So, from what I've read, I'd better use my VPN to watch Boys & Girl in the City because the japanese soundtrack is better? (and I enjoyed the songs in Next Door... it almost made me listen to more Taylor Swift but then I remembered she's not on Spotify).

Yeah why not. Lots of songs by Japanese artists I like were used so it's a good way to discover new stuff.

B&GITC episodes 1 & 2.
Not really feeling it for now... And Tatsuya is the very first housemate that I actively dislike. Gonna keep watching, I hope it'll be good enough to make me enter binge mode again.

I don't know how to feel about this situation. Of course it's great that TH doesn't have a problem with a LGBT person, given that this is Japan, but if all the other guys are super straight, isn't this going to end in a sad way for him?

Hopefully they just follow him going to a gay club or something and allow a guy he's interested in to be on the show. Or maybe he'll fall for one of the girls.... who know. It'll be interesting to see how they handle it.

I don't see much difference with the members that had relationships when they entered the house. Hansan wasn't there to date, neither was Frankie, and both were just fine.

Yusuke was a sadsack and I felt bad for Lauren who was really trying to just be a nice friend.

Aloha State was such garbage.

Sure, if you're not looking for love it's fine (although that was the main reason I wasn't a fan of Hansan), but I feel like it's one of the reasons the new person joined. If the men are out of the picture by default, the plan of finding oneself doesn't sound that great. Either way, it's good that TH is trying to be progressive and I hope it will all turn out well for the new member.

Well it's weird, I don't think I have the japanese soundtrack. The japanese opening for B&GitC is supposed to be New Romantics by Taylor Swift right? But I have the international one (Slow Down), and I don't think I've heard any japanese song so far (I'm on epsidoe 5). I'm definitely on Netflix Japan because I have access to all the japanese catalog (and I can watch Next Door on it).

edit: shit, I asked someone else to check and apparently they really replaced the original B&GitC with the international version on Netflix Japan :(
Bummer :/

It still surprises me how direct the guys can be when talking to each other since they know eventually the girls will see the episodes.

I'm actually surprised that it's almost never a "plot device". I can only think of Next Door where the members watching the show led to something.

Also there's enough time for them to defuse any potential drama 99% of the time.

I loved how they used that in Next Door, along with making the group viewings themselves super dramatic. It's a real shame they're not doing it anymore.

B&G In the City, episode 21, the first few days after Natsumi arrived... well, it's the first time I've felt so stressed watching the show ><
And I've heard there's a big meat incident (?) coming soon so it won't get better for a while.
I've warmed up to the cast (I didn't like Tatsuya at first but it got better), Arman is a nice dude, Arisa is charming but she's working non-stop. And Locomart is still offering work for TH bums.

Only downside for me is that I have to watch the international version, since Netflix Japan removed the original from their catalog. I feel like it should be bigger news, that there's absolutely no way to watch the true ITC japanese version anymore, but no one seems to care, even on the Terrace House subreddit :( But I guess there's just nothing that can be done.

As expected, Noah and Seina are leaving. I think I had enough of both at this point, so I'm glad that's happening.
Also, Taka is finally leaving as well. Until now, he had is ups and downs, but damn, that scene where he was telling Aya about that other girl is in love with. Painful to watch. He just kept going, and going, ugh. The panel felt the same way, everyone just kept telling him to stop, lol. Aya was 100% right - if he had that girl who he was in love with for so long, why do the presents and stuff. I think he just enjoyed attention of a young, cute girl. Kind of pathetic, really. I know he explained to Seina that he hoped to fall in love with Aya, but that excuse falls apart when he jumps from "well, that didn't work out" to "I love the other girl so much I want to marry her" almost instantly. Really glad he's going to be gone soon.
Shunske seems to be really chill and a good listener, I like him.

Natsumi is kind of the worst BUT I like her because she brings energy to the house. Everyone else is so sedate and passive. She definitely has some exciting interactions during her time there.

Hey, I like her as a cast member and for making things more interesting, but I would lose my mind living with someone like that. Part of me hates seeing how mean she can be, but I totally relate to her inability or lack of fucks when it comes to putting up her roommates dumb problems. Still... she didn't need to call out Misaki at dinner like that!

Finally caught up (with the US releases)! But I still feel behind since everyone else seems to be further along.

I'm so glad Ami left. She was such a huge downer.

So, not sure if anyone else here uses Japanese Netflix to watch OND, but for me at least it seems that they have removed English Subtitles starting with OND 33. 32 and back have them, 33 only has Japanese. So that is quite sad.

I like Natsumi. She bought some life into the show during that lull. Everyone was too passive up to that point, it was almost getting boring.

Happens some time, give it a few days. Worst I saw was the Mob Psycho 100 drama that didn't have English subs for some of the later episodes until weeks later.

That's weird. I wonder if they did that to prevent people from outside Japan from using vpns to watch it/straight up ripping the show with subtitles. Even if that's the case, weird (and very late) timing for that.

Edit:
And mystery solved, it seems.

Good riddance to Noah and Seina on the other hand. At least they won't overstay their welcome. Also bet 1000 yen that this won't be Seina's last love at all haha

Making a 17 minute documentary about your proposal is so Taishi.

Really happy for them.

Taishi found that love worth dying for it seems.

Meanwhile, I would die for some english subs. I am very much leaning towards the line of thinking that says they removed them to counter all the piracy and uploads and re-streams that were happening. So I get it. It also sucks.

No, they did not.

