I haven't played UC4 or ROTR yet but the first TR game alone is better than every uncharted to me. the combat was a lot better, i enjoyed the story and it felt better/more enjoyable to play. the only thing it was lacking were the setpieces of uncharted - but even those were kind of a let down because I played the UC series late and just heard so much about them. UC has more memorable moments, mainly because of those set pieces, but the overall story was just whatever to me. TR's wasn't better in terms of storytelling but it felt more impactful and interesting. Lara's characterization got flak but i enjoyed seeing her relish murdering the people that killed her friends. I enjoyed the fact that it didn't shy away from brutality; those QTEs deaths made sure you wouldn't continue to fuck up.

i really need to play ROTR and UC4. I'll forever be confused by anybody saying the combat of UC (besides 4 since they improved it a lot) is better than TR. UC's combat was kinda trash considering its pedigree.

I enjoyed both UC4 and TR2 quite a lot, but I find myself returning to TR2 more. It's just easier to pick back up for some quick fun.

I mean yeah you're right, but if you play on hard or higher it s basically back to a cover shooter because of balance issues. Crushing on U4 while swinging like Tarzan isn't fun. Crushing on any Uncharted out of cover isn't fun. Brutal just isn't fun.
Oh, I agree completely there, would never recommend Uncharted at the higher difficulties, especially not first time through, as it forces you to play it in the least fun way.
Brutal can just completely fuck off though, it's completely unfun.

ROTTR was my 2016 game of the year. Simply better than Uncharted 4 which while great was a disappointment to me. Uncharted The Lost Legacy on the other hand is better than both and if it wasn't for Horizon Zero Dawn, TLL would be my 2017 goty.

Basically, TLL > ROTTR > U4.

I enjoyed uncharted 4 for the most part. But it's one of the worse in its own series. I would put uncharted 2 and 3 above tomb raider and rottr. But both tr games are better than 4.

Sometimes i feel like i played an alternate dimension rotr that i absolutely despised.
and i actually liked the first one.
everything about it felt bland and boring, from the story , to the setting to the gameplay.

Love both. I actually like the gameplay of RotTR more than U4 but U4 beats it in almost every other category.

Iono to be honest modern Tomb Raider never seemed to be in the same league as Uncharted so I never took the time to play them.
Criticism of its thin plot and characters, gameplay also seeming like a xp fest/collectathon always made me fearful of investing into it.

UC4 was one of the games of this generation to me.

Uncharted 4 had more polish, but Rise of the Tomb Raider was fantastic. Both games were really good, to be honest, but Uncharted 4 didn't feel new enough to me and had far too much scripted climbing.

It's close

Hell no.

I felt that RotTR was disappointing in several areas, and a step back over the original TR2013 [which I quite liked].

I prefer most of the gameplay of Tomb Raider (2013) and RotTR to Uncharted 3 and 4. UC's characters, writing, voice acting, etc., are much, much better than the new Tomb Raiders, but I find the set pieces more interesting and the gameplay more varied in TR. I really like how TR (2013) brought you back to familiar areas but with new gear/abilities as the game progressed, which opened it up sort of like a Metroidvania which I thought was really clever.

I haven't played RoTR yet, but I definitely prefer the first TR reboot over U4. I've played through it twice and had a blast both times, but for the most part I found U4 to be fairly boring and uninteresting outside of a few sequences. So if RoTR is near the first game in quality, I'll enjoy it more than U4.

UC4 had some special moments but suffered from some bad pacing issues that kind of went on throughout the entire game. I think it's a good game but not the top tier of Drake's adventure.

Rise didn't have quite those highs but I enjoyed playing it more just because, well, there was more to play. The narrative wasn't special but I liked it more than 2013's. Overall it was a nice sequel to 2013 but it didn't push things along as far as it could have. The tombs were an improvement but still a far cry of what Lara, and Crystal Dynamics frankly, could pull off.

Yep. Way better, everything flows at a steady pace in that game. I enjoyed the puzzle segments and the "Blood Ties" dlc the most. Combat was fluid and easy to get into. The only weak point is story, but gameplay>everything. Tomb raider has better gameplay.

Tomb raider felt so hollow to me. It's an alright game and I wont say I hate it or anything, but I also didnt feel a thing when I played the game. I felt like I'm just going through the level mindlessly. The big level and collectibles where I'm mostly just going after map marker before I move on become such a routine and repetitive. And the story/character is doing a bad job in keeping me engaged and motivate me to keep going.

The first TR reboot is a bit better in that regard but the sequel is so boring I stopped playing halfway through and havent come back yet.

I like Uncharted better in just about everyway. The visual and location are more memorable, level design are also better for encouraging you to keep moving. Especially in U4 and TLL.

I played Rise earlier this year for the first time. It's a solid game, but they went way overboard with the collectables. The optional tombs added a nice element, but its all hamstrung by the dreadful story and lack of any noteworthy characters

For me it is, although I enjoy Uncharted's story and characters way more. Not only do I feel the gameplay is waaaay better, I just love the new Lara way more than I do Drake. She's so dark and batshit out of her mind, her extreme determination by any means attitude is something that really draws me to her as a character study. She's fascinating to play as.

