I think the XR will ultimately go down like the 5C did.

If I wanted to save money I would buy last year's iPhone X rather than the XR.

That said, I think it's dumb that people claim the XR will be a "badge of shame". Once there's a case on it nobody but a few tech dorks will be able to tell what model you have.

The Xr has a different camera on the back vs the X/Xs. It'll be rather obvious to anyone who cares.

Never once have I looked at a person and thought to myself "poor as fuck 5c user". You have to be on some ultra petty material shit to think like that. I think the Xr phones look sharp and I like the color choices. I wish I had nearly as many choices when I purchased my X last year.

My 6 is really starting to struggle so I probably need a new phone and I'm an iPhone lifer. The features the XR is "missing" compared to the XS don't matter at all to me, so I'll probably cop an XR as cheaper.

But the XR isn't really what I want. I want a smaller screen, Touch ID, and a headphone jack. Alas, I can't even really get those from an older model, and it doesn't look like there's any reason to think next year will put them on offer either.

I love it but the screen is just a huge killer to me. I have a Note 9 right now, I can't get a worse screen than my wife's 8 Plus. It sucks because I love everything else about it, I'd even settle for the none dual camera which I never thought would be the case.

In the end I ordered an iPhone X yesterday, got an amazing deal and besides the chip I think it's the right choice. The speed improvements might be vast but the A11 Bionic is already ahead of all 2018 phones so I don't think it will be a big deal.

I think it' a good call. You can use the X for at least three years. iOS 12 is also really good.

What's wrong with the note 9?

I've seen a lot of negativity here and across the Internet about the Xr. I understand that other companies offer better displays for much less, but to me it's a good value proposition. Same chip as the Xs, same RAM, same main camera sensor, bigger screen than the Xs (yes, at a lower resolution). $250 less at the base model.

As someone that uses their phone for texting, podcasts, this forum and Twitter I don't feel the need for an OLED so this seems like a good choice.

Like I said, I know there are better 'value' phones on the Android side - but I prefer iOS and this phone will be supported for a long time to come.

Plus, that yellow color..
Wouldnt going to an older model be an option then? Those uses cases don't really tax the SoC.

Exactly, the fact that iOS 12 style upgrades which focus on maintaining or improving performance for older phones weighed into the decision too. My last iPhone was a 7 Plus and even on iOS 11 I had absolutely no problems with it. The iPhone X in 2-3 years will still be a great phone.

Buying the XR.

Coming from a S8. After 8 years of androids, I grew tired, and the S8 has become a slow POS after 1 1/2 years.

The iPhone 8 screen seems good enough to me so, resolution is not an issue, everything else looks good.

Most importantly the processor will probably even be able to compete with the Galaxy S11 and Note 11 so it's future proof. (compared to any android cpu ever)

I mean the iPhone is a status symbol and has been for a while. Even with a case it'll be clear you have an Xr and not an Xs or X.
You are not help any of the arguments made in that thread thread about people spending a lot on phones. It's actually upsetting. Most people buy the new phone because they want it, not to impress you or others.

Nothing really, I love the hardware. The display is great and android is much better than it used to be. I think the camera isn't great but I can't put my finger on why.

I'm switching back because I need continuity for my work and I miss my Apple Watch. I could live without continuity but I really really miss the Watch Haha. I'm too invested in the Apple ecosystem, I've been happy to try the Note 9 and would recommend it to anybody not invested in Apple.

If this phone was $500, then I would say it was worth it but seven hundred and fifty fucking dollars?! Nah.

I'm honestly more interested to see what prices for the X look like in two months - assuming the benchmarks for the newer models don't blow it out of the water.

@peppermints MKBHD pointed out in his video that the bezel on the yellow model looked really off, unfortunately, because I would also have preferred something as bright as that. The glass cover also mutes most colours to the point where they look like faded pastels.

The resolution/DPI and size are probably the biggest turn-offs for me.

I agree and will probably be doing the same. If the benchmarks don't show a massive leap I'll just grab a discounted X.

All of the 4 major carriers and major retailers have discounted the X down to $899 already. I imagined that will drop even lower as they try to eliminate the remaining stock they have left. Personally I think that would be a better buy than the Xr.