They also didn't remove the Simplified Chinese, Korean, or Portuguese subtitles because piracy, either.

edit: sorry, long ass post incoming because I always post after watching 20 or 30 episodes ><
I liked her, then hated her, then liked her a lot, then she was mean again and I started to wonder what kind of person she really was. She was great and genuinely nice with Minori after they made up and it was the first time I felt the same kind of warmth in the house than I felt during Next Door. To me it seemed like she could be really nice and put the well being of others before her own to the point it started to get heavy and she snapped, creating tensions to push people away. I was sad when she left because at the end she truly seemed to have realized that something was a bit fucked in her behaviour and it made her feel bad. If she was a really terrible person, she wouldn't give a shit. So I was disappointed that she left right after this realization, I would have liked to see her more after that. And to my surprise I was actually on her side during the last house meeting with her. Misaki had gone on her date in Yokohama and she had been stressed all day, hoping it would go well for her, and she drank in the evening while waiting. Misaki came home and told Natsumi to not come close to her because she reeked of alcohol. Multiple times. Even if she just had been rejected that was a pretty shitty way to treat your friend who had been hella supportive and anxious for you.
And later during the house meeting, after Natsumi apologized and cried, aknowledging that she could have reacted better, Misaki was like "nah, she's lying, it will happen again". I thought that was pretty cold.
The only person in the house who had given the tiniest bit of shit about how Natsumi felt was Hansan, and she couldn't even go on a date with him because he already had a girlfriend. Sure Natsumi had been mean at some points but even after she changed and was supportive of others, no one really cared, they relied on her to cook and to clean. Anyone would have felt isolated. But yeah, the way she snapped at the dinner (about the loungewear) was bad, and still I think the others were a bit unfair during the last meeting.
Sometimes I also stop to think about how people like Natsumi must feel when they watch the show afterwards with the panel making jokes about them and turning them into ridicule. It's mostly in good fun but sometimes it must sting quite a bit, especially if they also receive insults on Twitter (like when Yosuke got mad about this in Next Door).
Shit, that was a long ass paragraph about Natsumi.

I'm nearly done with In the City, currently on episode 42 I think.
The panel completely jumped the shark at the start of episode 40, I could barely believe it lmao. Torui said he wanted to grab Kentaro's crotch to remind himself of his youth, "it's like I'm linked to my youth via bluetooth, but I want to experience the real thing". Yamachan "yeah like a psychometrer". Then You is like "yes just like when I want to touch Trendl's breasts." Then proceeds to put her hands on her breats. Trendl completely unfazed, as if it was a common occurence.
what the fuck xD

So, around episode 42, it's great right now but two things disturbed me:
For like 30 seconds I thought Arman was DEAD. WTF don't do this to me. He got run over by a car but for god's sake Byrnes when you announce something like that you start by saying that the person is alive but in the hospital. Fuuuuuuck
Seriously he just said "I was skating with Arman, then I heard a big noise... I turn around and Arman was on the floor, his head bleeding...."
And then he says nothing and Hayato has to ask to make sure he's not dead
COME ON :@
I was so relieved when Arman came back a few moments later. But like, he must have been careless, but he got scolded by everyone. The police officer, Misaki, the panel... Damn, cut him some slack, first be kind and supportive and LATER give him some criticism if you want. He was on the asphalt with his head bleeding, come on...

The other thing that really disturb me was Riko's photoshoot in bikini. The creepiness of this industry always irks me, so I was already grossed out by the people around her telling her to uncloth, and then she broke down and cried. And had to do another series of shoot as soon as her tears were dry. With an old dude telling her to "work hard", and that with time she'll come to like it.
GTFO

Alright, three or four episodes to go.
I didn't like it at the start and I'm still disappointed that I had to watch the international version, but the second part has been great. I actually think I started to like it when Natsumi arrived, and after the meat incident. It felt like this cast needed some drama to shine, but the whole second part has been great.
Some members were wasted though, especially in the first group (the guy who was fake playing baseball, Tap and the other girl). And later, Arisa and the ballerina had too few interactions with other housemates because they were working waaaay too much. It's kinda scary how much they work. No days off at all. I liked them both though, people didn't really notice but as time went by, Arisa started to laugh a lot. She was never laughing during her first weeks/months.... (when she was going on dates with Arman lol).

I'm waiting to see the last episodes but so far to me Arman is Tecchan 2.0.
Arman is so damn unlucky it's scary. The girls he went on dates with were either not interested, or when they were they left to focus on work. And when he likes a new one, she already has her eyes on another guy. And just when he asks a girl out, being more confident than usual, he gets run over by a car the following day. GIVE THIS MAN A BREAK, HE JUST WANTS TO BE HAPPY.

Indeed. Happy to hear that subs are back. Sadly (for me and my NA Netflix subscription) it seems like Netflix has decimated VPNs once again. My trusty service has failed me as has another that I trialed tonight. I'm moving to Japan. It's the only solution.

Agreed on the latter, but who knows. She was with Daiki for years and he was way younger than her, too. I think it's okay for Taka to leave now, excited for getting some fresh members and potential for dates.

Besides, we have Yui as the new best member now.

Liking the new guy, he's nice and seems to jive well with the others.

Taka what are you doing dude. Don't spoil your good run in the 11th hour. It is a bit awkward with the bisexual member, right? I mean what is he supposed to do if he's trying to try romance with a guy? I was thinking they might try to focus on romance outside of the house. Maybe they'll bring another big guy in or something.

Hey, I like her as a cast member and for making things more interesting, but I would lose my mind living with someone like that. Yeah that was by far her worst moment. I didn't like her before because I hate when people say they're "real" and "honest" and it's really just an excuse to be unnecessarily mean. But the dinner incident making fun of Misaki was incredibly mean and then to say that she didn't mean it that way when Misaki confronted her... Ugh.
