Great presentation and a ton of variety. I think what's putting a damper on it is some of the Nintendo Network details that are coming to the surface that don't make it look as good as it could be.

For me, it was an A. The two things I wanted were animal crossing switch and isabelle in smash. This is my favorite nintendo direct in ages, but i can see why non-AC fans didn't like it

Good Direct except for the online stuff.
B from me.

Liked pretty much every announcement.

Best direct in the year to me. Except for the online stuff, the rest was quite good and the pacing was great. I would give it a 8.

It was a pretty good direct overall. Only part that brought it down was the atrocious online service part

Where's the option on the poll for "if literally all you have is a fifteen-year-old logo next to a number, then don't announce anything at all?"

Solid C+. Nothing special for a direct. The two big first party announcements showed basically nothing but they were good announcements. Third party stuff was solid, as well.

Online was bad but almost every Switch game was something I'm gonna get so it was a pretty stellar Direct

It was a mediocre direct, I mean;
  • Luigi Mansion 3 and Town look cool but they are 2019 titles as is Yoshi's Crafted World,
  • I don't care for Animal Crossing or Isabelle, who looks to be another echo fighter or clone, in Smash, it would have been nice to know what the mysterious mode is or at least the single player content and another announcement of a smash character who isn't a echo/clone.
  • The rip off on-line service was a joke and not something I plan to sign up for,
  • Final Fantasy game releasing on the Switch is cool buuuut they have been released on other consoles before and one is a fucking mobile game,
  • More re-releases/ports of older titles, while cool aren't really exciting,
  • Patch notes should not be part of a direct as they could have easily been cut out and showed separately and the Splatoon 2 one was just ridiculous, went on far too long and and told me nothing,
Honestly it feels like that Nintendo had nothing worthy to show and I am left waiting again for the next direct to just get a glimpse of a title that looks interesting but won't be releasing till a year later, something that they have been doing a lot.

My only complaint would be the online stuff, which continues to be extremely underwhelming.

Other than that, it was their best in ages. The fact that they started and ended with two first-party announcements that I had anticipated for years is awesome by itself, but I'm genuinely surprised by how much cool stuff they crammed into those 30 minutes.

This is actually the formula I'd like them to use for every Direct: start with big new announcement -> show a mixture or new info on known titles and cool smaller announcements -> end with big new announcement.

I thought it was one of the best only because of the dedication publishers are starting to show for the system. Lots of third party stuff some exclusive and such. There was plenty of stuff I'm not interested in but it got me excited about how support for it is super strong.

It was awesome. A shit ton of good things : Civ 6, Katamari, a shit ton of Final Fantasy, the Capcom beat em up collection, other third party stuff I forget...
And first party wise, wtf. People said we were too optimistic expecting something else than NSMBU deluxe lmao....
Luigi's Mansion 3, new IP from Game Freak and Animal Crossing. All coming in 2019.
Shame it didn't had any footages for Animal Crossing, we'll have to wait until january it looks like. Also I wanted a little bit more of Smash, but hey, we still have at least one Smash Direct so that's good.
I give it a A. A A for YeehA. And for A fuckin christmas.

Best direct since E3 2017.

I can't think of a better Nintendo Direct since the format started. The closest would be the emergency Wii U Direct in January, 2013. Thing is, unlike that showing, most (if not all) games in this Direct will launch within one year.

Not really too much I'm interested in myself. It wasn't a hype direct, but an info dump one (which is fine).

I dunno if the 167 people that voted this as "one of the best" were being snarky or genuinely thought that but I wish my bosses were like you guys. :P

The number of shitposts today feels like its almost E3. Nintendo must have really hit it out of the park yesterday.

Where's the option on the poll for "if literally all you have is a fifteen-year-old logo next to a number, then don't announce anything at all?"

You're kinda missing the point with these title screen announcements. They have all been done very strategically, because if they don't do them they would just end up pissing off their fanbase. If they had only announced Isabelle for Smash without confirming Animal Crossing 2019 there would have been a lot of heartbroken AC fans. Go look at /r/animalcrossing right now. It's a freaking celebration in there. Go read how people went from legitimately upset to elated when they saw them confirm a new mainline game. That was the whole point of announcing it that way.

Looking back all their "title screen" announcements have fallen under similar circumstances.

Mainline Pokemon Game announced at E3 2017 as massive damage control for the Direct that announced Pokken DX and USUM because for some reason Switch owners at the time were seething about the lack of a Pokemon game confirmation.

Metroid Prime 4 announced during the E3 Direct because they also wanted to announce Samus Returns on 3DS. It was completely done to warm people up to SR and get them to be more accepting of it.

Bayonetta 3 announced at the game awards because they wanted to surprise announce the Bayo 1 +2 ports in a time where people were being overly critical about WiiU ports. The whole trilogy on Switch makes for a better announcement and people were generally more receptive to that news.

This is way better than just having Federation Force or Animal Crossing Amiibo festival dumped on you with no hope or sign of a proper sequel to either game series.

