It was decent. I'm hoping I'll enjoy it more on my home video rewatch like I did TLJ. Something just felt off for me with Ehrenreich's Han, but I thought Glover's Lando was fantastic. I'd love to see a Lando solo movie with Glover tbh.

Honestly loved it, more than any of the other Disney SW films. Although I do recall liking R1 a lot but I hardly remember much anymore.

Solo tho just felt like a lot was happening and I enjoyed it all. Cast really helps, Woody makes for a really cool merc mentor, and L3 best bot of all time.

the twist of the big bad being a teenage girl bothers me so much

it just makes no god damn sense
I mean, whatever, Ewoks and child prodigy Anakin and other little guys beating the big ones, It's within the scope of the universe. Even if it's a bit overly precocious.

I was just annoyed by how the scene zooms in on her and the music swells like it's a big twist when all I'm feeling was "... who is this? Did we meet a girl with red hair? Ohhhh the twist is that she's a girl."

yeah thats kinda what I mean, the fact that she was a girl is supposed to be the important twist of her character

between that, and the lack of tension, it just felt very "okay" for me

I mean hey, an unimpressive but good 7/10 is better than a lot of movies that make you regret spending money on it
(although I saw 3 movies last month with my Moviepass so I saw it for free anyways, maybe that skews my opinion)

Just saw it, and to be frank, that was the best Star Wars movie I saw since Empire Strikes Back. Nothing stellar, but coherent characters and plot, some nice action scenes, nothing much cringe worthy...

I legit want to see a sequel now, but that's unlikely.

I was surprised how much I liked this considering it has one of the lower scores of the last few movies. Really good.

Put me in the "Wow that was surprisingly awesome" camp

Definitely has less flaws than TFA, Rogue One and TLJ which blows me the fuck away considering the rocky production.

The naming scene was dumb as hell, but really, that was the only real groaner moment I had. I liked how small scale the finale was, the final 'fight's' resolution was pretty top notch as well.

I can't believe so much praise is getting heaped on one of the most boring slogs of a paint-by-numbers action snoozefest I have ever seen. I guess blaster sound effects and wookiee roars are all some people need.

Holy shit how can anyone actually think this.

Every callback to "this is the origin of this thing" was mortifying. Awful, awful movie, only Episode 2 is worse in the series.

I expected it to be bad, based on what I'd seen (Lando's images, trailers, TV spots). It looked cheesy and bad. And may plan was to pass on it...wait to watch it for free.

Someone I knew wanted to go see it for their birthday, though, and invited me. They got the tickets and we all went as a group. And we all enjoyed it. It was certainly better than expected.

I surprisingly liked this. Main dude did just a passable job trying to fill an icon's shoes (Glover conveyed a much better representation of Lando comparatively), but the script had some fun set pieces, the visuals were terrific, the majority of the nods were fun, and Han's character arc was really well handled. It left me wanting a sequel, which I wasn't expecting.

Same OP, same it had bad luck coming out when it did and the marketing was bad. I loved the Chewie interactions.

I liked it FAR more than Rouge one. That's for sure, i assumed it would be a mess given the director change, but nop.

I finally got to see it a couple of days ago and, yeah, it's actually awesome. I really liked how morally flexible just about everyone was and I loved Woody Harrelson in it - he quite literally embodied "the only side I'm on is my own", screwing everyone over and backstabbing people he backstabbed someone else with two minutes ago.

Plus yeah, Han totally shot first and proved Star Wars can totally be a western in space since that's exactly what Solo was right down to the gunslinger showdown at the end.

Damn I need sequels like yesterday.

I thought it was a very entertaining yet totally inessential movie.

I'd go see Solo 2 the first weekend, but I won't be upset if Solo 2 never gets made.

I liked the new settings and characters the film introduced. They really need to cool it in killing off new characters so quickly though, it has no emotional weight. Extremely on the nose in its attempts to explain every single characteristic of Han Solo as well. That got old real fast. I have to say I couldn't buy the lead as Han, felt like a completely different character in behaviour. His arrogance did not carry the same air that Ford's does. It's a fine disposable flick which I'd never watch again and would only recommend to die hard star wars fans.

