactly, but my issue with Impa being an echo is it would leave her as a standard ninja type, and less like what we've seen of Sheikah post-OoT (which had almost nothing, just the smoke bomb).
I maintain that Peppy and Slippy would be excellent, worthy Fox semi-clones. It would be great to have the entire Star Fox team together.

The "Echo" moniker in game is a branding thing. Aside from CSS selection options I don't think the game cares. Although there's a chance that stuff such as random select might be affected....oh no.

True, but It does mean that not every potential echo character will be forced into that role simply because they kind of work.
Although, I would've thought Dark Samus was going to be more unique had Isabelle been revealed first...
I'm personally expecting more newcomers than this, but i'd be fine with this roster and I agree with these picks (though i've been having some doubts about Skull Kid recently)

I really don't think Skull Kid is happening any more. Swap him out and I think your prediction is fine.

I'm pretty sure that he threw it out to keep himself relevant in spoiler scenes.
No, He leaked Simon so Simon don't counted toward to 6 characters. I don't think he counted Isabelle since they thought she was an echo fighter. Also it's plausible that 6 characters was just a leak that DasVergeben trying to keep himself relevant in smash spoilers. We will never know.
Here's hoping Isabelle isn't the only newcomer that's derivative of another character, Dixie Kong, Shadow or Akuma would all be pretty exciting.

At this point i would swap out Geno and Skull Kid
It's easy to fantasize about what Daisy and Dark Samus would be like if they were given the Isabelle treatment, but at the same time you have to recognize that they wouldn't be playable at all if they weren't echo fighters. Isabelle exists on a completely separate plane from those characters.
I'd be totally fine with Donkey Kong getting Fire Emblem-level representation. Donkey Kong Jr w/ a Stanley assist in his Final Smash is secretly one of my most wanted characters.
Would be amazing, if we get Heihachi in there it would be just about perfect.

I don't feel like there's anyone iconic left who's going to get people to splash the cash. Except the diehard smash fans who will pay for everything. Also I think for Disney, Bethesda and Microsoft, it makes more sense for them to demand a share of the DLC price.

I would add Toadette into the Toads, I would also tack on Ashley and (King) Boo, and I probably would cut off the Star Fox members, though I see your point in adding them.
I'd be fine with Slippy if they play up the mechanic angle from his spin-off, but I'd rather not have Peppy (though I guess if you have the other 3, may as well, as long as Wolf doesn't get the boot :P).
I don't see any reason to swap out Geno; he's the most likely Square Enix newcomer (which is definitely happening if you believe Imran and Vergeben).

This is basically my roster, the only one missing is Dante.
Sure, DK Jr, Dixie, Funky, and Cranky all would be great from a moveset and history angle

wait, late August? Was Smash Direct happened on August 8th?
Because he has the lowest appeal on a broader scale and doesnt really line up with well... nearly all the cast besides Daisy. Neither party gets anything out of Geno and SE leans closer to the marketing side of character choices