I placed it as a C. I mean it was good in terms of breadth and variety of content, but nothing really excited me personally. LM3 looked ok, but it's not what I wanted out of the next step for the franchise, and IIdont really care about Animal Crossing much. The system continues to be really lacking when it comes to exclusives in comparison to previous Nintendo handhelds. I expected mostly port or remaster support from the West, but I was expecting the usual Japanese exclusive support that we are accustomed to. That hasn't really materialized though outside of Octopath.

C (or a 7 I guess), solid overall, but man I need a Bayonetta trailer already.

I'd say it's probably their best direct/digital event since 2014 (although the bar hasn't been set very high in recent years).

3 big new games from Nintendo/Game Freak, some decent ports and some more footage of known games (albeit not high tier).

I'd give it a C (even though it's the best in recent memory).

It automatically gets knocked from A to B by not having an Endless Ocean 3 announcement (the same will be true for all future Direct's)...and drops from a B to a C for still having nothing to show of MP4, Bayo 3, Retro's game and nothing major from 3rd parties (outside of late ports).

meh, mostly updated on old games and ports, disappointing but not the worst.

Nintendo need to surprise people with new IPs as well.

gave it an a - one of the best nintendo directs.

1. it announced three new games for the first time from nintendo themselves, and they're all presumably a year away at most (luigi's mansion 3 might be october for spoopy reasons). one of these is going to be a 10m+ seller.

2. just a shitload of ports. i mean more ports than i can think of off the top of my head. i'm down for civ vi and cities skylines, and i'm interested in ffxii and maybe, maybe ffix again (it's been 16 years but i'm only kinda-sorta nostalgic).

3. most importantly, and this is an expansion on point #2, but snes-era nintendo support is back. if nothing else, it signals that the switch is a return to form, with support coming from all over - whether it's western devs making stuff like diablo, cities, civilization vi, the symbolism of the psx and ps2 final fantasy rpgs coming to the platform, in addition to the library the system has already built up. i felt that in 2018 there was quite a lot of stuff on switch that i was going to be spending time with, but i have a feeling that in 2019 i could make it my only console and still not play everything i want to get my hands on.

really the only downside was the online plan, but there isn't anything about how they revealed information we already knew that came about as unfortunate.

That's a solid B. Nothing shocking, but a good continuation of the trend of every random game you can think of slowly making its way to Switch, while Nintendo keeps pumping out their key franchises.

B- but it would have been a B+ if it hand't been delayed.

The NSO stuff was shitty and didn't make me any more interested in the service, but the announcements themselves were pretty strong overall. If this had aired on the 6th, with a week less time to speculate and hype, it would have been much better received. Obviously it was out of Nintendo's control, but having things like the Megaman 11 demo, Civ VI, and some of the Final Fantasy stuff that was announced with the Playstation event, be surprises would have made a big difference. I was glad the 3DS stuff went very quickly

Luigi's Mansion 3 and Animal Crossing Switch reveals, good Smash reveal, re-reveal of Yoshi's Crafted World, lots of updates for upcoming/already released games, and some pleasant 3rd party surprises (Katamari, Final Fantasy). Very solid direct overall. The main issue was the online section was just a repeat of everything we already knew and only served to remind us how much Nintendo's online sucks.

Thought it was great. Lots of fantastic games are coming to Switch, and here are already too many great games and not enough time to play them. I don't know how people can play everything on Switch let alone other consoles. My only complaint with the direct is I don't give a shit about online so that part is a wash for me. Waste of a few minutes. Seems others on era don't like the online service features and price, but it was never even on the radar for me so whatever. 20 dollars seems cheap as shit for unlimited cloud saves though, cheaper than a big sd card. Throw in the nes games and if you are a person that cares about nes games then it seems like a great deal. But again, I don't care and won't be buying it.

Civ6 and ff12 are great games. Katamari Damacy is a fantastic game. Hearing that song brought back great memories and put a smile on my face. Star Link looks dope. I mean... I'm not really into smash or Luigi's mansion or animal crossing and I still thought there was plenty of great games.

I wanna see retro and Metroid , that's the biggest thing to disappoint me.

People who think it's bad either don't like the switch or play way too many games. Or just like to complain. Imo of course.

I thought it was a bit disappointing other than Animal Crossing. I gave it a C though to credit that although I wasn't interested in it, there was in fact other stuff. I also don't think those other stuff were anything terrible interesting or noteworthy.

A+ for me.

Directs really just depend on what they sell me on. And boy this is the first one that got me interested in more then 1-2 games.

I'm buying all the Final Fantasies. (Except World of)
Luigi Mansion 3
Isabelle for Smash
Yoshi looks much better and actually considering it
Deamon X Machina online Co-op
Yup. Good direct. If I care about online services I would've dropped it down a big notch. That was a very poor showing on their part. All the time to present it and they failed, don't think it will effect them much since the price is so low, it's basically a big "eh, whatever". If it was much higher, they would catch so much more heat for it.