Would have rather had a movie about Bossk. Some of solo was okay. I have a tough time with how hard these movies try to appeal to old fans rather than tell a good story.

It's ok but every time they try to do some Solo origin moments, it becomes so horribly cringeworthy that it completely cancels out the good. Would prepare to roll your eyes a LOT of you are going to watch.

That naming scene. Like

I think there was less to do with the movie sucking for it's downfall, and more the backlash/sending a message to Lucasfilm... and also the general audiences were probably burning out or unaware this movie was even out

A completely acceptable and at times enjoyable film, yet mediocre in every way, the biggest issue being that Han didn't feel like Han which is kind of a huge problem. I thought Alden was likable enough and all that but he didn't feel like Han nor did that the origin feel like it made him the man we came to know in ANH and onward. Having it be an origin story was a huge mistake and really detracted from things overall.

Film should have really just be Han and Chewy as established smugglers doing their thing and getting caught up in some big thing with Lando. We did not need to see the origin of every goddamn thing. There didn't need to be significance to his blaster, to his name, to shooting first, etc.

I literally forgot he was supposed to be Han Solo multiple times throughout the movie.

If they had cast a guy as Solo who you took a look at and were like, "Man, I've GOT to see his take on the character!" it could have been a lot more successful; essentially they needed someone to do for Han Solo what Donald Glover was able to do for Lando Calrissian.

As it is, Alden Ehrenreich is just kind of there, and being the title character and everything, that hurts.
Does not compute.

Donald Glover was the worst returning character.

Waiting for this on Netflix.

The trailers looked awesome.

For those of you that saw it. Is the movie grittier than the usual SW movies (which always has lots of comedy relief)? I got the sense it was.

That's my preference too. I prefer darker blockbuster movies like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, as opposed to Avengers or THOR Ragnarok which is jokes every minute.

And I'm no SW expert. Ya, I know who Solo and Lando and Chewy are. But I just want a cool gritty sci fi movie. Don't care if he's han Solo or a dude named Bob.

This is probably as much or more a comedy than any other Star Wars, with a few very dramatic and serious moments.

Rogue One fits that bill much more.

No, it's pretty comedic. Rogue One is the "gritty one" although Solo, interestingly, has the most chaotic war scene in a Star Wars film.

I caught it on an airplane from Tokyo to LA about a week ago and don't understand the hate behind it at all. I was expecting it to be terrible, but I really enjoyed it. Was a nice adventure. I definitely agree that Han didn't feel like Han though, but I thought the movie was fun enough that I didn't mind.

I also really liked The Last Jedi, so take that for what you will.

I took it more as "Oh, she's a kid" than "Oh, she's a girl".

I enjoyed it but it just feels unnecessary.

It's basically the opening of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade stretched for 2+ hours.

I thought it was pretty great. It had some weak moments, but it was still a fun movie featuring characters I really like so I was quite happy. I'd put it just under Rogue One but that's only because I enjoyed Rogue One so much.

I just felt like, this film had the type of atmosphere, character types and through-line. It really made me want a more gritty, under-belly type scfi-space thriller. That didn't rely so much on the rebellion-lite vs the galactic empire-lite once again.

An this is not to say that the light-side vs dark-side stuff (so much still un-explored, now ret-conned) is bad. But at this point, we've already paved through the foundation of the first trilogy and the prequels to there logical ends. The wheel didn't need to be recreated a second time, after so long. With the Sky-walker formula.

Personally, i think it's time to branch off into other more interesting adventures, locations, topics and more in-depth conflicts. Overall i thought different parts of this film had those elements, that peeked my interest a lot. Because we need to drive deeper into the SWU beyond the surface tension.

Its highs weren't as high as TLJ's (and it's lows weren't as low as TLJ's) but Solo was solid. The pacing was a bit weird and the "HEY REMEMBER THIS? THIS IS WHERE IT CAME FROM" moments were kinda meh but overall it told a decent story with likeable characters and felt more "Star Warsy" than the other films thus far.

but seriously what the fuck was up with that Maul reveal? I like the character as much as the rest do but it was out of place and opened a whole can of questions

Painfully average. Probably the only Star Wars movie ill never re watch. Too many sequences dragged on without any particular sense of tension or danger.