I liked ROTR a bit better than UC4, which I bounced off of a few hours in. While UC4 looks better, has a better story, and generally more detailed, the gunplay/movement/linearity all disagree with me. I think ROTR is the perfect mesh of "open world" areas and linear storytelling.

I also like Lara Croft as a protagonist way more than Drake.

Yes it actually is better in my opinion, and by a country mile while we are at it. Uncharted 4 was a boring talkfest compared to the lates Tomb Raider.

Better than the best uncharted? Not even close, I don't even consider it better than any of the rest, couldn't finish both of the TR games.

Rise has too many collectibles and the story is one of the worst i've been through in some time. I mostly prefer the first one besides the optional tombs

RotTR is a fun video game, Uncharted 4 is what you get when people who think they should be making films but don't have any talent are set loose. It's one of the most boring "games" I've ever played.

I loved Uncharted series on PS3. Really didn't think much of both Uncharted games on PS4. I adore both Tomb Raider games. For mine the first game is better than the second but Rise is sensational! I prefer the Tomb Raider games over Uncharted series, although I do still have a soft spot for the PS3 Uncharted games... either way you can't go wrong.

RoTR had horrible story compared to any of the uncharted games (and 2013 might have been only ahead of first uncharted).
Gameplay is mediocre, went too far into open world tropes, without really offering that open world freedom. Tombs are still fun, like in 2013 game, but all the collectibles, side quests, etc. are really low quality.

I'm playing through Rise right now and from a gameplay/pacing perspective I do enjoy it more than Uncharted 4. They are pulling off that open linear design that ND experimented with in U4 and LL with a bit better results, at least so far.

The two games have different strengths and your preferences will pull you one way or the other. I don't see one categorically better than the other though. Ironically, if you melded the highs of U4 and Rise together, they would actually compliment each other quite nicely.

lol stop acting like the only talented storytellers are in the film industry. Maybe great storytellers can be found in other mediums too, like games. Crazy thought.

I loved the reboot, but absolutely hated Rise. The combat encounters are too many (uncharted has the same problem though) and most "epic moments" are just dumb.
Uncharted 4 has some over the top moments as well, but they are handled much better.

Also, the characters in Rise are uninteresting, and the voice acting is absolutely atrocious. I muted my tv for the majority of the game and listened to a podcast instead, because I could not stand Laras constant out of breath whining and panting. I really hope that they fire Camilla for future games and I might give it another try.

Uncharted 4 on the other hand is polished, exciting and has a great cast to make the whole experience better in every aspect.

Well, Uncharted 4 was pretty flaccid gameplay-wise and the pacing was horrendous, but I'd never recommend Tomb Raider over it. Tomb Raider just gives me a by the numbers AAA design feel. I get no enjoyment from it.

If Uncharted 4 had encounter design and pacing on par with Uncharted 2, it would've been something special because the presentation is pretty solid for the most part.

RoTR was really a bad game. Man I couldn't tolerate it more than 1 hour. Uncharted 4 was top notch. They are not comparable at all ...

Not even at the same level. Uncharted 4 is leagues ahead of Tomb Raider in every aspect.

RotTR was a bad game IMO. Uncharted 4 is easily in my top 5 games of all time.

Yes, absolutely. Overall I like the Uncharted series a lot(and thought Lost Legacy was fantastic) but the pacing and amount of action in Uncharted 4 was brutal. Weakest in the series IMO. I'd rank Uncharted 1 and 2 ahead of the Tomb Raider games but TR 2013 and Rise are better than Uncharted 3 and 4.

I actually felt TR2 was a step down from the original. And Lara is as compelling a lead character as that dude from that Mordor game. I enjoyed U4 way more but I guess I'm just a bigger fan of that series in general. It was a nice way to end a story.

I much prefer the new Tomb Raider games to Uncharted.

I like the bigger focus on gameplay and combat on top of the smaller hubs that have less linearity to them.

I will acknowledge though that Uncharted 4 finally nailed that aspect of those games after 4 tries at it. Just that Tomb Raider does it better.

I can't even play Uncharted, I tried the first 3. Loved Tomb Raider 2013. I think the bow is the main reason.

I bought Rise in the Xbox sale and if Uncharted 4 is available for a tenner at some point I will give that a go as well. Not got high hopes for it though from what I've read.

I finally got a chance to play RoTR last year and it was... interesting to say the least. I don't think it does anything better than Uncharted 4, except for maybe doing something else in a wide linear level. Everything else was more enjoyable in Uncharted 4.

And reading the posts here, how can anyone say the gunplay in Tomb Raider is better than Uncharted? It doesn't even feel as smooth as Uncharted 4.

As much as I love RotTR and think it does certain aspects better (RPG elements, larger scale levels, etc) Uncharted 4 is in a different league for me. It's a masterclass.

I preferred RotTR to UC4. While the presentation and story weren't as good, the gameplay was better and that's what's most important to me.