I feel like the problem with the Xr is not that it's using an LCD, but that the display resolution is insultingly low for a phone that price. That and the large bezels make it look extremely cheap, especially next to the Xs/Max, even when the price tag is anything but. If I was in the market for an iPhone, I'd look at the X(while it's still in stock) or even the 8+ before I look at the Xr.

Did you have an unlocked or carrier version of the S8? Did you ever do a factory reset, especially after major Android updates? It's always bizarre to when people complain about their Samsung phones slowing down. I had an S7 Edge (Exynos version) and that NEVER happened at any point during my 1 1/2 years of usage. My S9+ is butter smooth and I've owned for 6 months (internal storage 54% full, haven't restarted in a month). My sister's and friends S8's haven't slowed down and I don't even think they use any of the device maintenance tools that often, which do help. So I feel it comes down to certain apps or maybe too full of storage/slow SD card? This seems to happen with the same people too.

Regarding the processor, that doesn't even matter anymore unless you are planing to do extremely CPU intensive tasks like video editing (I'm assuming you're not). The more noticeable performance benefits will come from more RAM and more importantly, improved software. You see the performance gains from iOS 12? That's what mattered more than anything. That's why you will have iPhone 7's still running very smooth for example. I'm going update my mom's Air 2 to iOS 12 and confirm myself. I think that was one of the most future proof Apple devices to come out.

It's a phone, I doubt most people could even tell the difference.
I could, and that's all that matters when the question is whether I would buy it.

But even then. People that say they can't tell either need to get (better) glasses, or they're just not looking or lying. At over 6" you should definitely be able to see the difference.

Its monstrous size
Poor resolution
Lack of dual lens
Lack of 3D touch

...I can't fathom why anyone would think this is a good purchase but to each their own. I just bought an X yesterday which was discounted by $100 at ATT yesterday.

I am on a 7+ - but I'm at a point in my life where I feel comfortable financially upgrading every two years. Sure, it's a 'nice to have' but I enjoy treating myself every once in a while to the newest thing.

I'll wait until early next year probably and then take a look at what people are saying and what's being offered at what price. I thought it was a no brainer to get an iPhone X over the Xr but I'm starting to doubt myself. I have an SE currently so the PPI on the Xr is the same. It'd be a big size change though.

The Xr to me is a badge of shame, like the 5c. It implies I can't afford the actual flagship device and I'm not here for that.

Man I loved my 5C, that thing felt so much better in hand and was so much more durable than any other iPhone. In the end mine broke because someone threw it out of a moving car, but even with the screen half popped off it still worked for a year.

if i were to get an iphone x variation it would be either xr or xs max.
f the regular xs when you pay 100 and get a larger screen that you will be using for years to comes. as for xr, if you really want to save money and only care for being on ios, then certaintly the xr is a good lower price point to get into.

thats what i would recommend for ppl or elderly to get since ios is a bit easier to use than andriod for elderly.

Yup two resets, one after updating to Oreo.

It's just not the same than the first 6 months or so.

And don't get me started on battery.

The prcoessor is also still important for battery life. But yeah you're right it's also the software. Actually I think it's the combination of it all what makes the iPhone a better performer and a phone with longevity (and resale value)

But I'm also just bored by Android and need something "new", the Xr, apart from screen resolution has surprised me pleasantly.

Me. I don't really think I need the camera and the display. In fact, when I went to Apple yesterday and compared the X's display with the 8's (about the same from the Xs to the Xr) I couldn't really tell a difference. So yeah, I'm saving that $250.

Lol, I think iOS is going to leave you bored.

I'm interested in what the battery life tests are going to show for iPhone XR on GSMArena. In theory it's going to give god-tier battery life for iPhone standards. I say this because of the relative big battery for a 6.1 inch screen and efficiency gains from the A12. That was main benefit rather than big performance gains. It's not like it was needed for the CPU. Apple's LCD screens are more battery efficient than their OLEDs.

Yes, I know that image is bullshit, but the general idea holds. Sure, maybe the general public could tell a difference, but with such a small screen, I doubt it'll matter to most people.

Anyone going on forums and talking shit about resolution is not the target audience for this phone.

I don't understand why so many people can't understand that average consumers don't give a shit about this kind of stuff.
